  • We present observations of $HCO^+$ 1-0 absorption lines toward two extragalactic compact radio sources, NRAO 150 and BL Lac with the Korean VLBI Network in order to investigate their time variation over 20 years by Galactic foreground clouds. It is found that the line shape of $-17kms^{-1}$ component changed marginally during 1993-1998 period and has remained unaltered thereafter for NRAO 150. Its behavior is different from that of $H_2CO$ $1_{10}-1_{11}$, suggesting chemical differentiation on ~ 20 AU scale, the smallest ever seen. On the other hand, BL Lac exhibits little temporal variation for the $HCO^+$ and $H_2CO$ lines. Our observation also suggests that Korea VLBI Network performs reliably in the spectrum mode in that the shapes of the new $HCO^+$ 1-0 spectra are in good agreement with the previous ones to an accuracy of a few percent except the time varying component toward NRAO 150.

  • The formation of adiabatic shearband in tungsten heavy alloys(WHA) was studied in this investigation. Five prismatic specimens were loaded by high velocity impacts and treated as plane strain problems. To find out the effect of particle's volume ratio, specimens containing 81%, 93% and 97% volume percents of tungsten particles were used. Also the effects of particle's geometry and size on the formation of shearband were studied for 81% volume percent alloys by small size particle model, large size particle model and undulated particle models, and the results were discussed.be used to diagnose the causes of necking and fracture in industrial practice and to investigate whether these defects were caused by material property variation, changes in lubrication, or incorrect press settings. In non-axisymmetric deep drawing, three modes of forming regimes are found: draw, stretch, plane strain. The stretch mode for non-axisymmetric deep drawing could be defined when the major and minor strains are positive. The draw mode could be defined when the major strain is positive and minor strain is negative, and plane strain mode could be defined when the major strain is positive and minor strain is zero. Through experiments the draw mode was shown on the wall and flange are one of a drawn cup, while the plane strain and the stretch mode were on the punch head and the punch corner area respectively, We observed that the punch load of elliptical deep drawing was decreased according to increase of die corner radius and the thickness deformation of minor side was more large than major side.

  • In this study, an extended Kantorovich method, employing multi-term displacement functions, is applied to analyze the vibration problem of symmetrically laminated plates with arbitrary boundary conditions. The vibration behaviors of laminated plates are determined based on the variational principle of total energy minimization and the iterative Kantorovich method. The out-of-plane displacement is represented in the form of a series of a sum of products of functions in x and y directions. With a known function in the x or y directions, the formulation for the variation of total potential energy is transformed to a set of governing equations and a set of boundary conditions. The equations and boundary conditions are then numerically solved for the natural frequency and vibration mode shape. The solutions are verified with available solutions from the literature and solutions from the Ritz and finite element analysis. In most cases, the natural frequencies compare very well with the reference solutions. The vibration mode shapes are also very well modeled using the multi-term assumed displacement function in the terms of a power series. With the method used in this study, it is possible to solve the angle-ply plate problem, where the Kantorovich method with single-term displacement function is ineffective.

  • A numerical simulation on the flow field of a valveless bidirectional piezoelectric micropump has been performed. In this type of micropump, the oscillation of the piezoelectric diaphragm generates the blowing and suction flow through the oblique channel from the pumping chamber. The angle between the oblique and main channel causes the variation of flow distribution through upstream and downstream channels in suction and blowing modes. In the suction flow mode, the working fluid flows from both the upstream and downstream of the main channel to the pumping chamber through the oblique channel. However, in the blowing flow mode, the fluid pushed out of the pumping chamber flows more toward the downstream of the main channel due to the inertia of the fluid. In the present study, the effects of geometries such as the angle of oblique channel and the shape of main channel on the flow rate of the up/downstream were investigated. The flow rate obtained from the pump and the energy required to the pump were also analyzed for various displacements and frequencies of the oscillation of the diaphragm.

  • Spin coater is regarded as a major module rotating at high speed to be used build up polymer resin thin film layer fur bonding process of GaAs wafer. This module is consisted of spin unit for spreading uniformly, align device, resin spreading nozzle and et. al. Specially, spin unit which is a component of module can cause to vibrate and finally affect to the uniformity of polymer resin film layer. For the stability prediction of rotation velocity and uniformity of polymer resin film layer, it is very important to understand the dynamic characteristics of assembled spin coater module and the dynamic response mode resulted from rotation behavior of spin chuck. In this paper, stress concentration mode and the deformed shape of spin chuck generated due to angular acceleration process are presented using analytical method for evaluation of structural safety according to the revolution speed variation of spin unit. And also, deformation form of GaAs wafer due to dynamic behavior of spin chuck is presented fur the comparison of former simulated results.

  • This paper presents the vibration characteristics of a rectangular plate with $45^{\circ}$ oblique crack subjected to a uniaxial tension. The experiment is adopted by the time-average Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry(ESPI) method. The natural frequency and mode shape are considered accurately according to the increase of tensile load. When tensile load is zero, the vibration modes we agreed with the smooth and the $45^{\circ}$ obliquely cracked plate. But according to the increasement of load it is shown that vibration modes are extremely varied. The effects of the crack under the vibration are discussed in detail. It is indicated that the increase of load makes the variation of the frequencies and modes complicate in the range of even a small load. The results are agreed with the FEM analysis within 5%.

  • Research for climate control seats is being vigorously pursued because requests for passenger's thermal comfort are increasing. Recently, thermoelectric devices have been applied to automotive seats for both cooling and heating operations. The climate control seats using thermoelectric devices can rapidly control the air temperature passing through the devices and directly affect the thermal comfort of passengers. The performance characteristics of the climate control seats were analyzed by experiments for two different types of a leather covered seat and a mesh applied seat. Experimental results show that the cooling and heating performance for the mesh applied seat by using the discharge port of the shape of nozzle was improved significantly in comparison with that for the leather covered seat. The variation of temperature between the inlet air and the outlet air of the climate control seat for the enhanced mesh applied type was by $-3.5^{\circ}C$ at cooling mode, and was by $15.0^{\circ}C$ at heating mode, after about 30 minutes, respectively. Also, it is possible to provide rapid thermal comfort to passengers sitting on the seat in the vehicle cabin by using the proposed climate control seat.

  • Switched Reluctance Motors(SRMs) have a considerable inherent torque ripple due to the driving characteristics of pulse current waveform and the nonlinear variation inductance profile. This paper describes a current shape characteristics to effect a torque ripple reduction, and one pulse mode switching control method is proposed to minimize torque ripple of a switched reluctance motor regardless of speed and load condition by regulating tow parameters, such as, advance angle and exciting voltage. The experiments are performed to verify the capability of proposed switching method on 6/4 salient type SRM.

  • Element based differential quadrature method (EDQM) has been applied to analyze static, stability and free vibration of non-homogeneous orthotropic rectangular plates of variable or stepped thickness. The Young's modulus and the density are assumed to vary in exponential form in X-direction whereas the thickness is assumed to vary linear, parabolic or exponential variation in one or two directions. In-plane loading is assumed to vary linearly. Various combinations of clamped, simply supported and free edge conditions (regular and irregular boundary) have been considered. Continuous plates could also be handled with ease. In this paper, formulation for equilibrium, buckling and free vibration problems is discussed and several numerical examples are solved using EDQM and compared with the published results.

  • This paper is concerned with the orthotropic problem of diaphragm-type air springs which consist of rubber linings, nylon reinforced rubber composite and bead ring. The analysis is carried out with a finite element method developed to consider the orthotropic properties, geometric nonlinearity using four-node degenerated shell element with reduced integration. Physical stabilization scheme is used to control the zeroenergy mode of the element. The analysis includes an inflation analysis and a lateral analysis of an air spring for the deformed shape and the spring load with respect to the vertical and l ateral deflection. Numerical results demonstrate the variation of the outer diameter, the fold height, the vertical force and the lateral force with respect to the inflation pressure and the lateral deflection.
