  • In this paper, we designed a vertex shader for mobile devices. Proposed Vertex shader is compatible with the OpenGL ARB & DirectX 8.0 Vertex Shader 1.1 and is organized of modified IEEE-754 24 bits float point SIMD architecture. All float point arithmetic unit process 1 cycle operation with 100Mhz frequency more. We made a vertex shader demo system with Xilinx-Virtex II and get synthesis result that confirm 11M gates size at TSMC 0.13um @ 115MHz.

  • In this paper, the navigation problem for a mobile robot is investigated. Specifically, it is proposed that simple guide-marks be introduced and the navigation scheme be generated in conjunction with the guide-marks sensed through camera vision. For autonomous navigation, it was shown that a triple guide-mark system is more effective than a single guide-mark in estimating the position of rho vehicle itself. the navigation system is tested via a mobile robot 'Hero' equipped with a single camera vision.

  • This paper describes a grid mapping for a vision based mobile robot in uncertain indoor environment. The map building is a prerequisite for navigation of a mobile robot and the problem of feature correspondence across two images is well known to be of crucial Importance for vision-based mapping We use a stereo matching algorithm obtained by singular value decomposition of an appropriate correspondence strength matrix. This new correspondence strength means a correlation weight for some local measurements to quantify similarity between features. The visual range data from the reconstructed disparity image form an occupancy grid representation. The occupancy map is a grid-based map in which each cell has some value indicating the probability at that location ...

  • Up to date, application areas of mobile robots have been expanded. In addition, Many types of LRF(Laser Range Finder) systems have been developed to acquire three dimensional information about unknown environments. However in real world, because of various noises (sunlight, fluorescent light), it is difficult to separate reflected laser light from these noise. To overcome the previous restriction, we have developed a new type vision system which enables a mobile robot to measure the distance to a object located 1-5 (m) ahead with an error than 2%. The separation and detection algorithm used in this system consists of pulse phase difference method and multi-stripe structured light. The effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed vision system are demonstrated by 3-D maps of detected objects and computation time analysis.

  • Autonomous navigation of mobile robot requires a ranging system for measurement of distance to environmental objects. It is obvious that the wider and the faster distance measurement gives a mobile robot more freedom in trajectory planning and control. The active omni-directional ranging system proposed in this paper is capable of obtaining the distance for all 3600 directions in real-time because of the omni-directional mirror and the structured light. Distance computation including the sensitivity analysis and the experiments on the omni-directional ranging are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed system.

  • The safe navigation of a mobile robot requires the recognition of the environment in terms of vision processing. To be guided in the given path, the robot should acquire the information about where the wall and corridor are located. Also unexpected obstacles should be detected as rapid as possible for the safe obstacle avoidance. In the paper, we assume that the mobile robot should be navigated in the flat surface. In terms of this assumption we simplify the correspondence problem by the free navigation surface and matching features in that coordinate system. Basically, the vision processing system adopts line segment of edge as the feature. The extracted line segments of edge out of both image are matched in the free nevigation surface. According to the matching result, each line segment is labeled by the attributes regarding obstacle and free surface and the 3D shape of obstacle is interpreted. This proposed vision processing method is verified in terms of various simulations and experimentation using real images.

  • This paper describes the algorithm for WMR (Wheeled Mobile Robot) to follow the preceding object using stereo vision. The center point of object existing in each image is calculate. From the distance and variation of two center points, we calculates the distance from WMR to preceding object and the relative velocity of WMR. And we use the Lyapunov theory to design controller.

  • General stereo vision system shows things in 3D, using two visions of left and right side. When the viewpoints of left/right sides are not in accord with each other, it gives fatigue to human eyes and prevents them from having the 3-D feeling. Also, it would be difficult to track mobile objects that are not in the middle of a screen. Therefore, the object tracking function of stereo vision system is to control tracking objects to always be in the middle of a screen while controlling convergence angles of mobile objects in the input image of the left/right cameras. In this paper, object-tracker in stereo vision system is presented which would track mobile objects by using block matching algorithm of preprocessing and JTC.

  • This paper presents identified locations of obstacles using ultrasonic and vision sensor for mobile robots. An ultrasonic and a vision sensor provide complementary information. To overcome limitations of each sensor, they are combined. To improve effectiveness of detecting of obstacles in image processing, a modified splitting/merging algorithm is proposed. In order to verify effectiveness, proposed algorithm is applied to a mobile robot control system.

  • In this paper, a moving target tracking using a binocular vision for an omni-directional mobile robot is addressed. In the binocular vision, three dimensional information on the target is extracted by vision processes including calibration, image correspondence, and 3D reconstruction. The robot controller is constituted with SPI(serial peripheral interface) to communicate effectively between robot master controller and wheel controllers.
