Phase evolution and tribological behavior of Cr-Mo-N multi compositional films with different interlayer were investigated. The films were deposited by hybrid PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) system consisted of dc unbalanced magnetron (UBM) sputtering and arc ion plating (AIP) sources. A pure molybdenum (Mo) was used as sputtering target and also a pure Cr was used as AIP target to form the Cr-Mo-N films. Various growth planes were found, no textured surface, in all of the multi composition films. Maximum value of microhardness was measured in Cr-Mo-N film with Mo interlayer as 29 GPa. Composition film was mainly showed the aspect of the adhesive wear than CrN film. The friction coefficient was decreased from 0.6 for pure CrN coating to 0.35 for Cr-Mo-N film with Mo interlayer. This result may come from the formation of metal oxide tribo-layer which is known as solid lubricant during the wear test.
We have investigated magneto-transport properties in a MoS2 lateral spin-valve structures for different ferromagnetic CoFe electrode shapes and MoS2 channel lengths. For these devices, high quality and large-scale MoS2 thin films were synthesized through sulfurization of epitaxial MoO3 films and these sulfurized-MoO3 thin films properties are in good agreements with measurements on exfoliated MoS2 film. Magneto-transport measurements show a clear rectangular magnetoresistance signal of 0.16% and a spin polarization of 0.00012%. By using the one-dimensional spin diffusion equation, we extracted the spin diffusion length and coefficient, finding them to be 12 nm and $1.44{\times}10-3cm2/s$, respectively. These small values of magnetoresistance and spin polarization could be enhanced by appeasement of conductivity mismatch between the ferromagnet and semiconductor interface.
MoS$_{2}$ bonded film was applied to reduction gears, and its lubricating properties were experimentally evaluated in terms of the power transmission efficiency and the frictional noise with a dynamo-typed gear test rig. Tests were performed in both oil lubrication and dry condition where the rotating velocity and loading torque were varied. In dry condition, MoS$_{2}$ bonded films effected the power transmission efficiency to increase about 5%, and the frictional noise level to decrease about 6 dB under the test operating conditions. It well proved that MoS$_{2}$ bonded films were a very effective solid lubricant for reduction gears. In oil lubricating conditions, the frictional properties of the coated gears were mainly governed by the lubricating oil, and lubricating effects of MoS2 bonded films were not evident. The result suggested that lubricating effect of MoS$_{2}$ bonded films would be limited to prevent a damage of reduction gears in the initial run when they were used in oil lubrication conditions.
Mo thin films were used for the back electrode because of the low resistivity in the Mo/$CuInGaSe_2$ contact in chalcopyrite solar cells. $1\;{\mu}m$ thick Mo thin films were deposited on soda lime glass by varying the Ar pressure with the dc-magnetron sputtering process. The effects of the Ar pressure on the morphology of the Mo back electrode were studied and the relationships between the morphology and electro-optical properties, namely, the resistivity as well as the reflectance of the Mo thin films, were investigated. The resitivity increased from $24\;{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ to $11833\;{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$; this was caused by the increased surface defect and low crystallinity as the Ar pressure increased from $3{\times}10^{-3}$ to $3{\times}10^{-2}\;Torr$. The surface morphologies of the Mo thin films changed from somewhat coarse fibrous structures to irregular and fine celled structures with increased surface cracks along the cell boundaries, as the Ar pressure increased from $3{\times}10^{-3}$ to $3{\times}10^{-2}\;Torr$. The changes of reflectances in the visible light range with Ar pressures were mainly attributed to the surface morphological changes of the Mo thin films. The reflectance in the visible light range showed the highest value of 45% at $3{\times}10^{-3}\;Torr$ and decreased to 18.5% at $3{\times}10^{-2}\;Torr$.
MoO$_3$thin films were deposited on electrode of alumina substrates in $O_2$atmosphere by RF reactive sputtering using molybdenum metal target. The deposition was performed at 30$0^{\circ}C$ with 350 W of a forward power in an Ar-O$_2$atmosphere. The working pressure was maintained at 3$\times$10$^{-2}$ torr and all deposited films were annealed at 50$0^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours. The surface morphology of films was observed by using a SEM and crystalline phases were analyzed by using a XRD. To investigate gas sensing characteristics of the doped MoO$_3$thin film, Co, Ni and Pt were used as dopants. The sensing properties were investigated in term of gas concentration under exposure of reducing gases such as H$_2$, NH$_3$and CO at optimum working temperature. Co-doped MoO3 thin film shows the maximum 46.8 % of sensitivity in NH$_3$ and Ni-doped MoO$_3$thin film exhibits 49.7 % of sensitivity in H$_2$.
In this study, molybdenum thin films were etched with Cl\ulcorner/(Cl\ulcorner+SF\ulcorner) gas mixing ratio in an magneti-cally enhanced reactive ion etching(MERIE) by the etching parameters such as rf power of 250 watts, chamber pressure of 100 mTorr and B-field of 30 gauss. The etch rate was 150nm/min under Cl\ulcorner/(Cl\ulcorner+SF\ulcorner) gas mixing ratio of 0.25. At this time, the selectivity of Mo to SiO\ulcorner, photoresist were respectively 0.94, 0.05. The surface reaction of the etched Mo thin films was investigated with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). It was analyzed that Mo peaks was mainly observed in Mo-O bonds formed MoO\ulcorner compounds and F was detected in Mo-F and O-F bonds. Cl peaks were detected by the peak of Cl 2p\ulcorner in Cl-Mo bonds of MoCl\ulcorner or MoO\ulcornerCl\ulcorner formulas. Almost all of both Cl and S atoms had been com-bined with Mo, respectively.
$Eu^{3+}$-activated $MgMoO_4$ phosphor thin films were grown at $400^{\circ}C$ on quartz substrates by radio-frequency magnetron sputter deposition from a 15 mol% Eu-doped $MgMoO_4$ target. After the deposition, the phosphor thin films were annealed at several temperatures for 30 min in air. The influence of thermal annealing temperature on the structural and optical properties of $MgMoO_4:Eu^{3+}$ phosphor thin films was investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), photoluminescence (PL), and ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry. The transmittance, optical band gap, and intensities of the luminescence and excitation spectra of the thin films were found to depend on the thermal annealing temperature. The XRD patterns indicated that all the thin films had a monoclinic structure with a main (220) diffraction peak. The highest average transmittance of 91.3% in the wavelength range of 320~1100 nm was obtained for the phosphor thin film annealed at $800^{\circ}C$. At this annealing temperature the optical band gap energy was estimated as 4.83 eV. The emission and excitation spectra exhibited that the $MgMoO_4:Eu^{3+}$ phosphor thin films could be effectively excited by near ultraviolet (281 nm) light, and emitted the dominant 614 nm red light. The results show that increasing RTA temperature can enhance $Eu^{3+}$ emission and excitation intensity.
Surface morphologies and fundamental characteristics of molybdenum nitride films deposited by reactive dc magnetron sputtering were studied for application to Cu diffusion barrier. A phase transformation from Mo to $\gamma$-Mo$_2$N phase at 0.5$N_2$ flow ratio.($N_2$/(Ar+$N_2$)) equal to and larger than 0.2, whereas a second phase transformation to $\gamma$-MoN phase at 0.5 N2 flow ratio, With the variation of the N2 ratio the surface morphologies of the films were generally smooth except the cases of 0.2 and 0.3$N_2$ gas rations, where build-up of film stresses occurred. $\gamma$-Mo$_2$N film was found to crystallize at the deposition temperature of 40$0^{\circ}C$. The surfaces of $\gamma$-Mo$_2$N films deposited up to 40$0^{\circ}C$ were smooth, but the film deposited at 50$0^{\circ}C$ had very rough surface morphology. It seems that this was due to the building-up of thermal stresses at the high deposition temperature, which might lead to hillock formation.

Nb, Mo-doped and Nb/Mo-codoped $VO_2(M)$ nanocrystallites with various doping levels were synthesized for the first time by a hydrothermal and post thermal transformation method. The reversible phase transition characteristics of those doped $VO_2(M)$ was comparatively investigated. Nb-doping of $VO_2(M)$ by this method resulted in a very efficient lowering of the transition temperature ($T_c$) with a rate of $-16.7^{\circ}C/at.%$ that is comparable to W-doping, while Mo-doping did not give a serious reduction of $T_c$ with only a rate of $-5.1^{\circ}C/at.%$. Nb/Mo-codoping gave a similar result to Nb-doping without a noticeable difference. The thin films of Nb-doped and Nb/Mo-codoped $VO_2(M)$ with a thickness of ca. 120 nm were prepared by a wet-coating of the nanoparticle-dispersed solutions. Those films showed a good thermochromic modulation of near infrared radiation with 30-35% for Nb-doped $VO_2(M)$ and 37-40% for Nb/Mo-codoped ones. Nb/Mo-codoped $VO_2(M)$ film showed slightly enhanced thermochromic performance compared with Nb-doped $VO_2(M)$ film.
