  • Micro-mobility protocols have been developed to reduce the control message overhead due to movements of mobile nodes. With the spread of mobile devices, services using mobile nodes are increasing and multicast services are becoming more important in providing multimedia services. In this paper we propose a new multicast protocol suitable for micro-mobility environments. The proposed protocol is designed to maintain optimal multicast routing paths and continue to provide multicast services without disruption in spite of frequent handoffs due to movements of mobile nodes. We used simulation to evaluate the proposed protocol, compared its performance with existing multicast protocols for mobile environments including bi-directional tunneling, remote subscription, and MMA, and observed that the proposed protocol exhibited better performance in terms of transmission success ratio and overhead on the network.

  • Fast handover is essential to support seamless multicast service in MIPv6. To reduce handover latency of multicast, there are two handover mechanisms, one is M-FMIP that prepares fast L3 handover before L2 handover and the other is M-HMIP that performs local area mobile multicast management. This paper proposes M-FHMIP that integrates an advantage of M-FMIP and M-HMIP, and analyzes the multicast handover latency.

  • Two multicast delivery schemes are proposed to minimize the packet loss that occurs in the mobile multicast (MoM) protocol due to the handoff and relocation. The proposed schemes use a primary designated multicast service provider (DMSP) and a redundant or non-redundant backup DMSP. The simulation results verify that the proposed schemes greatly reduce the packet loss rate at the expense of the increased network traffic or the extra protocol overhead related to the operation of the non-redundant backup DMSP.

  • Recently, Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) has received much attention as a mobility management protocol in next-generation all-IP mobile networks. While the current research related to PMIPv6 mainly focuses on providing efficient handovers for unicast-based applications, there has been relatively little interest in supporting multicast services with PMIPv6. To provide support for multicast services with PMIPv6, there are two alternative approaches called Mobile Access Gateway (MAG)-based subscription and Local Mobility Anchor (LMA)-based subscription. However, MAG-based subscription causes a large overhead for multicast joining and LMA-based subscription provides non-optimal multicast routing paths. The two approaches may also cause a high packet loss rate. In this paper, we propose an efficient PMIPv6-based multicast protocol that aims to provide an optimal delivery path for multicast data and to reduce handover delay and packet loss rate. Through simulation studies, we found that the proposed protocol outperforms existing multicast solutions for PMIPv6 in terms of end-to-end delay, service disruption period, and the number of lost packets during handovers.

  • Whereas the traditional multicast schemes based on Mobile IP can support a limited number of very large multicast groups, the Xcast protocol can support a very large number of small multicast groups, In the Xcast, the source node encodes the list of destinations in the Xcast header. Therefore, the maximum packet size in the network limits the number of destinations that a Xcast packet may have. In this paper, an enhanced Xcast protocol is proposed to solve the multicast group size limitation of the existing Xcast protocol in providing multicast service for mobile nodes. Moreover, the SIP (a very flexible control plane protocol) is integrated with the proposed multicast scheme to provide mobility awareness on the application layer. The simulation results verify that the proposed multicast scheme not only increases the packet delivery ratio and the data packet forwarding efficiency but also achieves low latency of packets in the network.

  • The interest for IPv6, Which is next generation IP, increases, while th difficulty for adopting it into IT indestries also increase too. We also expect that Internet technologies develop 0 basis of All-IP networks, which include various heterogeneous networks. Therefore, it is necessary for network to support mobility and multicast capavility to create application with wide-variety- In this paper, we propose a scheme that be able to provide mobility and multicast efficient in IPv6 networks. The proposed scheme has been implemented and experimented on NS-2 and validated with respect to multicast packet delay time and count of Joining and pruning)

  • A multicast session protocol in wireless networks reduces the session delay of multicast delivery caused by moving of mobile host. A hand-off scheme, called MSDR (multicast session delay reduction), in mobile networks is proposed. MSDR protocol that minimizes the delay of a session re-establishment uses the basic unicast routing function of the IETF mobile IP and the DFA (designated foreign agent) to provide multicast services for mobile hosts. Proposed MSDR protocol allows the mobile hosts to continuously receive packets when they move across the basic sets during hand-off. Discrete-event simulation carried out for performance evaluation of MSDR protocol, and simulation results indicated that our scheme can offer a better performance of multicast session delay reduction in terms of signalling cost than that of IETF.

  • The packet loss problem that occurs in the mobile multicast (MoM) protocol due to designated multicast service provider(DMSP) handoff is investigated through simulation experiments for several DMSP selection policies. Then, two enhanced DMSP schemes are proposed to minimize the packet loss of the MoM protocol with single DMSP. The first scheme uses a backup DMSP and greatly reduces the packet loss rate at the expense of the increased network traffic. The second scheme utilizes the extended DMSP operation and shows many desirable features such as the almost zero packet loss rate and relatively low network traffic.

  • The structure of $IP^2$(IP based-IMT Network Platform) as ubiquitous platform is three-layered model : Middleware including NCPF(Network Control Platform) and SSPF(Service Support Platform), IP-BB(IP-Backbone), Access network including Sensor network. A mobility management(MM) architecture in NCPF is proposed for $IP^2$. It manages routing information and location information separately. The existing method of multicast control in $IP^2$ is Remote Subscription. But Remote Subscription has problem that should be reconstructed whole Multicast tree when sender moves. To solve this problem, we propose a way to put Multicast Manager in NCPF.
