  • The number of digital content used in mobile devices such as smartphones or tablet PCs has been rapidly increasing along with the development of IT industry. At the same time, studies on digital content management are actively conducted. One of the previous studies defined CTI(Content Tracking Information) for efficient management of the information on digital content usage between mobile devices in an area in which the internet is inaccessible, and suggested ways to deal with CTI management, reduction of the overhead and a technique of collecting as many CTIs as possible within a short time. This paper presents the design and implementation of a simulator capable of verifying the logic and the performance of the CTI management method. This tool simulates a mobile environment where devices move around in the internet inaccessible area and propagates digital contents each other. It shows several advantages including the efficient synchronization of CTI management and overhead reduction.

  • As individuals create many contents anytime and anywhere together with the widespread dissemination of smart devices as well as various social networking services (SNS), content centric networking (CCN) has regarded as a new networking technology. However, CCN is exposed to malicious attacks on the mobility management of mobile content sources during handover and high volume of control messages. Therefore, this paper presents a secure duplicate name detection (SecureDND) mechanism without additional control messages by signed information and secure token. It is shown from the performance evaluation that the proposed scheme can provide low control overhead, which results in the network scalability.

  • This paper proposes a mobile augmented reality mashup for cultural heritage sites such as natural monuments. Several benefits of mobile augmented reality solutions are ideal for preserving and protecting cultural heritage sites. By presenting mobile augmented reality mashup scenarios and mobile mashup framework, we introduce how user-generated multimedia contents can be added. We present two scenarios of Mashup Viewer and Mashup Maker. In Mashup Viewer mode, visitors can create new AR contents using mashup tools for memo, Twitter, images and statistical graphs. In Mashup Maker mode, other visitors also can view the user-generated multimedia AR contents using QR codes as access points. To show feasibility of our approach in mobile platforms, we compare several detection algorithms on PC and mobile platform and report on deployment of our approach in a natural monument museum. With our proposed mashup tools, visitors to the cultural heritage sites can enjoy default AR contents provided by the site administrators and also participate as active content producers and consumers.

  • Despite the fact that the mobile environment has favorable conditions for using data contents, it is not easy to implement enhanced data services for mobile broadcasting based on MPEG-4 BIFS. With a structure inherited from VRML, BIFS targets different types of content with a development approach that is not very compatible with broadcasting contents. Furthermore, it is not easy to implement BIFS because the standard is too complicated for the mobile broadcasting environment. Accordingly, this study proposes an enhanced mobile TV contents model that provides interactive 3D objects and GUI for the viewers to interact with the broadcasting contents. By applying the model to the DMB environment, this study suggests a direction for future developments of mobile broadcasting contents. In order to represent 3D graphics on mobile TV, we analyzed MPEG-BIFS 3D nodes and composed a subset of VRML profile, and defined new nodes that can efficiently represent GUI at the content development level. If this study helps facilitate expression of 3D graphics and interactions in data contents composition, enhanced efficiency of contents development is expected to promote the development of various contents suitable for the mobile broadcasting environment.
