Fluid-elastic instability and turbulence excitation for an under developing steam generator are investigated numerically. The stability ratio and the amplitude of turbulence excitation are obtained by using the PIAT (Program for Integrity Assessment of Steam Generator Tube) code from the information on the thermal-hydraulic data of the steam generator. The aspect ratio, the ratio between the height of U-tube from the upper most tube support plate (h) and the width of two vertical portion of U-tube (w), is defined for geometric parameter study. Several aspect ratios with relocation of tube support plates are adopted to study the effects on the mode shapes and characteristics of flow-induced vibration. When the aspect ratio exceeds value of 1, most of the mode shapes at low frequency are generated at the top of U-tube. It makes very high value of the stability ratio and the amplitude of turbulent excitation as well. We can consider that the local mode shape at the upper side of U-tube will develop the wear phenomena between the tube and the anti-vibration bars such as vertical, horizontal, and diagonal strips. It turns out that the aspect ratio reveals very important parameter for the design stage of the steam generator. The appropriate value of the aspect ratio should be specified and applied.

Swirl injector with multi-stage tangential entry was analyzed to suppress high-frequency combustion instability in Liquid Rocket Engines. In order to analyze the effect of swirl injector as an acoustic absorber, swirl injector was regarded as a quarter-wave resonator and it's damping capacity is verified in atmospheric temperature. It has a finite mode of vibration and natural frequencies which can be tuned to the natural frequencies of a model combustion chamber. The interior air core shape of injector is more stable in the case of using the swirl injector with multi-stage entry than with single-stage entry. Also, when the swirl injector with multi-stage entry is used, tuned-injector length for unstable mode is well agreed with the calculated length. From the experimental data, it is proved that if the interior air core shape of swirl injector is stable, the fine tuned swirl injector can decrease the unstable mode of model chamber effectively and increase the damping rate.

Fluid-elastic instability and turbulence excitation for an under developing steam generator are investigated numerically. The stability ratio and the amplitude of turbulence excitation are obtained by using the $PIAT^{(R)}$ (program for integrity assessment of steam generator tube) code from the information on the thermal-hydraulic data of the steam generator. The aspect ratio, the ratio between the height of U-tube from the upper most tube support Plate (h) and the width of two vertical portion of U-tube (w), is defined for geometric parameter study. It makes very high value of the stability ratio and the amplitude of turbulent excitation as well. We can consider that the local mode shape at the upper side of U-tube will develop the wear phenomena between the tube and the anti-nitration bars such as vortical, horizontal, and diagonal strips. It turns out that the aspect ratio reveals very important parameter for the design stage of the steam generator. The appropriate value of the aspect ratio should be specified and applied.

In this paper, we propose eigenstructure assigned sliding mode control for mismatched uncertain system. Variable structure control has the sliding mode in which the system is robust against the uncertainty and the sliding motion depends upon the sliding surface. Therefore, the surface design is one of the important problems. Also in mismatched cases, the uncertainty may affect on the sliding motion and may cause unexpected instability of the system. Thus, that should be considered, too. For robust sliding mode against the mismatched uncertainty, we suggest the design method of the sliding surface using the eigenstructure assignment, define an index as the measure of the robustness which shows the size of affordable unstructured uncertainty, and present the computation method. And also we propose the controller which can ensure the sliding mode and prove the robust stability of the proposed controller by using Lyapunov method. Finally we show the appropriateness of the proposed scheme for the mismatched uncertainty via the example.

Dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) method was applied for the further study of periodical characteristics of the unsteady shock-induced combustion. The case of Lehr's experiments was numerically simulated using 4 levels of grids. FFT result reveals that almost all the grid systems oscillate at frequencies around 430-435 kHz and the measureed one is around 425 kHz. To identify more resonant modes with low frequencies, DMD method is adopted for 4 grid systems. Several major frequencies are extracted and their damping coefficients are calculated at the same time, which is a quantification parameter for combustion stabilization.

A numerical study on combustion instabilities in a model combustor was conducted with various momentum flux ratios. Five ratios are calculated based on an actual operating condition of rocket engine. As momentum flux ratio increases, the spreading angle on the injector outlet decreases. And, as increase of axial momentum flux, pressure fluctuation decreases inside the combustor. By using dynamic mode decomposition method, the acoustic modes inside the combustor are identified. Combustion stabilities are analyzed by comparing the damping coefficient of the 2nd longitudinal mode.

This work investigates the subcritical free-shear prism wake at Re=22,000 by the Koopman analysis using the Dynamic Mode Decomposition (DMD) algorithm. The Koopman model linearized nonlinearities in the stochastic, homogeneous anisotropic turbulent wake, generating temporally orthogonal eigen tuples that carry meaningful, coherent structures. Phenomenological analysis of dominant modes revealed their physical interpretations: Mode 1 renders the mean-field dynamics, Modes 2 describes the roll-up of the Strouhal vortex, Mode 3 describes the Bloor-Gerrard vortex resulting from the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability inside shear layers, its superposition onto the Strouhal vortex, and the concurrent flow entrainment, Modes 6 and 10 describe the low-frequency shedding of turbulent separation bubbles (TSBs) and turbulence production, respectively, which contribute to the beating phenomenon in the lift time history and the flapping motion of shear layers, Modes 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9 are the relatively trivial harmonic excitations. This work demonstrates the Koopman analysis' ability to provide insights into free-shear flows. Its success in subcritical turbulence also serves as an excellent reference for applications in other nonlinear, stochastic systems.

This paper investigates the filtered velocity feedback(FVF) controller for the reduction of the acoustic power radiated from a clamped beam. The instability problem due to the non-collocated sensor/actuator configuration when using PZT actuator should be sorted out. The roll-off property of the FVF controller at high frequency helps to alleviate the instability. The dynamics of clamped beams under forces and moments pair and the FVF controller are first formulated. The formulation of the sound radiated power is followed. The open loop transfer function(OLTF) synthesized with 100 modes is used to determine the stability of the control system. The control performance is finally estimated. The levels of the vibration and the sound radiated power are reduced in the wide bandbelow the tuning mode of the FVF controller.
In this study, an analysis tool to assess the susceptibility of steam generator tubes due to the flow-induced vibration was developed. The fluid-elastic instability analysis of the U-tube bundle for CE-type steam generator was accomplished. The effective mass distribution along the U-tube was obtained to calculate the natural frequency and dynamic mode shape. Finally, stability ratios for selected tubes are obtained.

In this paper, the stability of a cracked cantilever beam subjected to follower force is presented. In addition, an analysis of the flutter instability(flutter critical follower force) of a cracked cantilever beam subjected to a follower compressive load is presented. Based on the Timoshenko beam theory. The vibration analysis on such cracked beam is conducted to identify the critical follower force for flutter instability based on the variation of the first two resonant frequencies of the beam. Besides, the effect of the crack's intensity and location on the flutter follower force is studied. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments. The crack is assumed to be in the first mode of fracture and to be always opened during the vibrations. Generally, the critical follower force for flutter is proportional to the crack depth.
