극박 3%규소강에서 Mn이 황의 편석 거동 및 자성특성에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Mn on Sulfur Segregation and Magnetic Induction in Thin-gauged 3%Si-Fe Strip)

  • Effects of addition of manganese and final reduction on segregation behavior of sulfur and final mangetic induction during final annealing have been investigated in the 300 ppm sulfur-contained 3% silicon-iron alloy strips with or without manganese. At the same concentration of sulfur, lower final reduction is favorable for final Goss texture. This is because the probability that the initial Goss grains survive under the highly segregated sulfur atmosphere and grow selectively within the segregated sulfur-free time range becomes higher. In the case of 3% silicon-iron with manganese, much lower magnetic induction was obtained, although the weak final reduction of 30% is given to the alloy, comparative to the 40%. This is because MnS particles acted as an reducer in the primary grain size.

  • 고체전해질형 연료전지용 전해질로 사용되는 8mol% YSZ($Y_2O_3$ stabilized zirconia)의 소결조건을 변화시켜 이온전도도를 측정하였다. 그 결과 소결조건이 $1400^{\circ}C$, 10시간이었을 때 가장 높은 값인 $10^{-1}S.cm^{-1}$를 나타내었다. 또한 산소극재료로서 $La_{1-x}Sr_xMnO_3$($0{\leq}{\times}{\leq}1$)를 고상반응법으로 제조하여 과전압, 전자 전도도, 전해질인 YSZ와의 계면저항등을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 La에 대한 Sr의 치환량이 50mol%일 때 가장 우수한 특성을 나타내었다.

  • One problem in giant magnetoresistance(GMR) spin valves and magnetic tunneling junctions(MTJ) exchange biased by Mn-based antiferromagnets is the Mn diffusion into the ferromagnetic layer and other layers upon annealing.$^{1-3}$ It seems that Mn diffusion that may occur during annealing has a key role in the exchange biasing. We have fabricated multilayers inserting the nanolayer(NL) between antiferromagnet and ferromagent using ion-beam deposition system to study the diffusion effect for the exchange bias. (omitted)

The Magnetic Entropy Change on La0.7Ba0.3Mn1-xFexO3 Compound

  • The magnetocaloric effect and magnetization behavior have been analyzed in the double-perovskite $La_{0.7}Ba_{0.3}Mn_{1-X}Fe_XO_3$ compound with the sintering temperature at 1273 K. Samples were fabricated by the conventional solid-state reaction method. X-ray diffraction measurement revealed that all the samples had a single phase in orthorhombic. Detailed investigations of the magnetic entropy behavior of the samples were discussed with the variation of $T_C$. The magnetic entropy changes, ${\Delta}S_M$ of approximately 0.36-1.14 J/kg K were obtained in the temperature range of 145-350 K for the $La_{0.7}Ba_{0.3}Mn_{1-X}Fe_XO_3$ compound. The enhancement of the magnetic entropy change is believed to be due to changes in the microstructure, which changes the magnetic part of the entropy of a solid around the magnetic ordering temperature.

Electrodeposited Nano-flakes of Manganese Oxide on Macroporous Ni Electrode Exhibiting High Pseudocapacitance

  • A porous nickel (P-Ni) substrate was prepared by selective leaching of zinc from pressed pellets containing powders of Ni & Zn in 4 M NaOH solution. Anodic deposition of manganese oxide onto the porous Ni substrate ($MnO_x$/P-Ni) formed nano-flakes of manganese oxide layers as revealed in SEM studies. Pseudocapacitance of this oxide electrode was evaluated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and chronopotentiometry (CHP) in 2 M NaOH solution. The specific capacitance of the Mn oxide electrode was as high as 1515 F $g^{-1}$, which was ten times higher than Mn oxide deposited on a flat Ni-ribbon. 80% of capacity was retained after 200 charge/discharge cycles. The system showed no loss of activity in dry form over period of days. The impedance studies indicated highly conducting $MnO_x$/P-Ni substance and the obtained specific capacitance from impedance data showed good agreement with the charge/discharge measurements.

  • III- V ferromagnetic semiconductor has attracted great attention as a potential application for spintronics due to a successful demonstration of spin injection from ferromagnetic GaNnAs into semiconductor. GaMnN may be one of the possible candidates for room temperature operation. Samples were grown on sapphire (0001) substrate at $650^{\circ}C$ via molecular beam epitaxy with a single Precursor of (Et$_2$Ga(N$_3$)NH$_2$$CH_3$) and solid source of Mn at different Mn source temperature. The background pressure is low 10$^{-10}$ Torr and the samples growth pressure was 1.4 $\times$ 10$^{-6}$ Torr.

Different Association of Manganese Superoxide Dismutase Gene Polymorphisms with Risk of Prostate, Esophageal, and Lung Cancers: Evidence from a Meta-analysis of 20,025 Subjects

  • Altered expression or function of manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD) has been shown to be associated with cancer risk but assessment of gene polymorphisms has resulted in inconclusive data. Here a search of published data was made and 22 studies were recruited, covering 20,025 case and control subjects, for meta-analyses of the association of MnSOD polymorphisms with the risk of prostate, esophageal, and lung cancers. The data on 12 studies of prostate cancer (including 4,182 cases and 6,885 controls) showed a statistically significant association with the risk of development in co-dominant models and dominant models, but not in the recessive model. Subgroup analysis showed there was no statistically significant association of MnSOD polymorphisms with aggressive or nonaggressive prostate cancer in different genetic models. In addition, the data on four studies of esophageal cancer containing 620 cases and 909 controls showed a statistically significant association between MnSOD polymorphisms and risk in all comparison models. In contrast, the data on six studies of lung cancer with 3,375 cases and 4,050 controls showed that MnSOD polymorphisms were significantly associated with the decreased risk of lung cancer in the homozygote and dominant models, but not the heterozygote model. A subgroup analysis of the combination of MnSOD polymorphisms with tobacco smokers did not show any significant association with lung cancer risk, histological type, or clinical stage of lung cancer. The data from the current study indicated that the Ala allele MnSOD polymorphism is associated with increased risk of prostate and esophageal cancers, but with decreased risk of lung cancer. The underlying molecular mechanisms warrant further investigation.

난소절제 쥐에서 칼슘섭취수준에 따른 망간의 보충이 골격상태 및 칼슘평형에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Manganese Supplementation on Bone Status and Calcium Balance in Ovariectomized Rats according to the Calcium Intake Levels)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of manganese (Mn) supplementation on bone status and calcium balance in ovariectomized rats according to the calcium intake levels. Total of 50 Sprague Dawley female rats (6 weeks) were divided into 5 groups and bred for 12 weeks: sham operated control group (SACa), OVX Ca deficiency group (OLCa) with Ca deficiency diet (0.1% Ca modified AIN-93N diet), OVX Ca deficiency & Mn supplement group (OLCaMn), OVX adequate Ca group (OACa; 0.5% Ca AIN-93N diet) and OVX adequate Ca & Mn supplement group (OACaMn). BMD (bone mineral density) of the femur was increased by Mn supplementation in OVX adequate Ca group. However, BMDs of spine, femur and tibia were lowered in OLCa compared to the OLCaMn group. Bone strength of tibia in OLCaMn group was significantly lower than OLCa group. Serum ALP (alkaline phosphatase) and CTx (C-telopeptide of collagen cross-links) levels were significantly higher in ovariectomized rats than those in the sham group, but they were not changed by Mn supplementation. Ca retention rate and Ca absorption rate did not differ among the experimental groups. Urinary Ca excretion was increased by Mn supplementation in Ca deficiency rats. In summary, Mn supplementation resulted in positive effects on bone mineral density ovariectomized rats with which intake adequate Ca. However, Mn supplementation on Ca deficiency ovariectomized rats resulted in decrement of BMO and bone strength by increasing Ca excretion. Therefore, it is encouraged to consider calcium intake levels in supplementation of manganese in order to prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis and to keep bone healthy. F344 rats를 이용 망간 및 철 화합물의 체내 흡수와 생식기 및 운동성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Mn and Fe Compound on the Absorption in the Body and Genital Organs, Activity with F344 Rats)

  • This study aimed to examine the harmful effects of Mn and Fe, which may be generated as dust or fume in the industrial sites, on the body and genital organs by their inhalation. It is intended to find the characteristics and differences of the hazardousness by inhaling a single and the mixed materials of Mn and Fe. Male F344 rats were divided into the control group and 3 exposed groups on the basis of the test material compound (Mn $1.5mg/m^3$, Mn 1.5 and Fe $3.0mg/m^3$, Fe $3.0mg/m^3$). The 4 groups were divided into 4 subgroups again on the basis of the exposure period (4 and 13 weeks) and the recovery period (4 and 13 weeks). The exposure condition was 6 hours a day, 5 days a week for the whole body. Clinical tests including changes in weight and feed rate, blood biochemical test, motility change, changes in the number and the amount of spermatozoon (sperm count), daily sperm production (DSP), deformity test of spermatozoon and changes in the accumulation of Mn and Fe in blood and internal organs were performed. Motility was reduced by Mn exposure. Especially, the effect of Mn was exposure period responsible. By mixing with Fe, no significant change in motility Mn and Fe accumulation in organs was observed. Sperm count and daily sperm production (DSP) were decreased by Mn. Additional effect like the reduction of sperm count and DSP, and delayed restoration of sperm count and DSP during the recovery period were observed in the mixed exposure group. These results indicate that Mn and Fe may affect the motility reduced and has male reproductive toxicity. Mixed exposure of Mn and Fe lead to synergic effects on the male reproductive toxicity.

  • 기판온도, 박막조성 및 증착후 열처리 등의 조건에 따른 ${La_{1-x}}{Sr_x}{MnO_{3-{\delta}}}$(0.19$\leq$x$\leq$0.31) 박막의 결절구조와 전기전도 특성을 조사하였다. 스퍼터법을 이용하여 $500^{\circ}C$에서 증착된 박막은 강한 <001> 우선배향성과 유사정방정(pseudo-tetrag-onal, a/c-=0.97) 결정체를 나타냈다. 이러한 박막의 단위포는 산소분위기 내에서 증착후 열처리에 의하여 입장정 결정계로 변하였다. $La_{0.67}Sr_{0.33}MnO_3$ 조성의 주타겟과 $La_{0.3}Sr_{0.7}MnO_3$조성의 보조타겟을 동시에 이용하여 박막의 조성을 조절하였다. 보조타겟의 개수에 따라 박막내의 Sr 함량(x)은 0.19-0.31 범위의 값을 나타내었으며, x값이 0.19로부터 0.31로 증가시 금소-반도체의 전이 온도가 상승하였고, 전지비저항이 대체로 감소하였다. 0.18 T의 자기장 하에서, $La_{0.69}Sr_{0.31}MnO_3$조성의 박막의 자기저항변화 MR((%) = (${\rho}_o-{\rho}_H/{\rho}_H$)는 약 390% 이었다.
