The purpose of this research was to develop an integrated interface for the usability test of systems or products in the design process. It is capable of automatically creating GOMS models which can predict human task performances. It can generate GOMS models to be interacted with the prototype interfaces. It can also effectively manage various design information and various usability test results to be implemented into the new product and/or system design. Thus we can perform usability test for products or system prototypes more effectively and also reduce time and effort required for this test. For usability tests, we established an integrated interface based on GOMS model by the LabVIEW program. We constructed the system that the linkage to GOMS model is available. Using this integrated interface, the menu structure of mobile phone can be constructed easily. User can design a depth and a breath that he want. The size of button and the label of the button is changable. The path to the goal can be defined by the user. Using a designed menu structure, the experiment could be performed. The results of GOMS model and the actual time are presented. Besides, values of operators of GOMS model can be defined as the value that user wants. Using the integrated interface that we developed, the optimal menu structure deducted. The menu structure that user wants can be established easily. The optimal layout and button size can be decided by comparison of numerous menu structures. User can choose the method of usability test among GOMS model and empirical data. Using this integrated interface, the time and costs can be saved and the optimal menu structure can be found easily.
Information devices such as a cellular phone, smart phone, and PDA become smaller to such an extent that people put them into their pockets without any difficulties. This drastic miniaturization causes to deteriorate the readability of text-based contents. The morphological characteristics of size and proportion are supposed to have close relationships with the pocketability and text readability of mobile information devices. This research was aimed to investigate the optimal morphological characteristics to satisfy the two usability factors together. For this purpose, we conducted an controlled experiment, which was designed to evaluate the pocketability according to $size(4000mm^2/8000mm^2)$, proportion(1:1/2:1/3:1), and weight(100g/200g) of information devices as well as participants' pose and carrying method. In the case of male participants putting the models of information device into their pockets, 2:1 morphological proportion was preferred. On the other hand, the female participants carrying the models in their hands preferred 2:1 proportion$(size:4000mm^2{\times}2mm)$ and 3:1 proportion$(size:8000mm^2{\times}20mm)$. For the device in the size of $4000mm^2$, it was found that the weight of device has an significant effect on pocketability. In consequence, 2:1 proportion is optimal to achieve better pocketability. The second experiment was about how text readability is affected by size $(2000mm^2/4000mm^2/8000mm^2)$ and proportion(1:1/2:1/3:1) of information devices as well as interlinear space of displayed text(135%/200%). From this experiment result, it was found that reading speed was increased as line length increased. Regarding the subjective assessment on reading task, 2:1 proportion was strongly preferred. Based on these results, we suggest 2:l proportion as an optimal proportion that satisfy pocketability of mobile information devices and text readability displayed on the screen together. To apply these research outputs to a practical design work efficiently, it is important to take into account the fact that the space for input devices is also required in addition to a display screen.
Nowadays, reading text from screens is prevailing in everyday life. The advent of mobile information devices such as a cellular phone, PDA, and e-book reader facilitates us to enjoy various text-based contents any time and anywhere. Most studies comparing screen and paper readability show that screens are less readable than paper. Furthermore, the decrease of line length and number of lines that can be displayed on the screen of mobile information devices deteriorate text readability. This study investigated parameters affecting text readability on small screens and designed a new text layout to improve readability. We suggested a diagonally splitted layout of rectangular column, which is supposed to facilitate eye movement to trace text flow with ease. The experiment comparing readability between a traditional rectangular column and a diagonally splitted column was conducted. The result of experiment revealed that there is no significant difference between the two text layouts in terms of subjective satisfaction of reading task and a level of comprehension. However, in the screen size of $4000mm^2\;and\;8000mm^2$, reading speed was increased 18.9% and 34.0% respectively from a traditional rectangular column to a diagonally splitted column. We conducted a consecutive experiment to scrutinize the cause that improved the performance in readability task remarkably. The readability of text in a traditional rectangular column was compared with a left triangular column and a right triangular column in the condition of $4000mm^2/3:1$ ratio screen. The performance measurements revealed that participants read 21.1% and 67.6% faster respectively with the left triangular column and right triangular column than with the rectangular column. In consequence, the improvement of readability in the diagonally splitted column was attributed mainly to the increase of reading speed in the right triangular column. This research verified that the diagonally splitted column improve text readability on a small screen and this result is expected to make a contribution to designing an efficient text layout for mobile information devices
Under ubiquitous work environment, innovative changes occur in work process with ICT. The work process for collaboration through mobile devices and network should be investigated. The research model consists of two major antecedents: autonomy and interdependence as a task characteristic and job satisfaction as ultimate consequence followed by work design theory. To elaborate work design theory, smartwork application (app) use, communication extent, and work-life balance were reviewed from the literature. Data were collected from three ICT firms, which adopted certain smartwork app, and a partial least squares analysis was made on 175 data points. The analysis results show that task interdependence exerts a statistically significant effect on the level of smartwork app usage. Communication extent directly affects job satisfaction and work-life balance. The remarkable point is that smartwork app usage does not affect employees' work-life balance; the former can only affect the latter indirectly by increasing communication extent. This study attempts to explain the organizational impact by considering smartwork app and the effects simultaneously. We proposed and empirically tested the extended work design theory including information technology and its environment. Based on the results, other theoretical and practical contributions are discussed at the end with limitations and further studies.

Systematic theory, concepts, and methodology for the biological evolution have been developed while patterns and principles of the evolution have been actively studied in the past 200 years. Furthermore, they are applied to various fields such as evolutionary economics, evolutionary psychology, evolutionary linguistics, making significant progress in research. In addition, existing studies have applied main biological evolutionary models to artifacts although such methods do not fit to them. These models are also limited to generalize evolutionary patterns of artifacts because they are designed in terms of a subjective point of view of experts who know well about the artifacts. Unlike biological organisms, because artifacts are likely to reflect the imagination of the human will, it is known that the theory of biological evolution cannot be directly applied to artifacts. In this paper, beyond the individual's subjective, the aim of our research is to present evolutionary patterns of a given artifact based on peeping the idea of the public. For this, we propose a text mining approach that presents a systematic framework that can find out the evolutionary patterns of a given artifact and then visualize effectively. In particular, based on our proposal, we focus mainly on a case study of mobile phone that has emerged as an icon of innovation in recent years. We collect and analyze review posts on mobile phone available in the domestic market over the past decade, and discuss the detailed results about evolutionary patterns of the mobile phone. Moreover, this kind of task is a tedious work over a long period of time because a small number of experts carry out an extensive literature survey and summarize a huge number of materials to finally draw a diagram of evolutionary patterns of the mobile phone. However, in this work, to minimize the human efforts, we present a semi-automatic mining algorithm, and through this research we can understand how human creativity and imagination are implemented. In addition, it is a big help to predict the future trend of mobile phone in business and industries.

Efficient power management plays a crucial role to strengthen competitiveness in the market of portable mobile commodities. This paper presents a proactive power management technique, called by Energy-Aware Scheduling policY (EASY), to exploit the sleep time information of running applications. Different from previous power management approaches focusing on power conservation in standby mode, the proposed scheme characterizes each application program's operational characteristic in active mode by observing how long the task stays in sleep state of CPU scheduler. Based on the measured sleep time, the proposed EASY speculates an adequate CPU clock frequency according to the current CPU workload and scales the frequency directly to the predicted one. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme reduces the power consumption by 10-30% on average compared to traditional DPM approach, with a minimal impact on the performance overhead.

The purpose of this study is to examine an organizational performance difference by individual utilization level of the smart work. The Smart work help minimizing business process and improving organization productivity based on information technology. This new technology provides a flexible way of the task through smart-work center, videoconferencing, telecommuting, mobile(remote control) and business-only messenger. This investment changes organizational culture, institutions and behavior by new technology applying. The organization system change due to smart work has trouble between alteration preferences and existing maintains a group. In response, the organization should make investment justification of smart work for institutional and culture stabilized by a new system in organization. I set up the analytical process of four stages for empirical research. It will analyze an operation difference of the smart work between pre and post investment in the first-step analysis. The two-step analysis will conduct a text mining analysis of smart work operations. The three-step analysis will identify organization performance differences among individual levels in smart work. The four-step analysis will identify a factor difference in organizational performance by individual utilization level on smart work. According to the study, It has been revealed a difference between the pre and post investment performance on smart work. The text mining analyses many appeared an improvement opinion of organizational culture. Next, there is a difference in organization performance among utilize groups of smart work. Furthermore, the factors of organizational performance among groups appeared differently. The theoretical contribution of this study provided to expand the organizational theory of organization change and resistance. The practical implications provided to require a strong guideline an organizational culture and institution for smart work.

Research is underway to solve the traffic problem by using crowdsourcing, where drivers use their mobile devices to provide traffic information. If it is used for traffic event detection through crowdsourcing, the task of collecting related data is reduced, which lowers time cost and increases accuracy. In this paper, we propose a scheme to collect traffic-related data using crowdsourcing and to detect events affecting traffic through this. The proposed scheme uses machine learning algorithms for processing large amounts of data to determine the event type of the collected data. In addition, to find out the location where the event occurs, a keyword indicating the location is extracted from the collected data, and the administrative area of the keyword is returned. In this way, it is possible to resolve a location that is broadly defined in the existing location information or incorrect location information. Various performance evaluations are performed to prove the superiority and feasibility of the proposed scheme.
Localizing an object in image is a common task in the field of computer vision. As the existing methods provide a detection for the single object in an image, they have an utilization limit for the use of the application, due to similar objects are in the actual picture. This paper proposes an efficient method of object localization for image recognition. The new proposed method uses color correlation back-projection in the YCbCr chromaticity color space to deal with the object localization problem. Using the proposed algorithm enables users to detect and locate primary location of object within the image, as well as candidate regions can be detected accurately without any information about object counts. To evaluate performance of the proposed algorithm, we estimate success rate of locating object with common used image database. Experimental results reveal that improvement of 21% success ratio was observed. This study builds on spatially localized color features and correlation-based localization, and the main contribution of this paper is that a different way of using correlogram is applied in object localization.

To develop the new network, the future network architecture is studied. Since the mobile devices are also advanced, they need for the mobility protocols. The one of the protocols, Fast handovers for proxy MIPv6(PFMIPv6) has studied by the Internet Engineering Task Force(IETF). Since PFMIPv6 adopts the entities and the concepts of fast handovers for MIPv6(FMIPv6) in proxy MIPv6(PMIPv6), it reduces the packet loss. Although the conventional scheme has proposed that it cooperated with an Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) infrastructure for authentication of a mobile node in PFMIPv6, it has the drawbacks such as high signaling cost and long handover latency. To reduce the signaling cost and the handover latency, we propose an enhanced authentication scheme in Fast handover for Proxy MIPv6. The proposed scheme reduces the handover latency and the signaling cost because the registration procedure and the authentication procedure are simultaneously performed. We also compare the proposed scheme with the conventional scheme in terms of the signaling cost and the handover latency.
