$TiO_2$ particles, 30-300 nm in diameter, were prepared by thermal decomposition of titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP) using an aerosol microreactor, by which about $1{\mu}l$ of the liquid precursor is injected into an evaporator, 1 cc in volume, and vaporized precursor is then transported by nitrogen as a bolus to a tubular reactor 4 mm in diameter and 35 cm in length. Investigated were the effects of the reactor temperature and the concentration of TTIP vapor on the morphology, particle size distribution and crystalline structure of produced $TiO_2$ particles. With TTIP vapor concentration kept constant at 1 mol%, the reactor temperature was varied from 300 to 500 and $700^{\circ}C$. The primary particle size decreased with increasing the temperature, and the size distributions were mono-modal at 300 and $500^{\circ}C$, but bi-modal at $700^{\circ}C$. The TTIP vapor concentration was increased from 1 to 3.5 and 7 mol%, holding the reactor temperature at $700^{\circ}C$. The bi-modal distribution seen at the concentration of 1 mol% disappeared and the number of particles composing an agglomerate increased at the higher concentrations. These effects of the reactor temperature and the precursor concentration were discussed in comparison with experimental results reported earlier.

In this paper, it is aimed to determine the seismic behaviour of highway bridges by nondestructive testing using ambient vibration measurements. Eynel Highway Bridge which has arch type structural system with a total length of 216 m and located in the Ayvaclk county of Samsun, Turkey is selected as an application. The bridge connects the villages which are separated with Suat U$\breve{g}$urlu Dam Lake. A three dimensional finite element model is first established for a highway bridge using project drawings and an analytical modal analysis is then performed to generate natural frequencies and mode shapes in the three orthogonal directions. The ambient vibration measurements are carried out on the bridge deck under natural excitation such as traffic, human walking and wind loads using Operational Modal Analysis. Sensitive seismic accelerometers are used to collect signals obtained from the experimental tests. To obtain experimental dynamic characteristics, two output-only system identification techniques are employed namely, Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition technique in the frequency domain and Stochastic Subspace Identification technique in time domain. Analytical and experimental dynamic characteristic are compared with each other and finite element model of the bridge is updated by changing of boundary conditions to reduce the differences between the results. It is demonstrated that the ambient vibration measurements are enough to identify the most significant modes of highway bridges. After finite element model updating, maximum differences between the natural frequencies are reduced averagely from 23% to 3%. The updated finite element model reflects the dynamic characteristics of the bridge better, and it can be used to predict the dynamic response under complex external forces. It is also helpful for further damage identification and health condition monitoring. Analytical model of the bridge before and after model updating is analyzed using 1992 Erzincan earthquake record to determine the seismic behaviour. It can be seen from the analysis results that displacements increase by the height of bridge columns and along to middle point of the deck and main arches. Bending moments have an increasing trend along to first and last 50 m and have a decreasing trend long to the middle of the main arches.
Complex acoustic signals can be formed in a water-filled acoustic pulse tube under some exciting conditions. It makes difficult to measure plane-wave reflection coefficient with the pulse tube for low frequency bands. In this study, using COMSOL Multiphysics we show that the tube wall excitation generates complex acoustic field of nonplanar mode as well as planar one. From such field incident or reflected planar mode can be decomposed respectively with a modal decomposition method, two-dimensional Fourier filtering. It makes possible to more accurately determine the plane-wave reflection coefficient of acoustic specimen with time gating.
This paper presents a time-domain approach for analyzing nonlinear random vibrations of long-span suspended cables under transversal wind. A consistent continuous model of the cable, fully accounting for geometrical nonlinearities inherent in cable behavior, is adopted. The effects of spatial correlation are properly included by modeling wind velocity fluctuation as a random function of time and of a single spatial variable ranging over cable span, namely as a one-variate bi-dimensional (1V-2D) random field. Within the context of a Galerkin's discretization of the equations governing cable motion, a very efficient Monte Carlo-based technique for second-order analysis of the response is proposed. This procedure starts by generating sample functions of the generalized aerodynamic loads by using the spectral decomposition of the cross-power spectral density function of wind turbulence field. Relying on the physical meaning of both the spectral properties of wind velocity fluctuation and the mode shapes of the vibrating cable, the computational efficiency is greatly enhanced by applying a truncation procedure according to which just the first few significant loading and structural modal contributions are retained.
For a long cable-stayed bridge, stay cables are its most important load-carrying components. In this paper, long-term monitoring of super-long stay cables of Sutong Bridge is introduced. A comprehensive data analysis procedure is presented, in which time domain and frequency domain based analyses are carried out. In time domain, the vibration data of several long stay cables are firstly analyzed and the standard deviation of the acceleration of stay cables, and its variation with time are obtained, as well as the relationship between in-plane vibration and out-plane vibration. Meanwhile, some vibrations such as wind and rain induced vibration are detected. Through frequency domain analysis, the basic frequencies of the stay cables are identified. Furthermore, the axial forces and their statistical parameters are acquired. To investigate the vibration deflection, an FFT-based decomposition method is used to get the modal deflection. In the end, the relationship between the vibration amplitude of stay cables and the wind speed is investigated based on correlation analysis. Through the adopted procedure, some structural parameters of the stay cables have been derived, which can be used for evaluating the component performance and corresponding management of stay cables.
Nowadays, there are a great number of various structures that have been retrofitted by using different FRP Composites. Due to this, more researches need to be conducted to know more the characteristics of these structures, not only that but also a comparison among them before and after the retrofitting is needed. In this research, a model steel structure is tested using a bench-scale earthquake simulator on the shake table, using recorded micro tremor data, in order to get the dynamic behaviors. Beams of the model steel structure are then retrofitted by using CFRP composite, and then tested on the Quanser shake table by using the recorded micro tremor data. At this stage, it is needed to evaluate the dynamic behaviors of the retrofitted model steel structure. Various types of methods of OMA, such as EFDD, SSI, etc. are used to take action in the ambient responses. Having a purpose to learn more about the effects of FRP composite, experimental model analysis of both types (retrofitted and no-retrofitted models) is conducted to evaluate their dynamic behaviors. There is a provision of ambient excitation to the shake table by using recorded micro tremor ambient vibration data on ground level. Furthermore, the Enhanced Frequency Domain decomposition is used through output-only modal identification. At the end of this study, moderate correlation is obtained between mode shapes, periods and damping ratios. The aim of this research is to show and determine the effects of CFRP Composite implementation on structural responses of the model steel structure, in terms of changing its dynamical behaviors. The frequencies for model steel structure and the retrofitted model steel structure are shown to be 34.43% in average difference. Finally, it is shown that, in order to evaluate the period and rigidity of retrofitted structures, OMA might be used.
Methods for the seismic demands evaluation of structures require iterative procedures. Many studies dealt with the development of different inelastic spectra with the aim to simplify the evaluation of inelastic deformations and performance of structures. Recently, the concept of inelastic spectra has been adopted in the global scheme of the Performance-Based Seismic Design (PBSD) through Capacity-Spectrum Method (CSM). For instance, the Modal Pushover Analysis (MPA) has been proved to provide accurate results for inelastic buildings to a similar degree of accuracy than the Response Spectrum Analysis (RSA) in estimating peak response for elastic buildings. In this paper, a simplified nonlinear procedure for evaluation of the seismic demand of structures is proposed with its applicability to multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) systems. The basic concept is to write the equation of motion of (MDOF) system into series of normal modes based on an inelastic modal decomposition in terms of ductility factor. The accuracy of the proposed procedure is verified against the Nonlinear Time History Analysis (NL-THA) results and Uncoupled Modal Response History Analysis (UMRHA) of a 9-story steel building subjected to El-Centro 1940 (N/S) as a first application. The comparison shows that the new theoretical approach is capable to provide accurate peak response with those obtained when using the NL-THA analysis. After that, a simplified nonlinear spectral analysis is proposed and illustrated by examples in order to describe inelastic response spectra and to relate it to the capacity curve (Pushover curve) by a new parameter of control, called normalized yield strength coefficient (${\eta}$). In the second application, the proposed procedure is verified against the NL-THA analysis results of two buildings for 80 selected real ground motions.

The sensor configuration of the magnetostrictive guided wave system can be described as a single continuous transducing element which makes it difficult to separate the individual modes from the reflected signal. In this work we develop the mode decomposition technique employing chirplet transform, which is able to separate the individual modes from dispersive and multimodal waveform measured with the magnetostrictive sensor, and to estimate the time-frequency centers and individual energies of the reflection, which would be used to locate and characterize defects. The reflection coefficients are calculated using the modal energies of the separated mode. Results from experimental results on a carbon steel pipe are presented, which show that the accurate and quantitative defect characterization could become enabled using the proposed technique.

The proper orthogonal decomposition(POD) is used to the modal analysis of microcantilever of dynamic mode atomic force microscopy(AFM). The proper orthogonal modes(POM) are extracted from vibrating signals of microcantilever when it resonates and taps the sample. The POMs resemble the linear normal modes(LNM) of cantilever vibrating at each resonance frequency. Some of POMs in tapping microcantilever show quite different shapes from the POMs of the resonating microcantilever. Also this POMs can be applied to model for the complex nonlinear behavior of the dynamic mode AFM microcantilevers.

In this paper, an efficient model reduction scheme is presented for large scale dynamic systems. The method is founded on a modal analysis in which optimal eigenvalue is extracted from time samples of the given system response. The techniques we discuss are based on classical theory such as the Karhunen-Loeve expansion. Only recently has it been applied to structural dynamics problems. It consists in obtaining a set of orthogonal eigenfunctions where the dynamics is to be projected. Practically, one constructs a spatial autocorrelation tensor and then performs its spectral decomposition. The resulting eigenfunctions will provide the required proper orthogonal modes(POMs) or empirical eigenmodes and the correspondent empirical eigenvalues (or proper orthogonal values, POVs) represent the mean energy contained in that projection. The purpose of this paper is to compare the reduced order model using Karhunen-Loeve expansion with the full model analysis. A cantilever beam and a simply supported plate subjected to sinusoidal force demonstrated the validity and efficiency of the reduced order technique by K-L method.
