  • In order to establish the national standards of neutron measurements, a manganese sulphate ($MnSO_4$) bath system was developed under the IAEA technical support. This bath system was made up of a spherical s.s. 316 L bath, of 3.5 mm thick and of 125 cm internal diagmeter, filled with a manganese sulphate solution, a solution circulating system, and a $^5Mn\;{\gamma}-ray$ monitoring system. The solution pumped from the bath was introduced into a Marinelli beaker-type monitor vessel which was equipped with two seperate detectors, $3.8cm{\phi}{\times}3.8cm$ NaI(T1) crystals. The performance of the system were tested using the neutron sources, $^{241}Am-Be\;and\;^{252}Cf$, mounted at the center of the bath. From the decay curve analysis of $^{56}Mn$ activity, neutron emission rate of $^{252}Cf$ by the comparative method was obtained to be $3.71{\times}10^7\;n/s\;per\;50{mu}g$ as of November 15, 1985.

  • A stoichiometric mixture of evaporating materials for $MnAl_2S_4$ single crystal thin films was prepared from horizontal electric furnace. To obtain the single crystal thin films, $MnAl_2S_4$ mixed crystal was deposited on thoroughly etched semi-insulating GaAs(100) substrate by the Hot Wall Epitaxy (HWE) system. The source and substrate temperatures were $630^{\circ}C$ and $410^{\circ}C$, respectively. The crystalline structure of the single crystal thin films was investigated by the photoluminescence and double crystal X-ray diffraction (DCXD). The temperature dependence of the energy band gap of the $MnAl_2S_4$ obtained from the absorption spectra was well described by the Varshni's relation, $E_g(T)=3.7920eV-5.2729{\times}10^{-4}eV/K)T^2/(T+786 K)$. In order to explore the applicability as a photoconductive cell, we measured the sensitivity (${\gamma}$), the ratio of photocurrent to dark current (pc/dc), maximum allowable power dissipation (MAPD) and response time. The results indicated that the photoconductive characteristic were the best for the samples annealed in S vapour compare with in Mn, Al, air and vacuum vapour. Then we obtained the sensitivity of 0.93, the value of pc/dc of $1.10{\times}10^7$, the MAPD of 316 mW, and the rise and decay time of 14.8 ms and 12.1 ms, respectively.

  • Perpendicular magnetization curves and crystal textures of $[Pd(0.8 nm)/Co(0.8 nm)]_5/FeMn$ multilayers having an exchange-biased perpendicular magnetic anisotropy as a function of FeMn thickness and annealing temperature were measured. As FeMn thickness increases from 0 to 21 nm, the perpendicular exchange biasing field ($H_{ex}$) obtained the maximum value of 130 Oe at FeMn thickness 12 nm. As the annealing temperature increases to $240^{\circ}C$, the Hex increased from 115 Oe to 190 Oe and the exchange-biased perpendicular magnetic anisotropy disappeared at $330^{\circ}C$.

  • Triple layers structure of $SiO_2$/ZnS:Mn/ZnS was synthesized by using ion substitution and chemical precipitation method. Each layer thickness was controlled by adjusting the concentration of manganese (II) acetate ($Mn(CH_3COO)_2$) and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS). The structure and morphology of prepared phosphors were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electron probe microscopic analyzer (EPMA). Photoluminescence (PL) properties of ZnS with different layer thickness and amount of Mn activator were analyzed by PL spectrometer. PL emission intensity and PL stability were analyzed for evaluating effects of Mn activator.

  • Biogeochemical characteristics involving redox processes in groundwater from a riverine alluvial aquifer was investigated using multi-level monitoring wells (up to 30m in depth). Anaerobic conditions were predominant and high Fe ($14{\sim}37mg/L$) and Mn ($1{\sim}4mg/L$) concentrations were observed at 10 to 20 m in depth. Below 20 m depth, dissolved sulfide was detected. Presumably, these high Fe and Mn concentrations were derived from the reduction of Fe- and Mn-oxides because dissolved oxygen and nitrate were nearly absent and Fe and Mn contents were considerable in the sediments. The depth range of high Mn concentration is wider than that of high Fe concentration. Dissolved organics may be derived from the upper layers. Sulfate reduction is more active than Fe and Mn reduction below 20 m in depth. Disparity of calculated redox potential from the various redox couples indicates that redox states are in disequilibrium condition in groundwater. Carbonate minerals such as siderite and rhodochrosite may control the dissolved concentrations of Fe(II) and Mn(II), and iron sulfide minerals control for Fe(II) where sulfide is detected because these minerals are near saturation from the calculation of solubility equilibria.

  • We have solved a problem occurring in case that RSVP is applied to existing wired network in order to guarantee a QoS of multimedia traffic in mobile computing environment in this paper. If MN moves to another area when Mobile IP is applied to RSVP, HA makes new tunnel to FA because SESSION ID of MN is changed. However, we suggest MIP-DUDN method, which applied RSVP. Although MN moves to another area in this method, it does not make new tunnel because it eliminates the problem of existing Triangle Routing Problem. We design the new protocol of RMIP-DUDN and compare with the method of existing Mobile IP applied to RSVP.

  • $La_{0.5}Ca_{0.5}MnO_3$ colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) powders and pellets were synthesized by sol-gel process. The structural changes were investigated by FT-IR, CP/MAS $^{13}C$ solid state NMR spectroscopy and XRD. The particle characterization, microstructure of sintered samples, and cation composition of gel powders were studied by FE-SEM/EDS, TEM and ICP-AES. The structure refinement reveals that $La_{0.5}Ca_{0.5}MnO_3$ has orthorhombic, perovskite type unit cell. The magnetic characterizations were identified through measurement of magnetic moment by VSM.

  • Three new cyanide-bridged $Cr^{III}Mn^{II}$ binuclear complexes, $[Mn(phen)_2Cl][Cr(bpmb)(CN)_2]{\cdot}H_2O$ ($\mathbf{1}$) (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, $bpdmb^{2-}$ = 1,2-bis(pyridine-2-carboxamido)-4-methyl-benzenate), $[Mn(phen)_2Cl][Cr(bpmb)-(CN)_2]{\cdot}H_2O$ ($\mathbf{2}$) ($bpdmb^{2-}$ = 1,2-bis(pyridine-2-carboxamido)-4,5-dimethyl-benzenate), and $[Mn(phen)_2Cl]-[Cr(bpClb)(CN)_2]{\cdot}CH_3OH{\cdot}H_2O$ ($\mathbf{3}$) ($bpClb^{2-}$ = 1,2-bis(pyridine-2-carboxamido)-4-chloro-benzenate) were obtained based on $Mn(phen)_2Cl_2$ and a series of dicyanidechromate(III) building blocks. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis shows the structures of the three complexes are dimeric type with two different metal centers linked by a cyanide group from corresponding dicyanidechromate(III) building block. Magnetic investigations indicate the existence of relatively weak antiferromagnetic coupling between Cr(III) and Mn(II) ions with best-fit constants $J_{CrMn}=-2.78(5)cm^{-1}$ for $\mathbf{1}$, $J_{CrMn}=-3.02(2)cm^{-1}$ for $\mathbf{2}$ and $J_{CrMn}=-2.27(3)cm^{-1}$ for $\mathbf{3}$ based on the spin exchange Hamiltonian = $-2J_{CrMn}\hat{S}_{Cr}\hat{S}_{Mn}$. The magneto-structural correlation of cyanide-bridged $Cr^{III}Mn^{II}$ complexes has been discussed at last.

  • $LiMnBO_3$ was successfully synthesized by a solid-state reaction method both with and without a carbon coating. Adipic acid was used as source material for the carbon coating. $LiMnBO_3$ was composed of many small polycrystalline particles with a size of about 50 - 70 nm, which showed a very even particle morphology and highly ordered crystalline particulates. Whereas the carbon coated $LiMnBO_3$ was well covered by mat-like, fine material consisting of amorphous carbon derived from the carbonization of adipic acid during the synthetic process. Carbon coated cell exhibited improved and stable discharge capacity profile over the untreated. Two cells delivered an initial discharge capacity of 111 and 58 mAh/g for $LiMnBO_3$/C and $LiMnBO_3$, respectively. Carbon coating on the surface of the $LiMnBO_3$ drastically improved discharge capacity due to the improved electric conductivity in the $LiMnBO_3$ material.

  • This pot experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of systematic variation application of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn on forage performance of orchardgrass and white clover. The treatments of systematic variation were 0/100, 25/75, 50/50, 75/25, and $100/0\%$ in the Fe/Cu(trial-1), Mn/Zn(trial-2), and Fe+Cu/Mn+Zn(trial-3), respectively. The treatments of Fe/Mn/Cu/Zn(trial-4) were composed of $70\%$ in main element and $10\%$ in other 3 elements, respectively. 1. By the systematic variations of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn, the yields were more significantly influenced in white clover than in orchardgrass. In addition, the yields of white clover were closely correlated to the trends of root/nodule growth and flowering. In the Fe/Cu trial, the relatively high yields were obtained at the $100/0\%$ in orchardgrass and at the $75/25\%$ in white clover. The yields of white clover were more negatively influenced by the 100/0(Cu control) than by the 0/100(Fe control). The yields of orchardgrass, however, tended to be opposite to the above trends. 2. In the Mn/Zn trial, both forages showed generally high yields at the high ratios of Mn/Zn. Compared with orchardgrass, the yields of white clover were greatly decreased by the Mn-deficiency(low ratio of Mn/Zn). The effects of Zn on forage yields, however, were not recognized. 3. In the Fe+Cu/Mn+Zn trial, the yields of orchardgrass tended to be slightly different among the treatments. The yields of white clover, however, were relatively' high at the 75/25, and showed a severe decrease at the 100/0 in the 2nd half cuts. In the Fe/Mn/Cu/Zn trial, the yields of white clover tended to be relatively high at the Cu and Zn treatments. It was likely to be caused by the balanced Fe/Mn ratio.
