  • Because of increasing the notebook computer and PDA, users' requirement with respect to mobility is growing more and more. However, current IP protocol is not changed IP address and can not deliver IP packets on new location of host in case moving another network. To solve this problem, the IETF has proposed mobile IP. The network management for maintaining stable and efficient environment is more difficult according to being various by complicated network environment and requirements of provided service and user. The recent rises concern about policy-based network technology. Therefore, this paper proposed a framework of policy-based network and developed policy scenarios using the presented policy language of mobile IP.

  • Next-generation wireless/mobile networks are envisioned to have an IP-based infrastructure. One of the research challenges for next-generation all IP-based networks is the design of intelligent mobility management technologies that have a seamless mobility and minimal signaling overhead. Recently, HMIPv6 was proposed by the IETF for efficient mobility management. HMIPv6 reduces the amount of signaling and improves the performance of MIPv6 in terms of handover latency. However the MAP can be a single point of performance bottleneck when there are a lot of local movements. HMIPv6 can cause signaling overhead due to the unnecessary location update of idle mobile nodes. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the dynamic paging Mobile IPv6 that reduces the signaling cost of the unnecessary location updates using IP paging and organizes dynamically optimal MAP area according to user's mobility and traffic. We show performance results that are obtained from the average total location update cost and packet delivery cost.

  • Mobility management of the mobile nodes and provision of seamless handover is crucial to an efficient support for the global roaming of the mobile nodes in next-generation wireless networks. Mobile IPv6 and mobility management in extended IP layer, which highly depend on traffic characteristics and user mobility models, were proposed by the IETF. Therefore, to evaluate the in-depth performance about these factors is important. Generally, the performance of IPv6-based mobility management protocol is evaluated through simulation. This paper shows the correlation between network parameters and performance metrics through numerical results, which is investigated how influence handoff latency and packet loss. And this paper uses mathematical analysis of the system parameters, such as the subnet residence time, the packet arrival rate and delay in wireless connection through the analytical framework which evaluate the performance of IPv6-based mobility management protocol.

  • Mobile IP protocol introduced in RFC3344 provides a node of the mobility service through IP tunneling mechanism in the IP networks. In this paper, we describe a method to provide a mobility service for VPN(Virtual Private Network) nodes on the MPLS(Multiprotocol Label Switching) network. The MPLS VPN considered here is based on "BGP/MPLS VPNs" presented in RFC2547. PE(Provider′s Edge) routers, which are able to provide VPN services on the MPLS network, are associated with mobility agents to support Mobile IP This proposed mechanism applies when a VPN node moves to other site of the same VPN, or when it moves to other site of a different VPN, or to the ordinary Internet site. We implemented this mechanism in PE routers and analyzed the performance of the MPLS VPN with mobility support on the testbed.

  • A hybrid Ad-hoc network connected to the Internet needs an IP address configuration to communicate with the Internet. Most of proposed address autoconfiguration algorithms are node based. The node based address autoconfiguration algorithms waste bandwidth and consume much battery in mobile ad-hoc networks. In this paper, we propose the address allocation algorithm in hybrid Mobile ad-hoc network (MANET). The proposed algorithm reduces network traffic by transferring address configuration packet to the internet gateway by unicast method. Moreover, our IP address configuration algorithm also reduces battery consumption and address configuration time by decreasing number of configuration packets on internet gateway.

  • In this paper, we provide a comprehensive overview and classification on a wide range of the existing location management schemes which have been reported for wireless cellular networks and Mobile IP-based networks, respectively. In addition, from the various previous literature, we derive common key conceptual techniques, their main design goals and performance considerations on them, which can provide a useful guidance for understanding location management schemes regardless of network types. The aim of this paper is not to propose a new scheme for location management, but to highlight the various key design features involved in the design of the existing location management schemes, and to enhance an insight into the fundamental principles and techniques for designing more efficient and optimized location management scheme in future wireless mobile networks. We expect that regardless of network types, these underlying fundamental principles and conceptual techniques could be also easily tailored for more efficient mobility/QoS support in future mobile computing environments.

  • For effective IP based service implementation on the wireless network environments, wireless network including the ITS network have to support QoS guaranteed protocol such as a RSVP. RSVP is a resource reservation protocol for Internet environment, and its scalability makes easy to implement RSVP over the various IP transport technologies. But for the If based ITS wireless network environment, RSVP is not suitable, since by its path setup procedure characteristic. In the wireless access network for ITS service, when a mobile node moves to other domain it must perform registration procedure. But the registration procedure is time consuming steps, so if a RSVP session was already established in the previous domain, the RSYP session may be disconnected and the time to re establish a new RSVP session is long enough to cause serious packet loss. In this paper, we propose a pre-path reservation mechanism for applying the RSVP in wireless access networks for ITS. In the pre-path reservation mechanism, the resource reservation procedure occurred during a mobile node's handoff time. An access point in wireless access network performs this procedure when the mobile node attempts handoff The access point executes pre-path reservation procedure as a proxy, since the mobile node does not have IP address until the address allocation procedure is finished in a new domain.

  • Recently, IP mobility study of infra's common elements is undergoing processes to achieve FMC based on All-IP. Existing typical mobility technology based on IP is IETF's Mobile IP. However, it faced to limitations due to packet loss, delays when MN is moving on Mobile IP, also existing network infra - routers (FA)-needed to add/change the functions to support Mobile IP. In this paper, existing mobility problems based on IP and the suggested improvements for platforms which support mobility, quality, security are proposed. It discusses the performance on the current existing IP infrastructure derived from simulation analysis on mobility packet loss and delay. From the resulting data, improvements will also be outlined for optimal performance.

  • IMT-2000 technologies are divided 3G packet data system that using mobile IP and GPRS that based on the GSM networks. These technologies Push introduce mobile IP to support seamless roaming. In mobile If environments, use AAA server such as RADIUS or DIAMETER to provide authentication service for dial-up computers. This factor is important for mobile nodes. Mobile If require strong authentication between mobile nodes and home agents. We propose application of AAA protocols for smooth handoff mechanism in IMT-2000 environments.

  • The mobile terminal's frequent changes to the access point introduce significant network overhead in mobile IP networks. To solve this problem, we introduce a hierarchical structure with consideration given to the dynamic value of neighbor scope in IP regional registration[1]. When a mobile terminal moves within the neighbor given by the scope value, it makes registration locally without registration with its home agent. We analyze the algorithm mathematically and show the numerical results. As a result, optimization of the scope value for the localized registration under the hierarchical structure makes the proposed scheme outperform the standard mobile IP protocol[2]. This can be explained from the fact that there is only local registration for terminal's movement within the scope region. Moreover, as the signaling cost for home agent increases, the proposed scheme becomes more advantageous.
