Hot-firing tests were carried out using a mixing head with 19 swirl coaxial injectors and a combustion chamber with internal cooling channels. The propellants of liquid oxygen and kerosene(Jet A-1) were burned in a range of chamber pressures (59~82 bar) and mixture ratios (2.0~3.0). The temperature of water used as the cooling fluid was measured at the inlet and outlet of the cooling channels, and the heat flux was calculated. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of combustion instability on heat transfer in a subscale thrust chamber, and detect the temperature variation of cooling water. During several hot-firing tests, combustion instability was encountered which caused a 5~20% increase in heat flux. The peak heat flux took place in the initial stages of combustion instability.
This study was performed to investigate effect of dietary fibers in rice and barley on glucose, lipid and cadmium (Cd) metabolism in the rat. Fifty-six male Spague-Dawley rats weighing 244.6$\pm$2.7g were blocked into eight groups according to body weight and raised for four weeks with diets containing 0 or 0.04%(w/w) CdCl2 and four different carbohydrate sources, starch, rice flour, barley flour and mixture of rice and barley flour(7 : 3, w/w). Total dietary fibers and $\beta$-glucan contents of barley were about three times higher than those of rice (10.75% vs. 3.94%, 3.11% vs. 1.06%, respectively). Food intake, weight gain, food efficiency ratio, liver and kidney weights were lower in Cd exposed groups, and barley group among Cd exposed animals showed highest weight gain, food efficiency ratio and organ weights. Fasting serum glucose levels were not significantly different among groups, Serum cholesterol level was lowest in Cd exposed barley group. Serum HDL-cholesterol level was higher in none-Cd exposed starch and barley groups, and HDL-cholesterol : total cholesterol ratios were higher in none-Cd rice and mixed flour groups than other groups. Liver total lipid and triglyceride levels were lowest in barley groups regardless of Cd administration. Fecal total lipid, cholesterol and triglyceride excretions were high in barley and mixed flour groups. Liver Cd concentrations were low in Cd exposed barley and mixed flour groups. In Cd exposed barley group, fecal weight and Cd excretion were highest and Cd retention ratio was lowest among groups. Small intestine metallothionein(MT) concentration was highest in Cd exposed rice group, and kidney MT concentration was highest in Cd exposed barley group. In conclusion, cereals showed different effects on lipid and Cd metabolism that might be mediated by dietary fibers in cereals. Especially $\beta$-glucan-rich barley group showed greatest lipid and Cd lowering effects by increasing fecal lipids and Cd excretions.
Applying acrylic silane monomer for determent of weathering damage of stone cultural assets from various sources was investigated to improve inorganic affinity of polymer impregnated to the stone for conservation treatment using impregnation of acrylic polymers under pressure. Radical polymerization was carried out with various mixture ratios of methacrylate (MMA), as the base monomer, and vinyl trimethoxy silane (VTMS). Subsequently, according to the changes of glass transition temperatures, average molecular weights, and storage moduli of the obtained copolymers, the case of adding 1 wt% of benzoyl peroxide, polymerization for 8 hrs, and mixing 5 mol% of VTMS to MMA was the optimum condition of monomer ratio and polymerization. Practically, fresh granites collected in domestic site and weathered stones were treated by following the obtained result above, and then, the moisture absorption, impact, acid resistance, and adhesion properties of the treated stones were compared to those of the corresponding stones treated with MMA only. It was found that those properties of the stones treated with PMV5 were considerably improved.
Allelopathic activity of rotation crop residues to common weeds and selectivity of crops were studied for developing an alternative weed control strategy in upland organic farming. All rotation crop residues with various ratios suppressed weed growth, but the growth of crop species stimulated a little when those were grown with the mixture of rotation crop residues except a few crop species. Among the rotation crop residues used in this study hairy vetch was the most effective, followed by Chinese milkvetch, barley and rye in suppression of weed growth. The 90:10 (crop:soil, v/v) treatments incorporation rate of crop residues such as hairy vetch and Chinese milkvetch suppressed completely the growth of all weed species tested in this study. The effect of crop residues on suppression of weed growth reduced to 90% when the incorporation rates decreased to 60% [60:40 (crop:soil, v/v). It was noticed that broadleaf weed species were more susceptible to rotation crop residues than grass weed species. In the influence of crop residues on the crop growth, no growth inhibition was found in red pepper, lettuce and perllia at any incorporation rates, but tomato, cucumber and corn were slightly inhibited in a few cases at their highest incorporation levels. This study demonstrated that rotation crop residues especially hairy vetch and Chinese milkvetch have high herbicidal effects against weeds without inhibiting the growth of crop species.
To compare the composting characteristics of food waste supplemented with various bulking agents, aerated composting was performed by mixing sawdust, ginkgo leaves, insect feces, and mushroom waste at ratios of 6 : 4 (w/w). The initial temperatures (day after treatment [DAT] 3) of the sawdust, ginkgo leaves, insect feces and the mushroom waste mixtures were 39, 58, 65, and 51℃, respectively. The DAT 3 temperature was the highest in the food waste-insect feces mixture (65℃) and the lowest in the sawdust one (39℃). However, the insect feces treatment was terminated at DAT 21 because of a high water content (70.92%). The water content (DAT 56) of the composted food waste supplemented with sawdust, mushroom waste, and ginkgo leaves stood at 51.28, 39.81, and 44.92%, respectively. Therefore, the fully mature composts satisfied the water content requirement of less than 55% as recommended in the fertilizer standards of the RDA of Korea. The results of the CoMMe-101, Solvita and seed germination index methods indicate that the mushroom waste and ginkgo leaves treatments matured relatively quicker than that of the sawdust one. Based on the above observations, it is concluded that the mushroom waste and ginkgo leaves are more effective bulking agents compared to sawdust and as such, are recommended as suitable replacements for sawdust in food waste composting.

Organic wastes such as food waste (FW), livestock wastewater (LW), and sewage sludge (SWS) can produce hydrogen ($H_2$) by anaerobic acid fermentation. Expecially, FW which has high carbohydrate content produces $H_2$ and short chain fatty acids by indigenous $H_2$ producing microorganisms without adding inoculum, however $H_2$ production rate (HPR) and yield have to be improved to use a commercially available technology. In this study, LW was mixed to FW in different ratios (on chemical oxygen demand (COD) basis) as an auxiliary substrate. The mixture of FW and LW was pretreated at pH 2 using 6 N HCl for 12 h and then fermented at $37^{\circ}C$ for 28 h. HPR of FW, 254 mL $H_2/L/h$, was increased with the addition of LW, however, mixing ratio of LW to FW was reversely related to HPR, exhibiting HPR of 737, 733, 599, and 389 mL $H_2/L/h$ at the ratio of FW:LW=10:1, 10:2, 10:3, and 10:4 on COD basis, respectively. Maximum HPR and $H_2$ production yield of 737 $H_2/L/h$ and 1.74 mol $H_2/mol$ hexoseadded were obtained respectively at the ratio of FW:LW=10:1. Butyrate was the main organic acid produced and propionate was not detected throughout the experiment.
Core-shell structured $Fe_3O_4/graphene$ composites were synthesized by aerosol spray drying process from a colloidal mixture of graphene oxides and $Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticles. The structural and electrochemical performance of $Fe_3O_4/graphene$ were characterized by the field-emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and galvanometric discharge-charge method. Core-shell structured $Fe_3O_4/GR$ composites were synthesized in different mass ratios of $Fe_3O_4$ and graphene oxide. The composite particles were around $3{\mu}m$ in size. $Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticles were encapsulated with a graphene. Morphology of the $Fe_3O_4/graphene$ composite particles changed from a spherical ball having a relatively smooth surface to a porous crumpled paper ball as the content of GO increased in the composites. The $Fe_3O_4/GR$ composite fabricated at the weight ratio of 1:4 ($Fe_3O_4:GO$) exhibited higher specific capacitance($203F\;g^{-1}$) and electrical conductivity than as-fabricated $Fe_3O_4/GR$ composite.

As super.high.strength concrete uses a large amount of binder, there is an autogenous shrinkage strain larger than dry shrinkage and it degrades the quality of structures. Thus, we need a technology to minimize the shrinkage strain of super.high.strength concrete. Accordingly, the present study prepared super.high strength concrete with design strength of over 80MPa and, using an embedded gauge, measured the shrinkage strain of free shrinkage specimens for super.high.strength concrete containing expansion agent. According to the results of this study, the expansion rate of concrete increased in the early stage due to the admixture of expansion agent, but the shrinkage rate went down with the lapse of time. The effect of the admixture of expansion agent on compressive strength appeared insignificant. Further research shall be made on different kinds of expansion agents and various mixture ratios for basic analysis to reduce autogenous shrinkage of super.high.strength concrete.

A manufacturing method has been devised to prepare novel heterogeneous cation exchange membranes by mixing ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymers with a commercial cation exchange resin. Optimum material characteristics, mixture ratios and manufacturing conditions have been worked out for achieving favorable membrane performance. Ion exchange capacity, electrical resistance, water uptake, swelling ratio and tensile strength properties were measured. SEM analysis was used to monitor morphology. Effects of vinyl acetate (VA) content, melt index (MI) and ion exchange resin content on properties of heterogeneous cation exchange membranes have been discussed. An application test was carried out by mounting a selected membrane in a membrane capacitive deionization (MCDI) system to investigate its desalination capability. 0.92 meq/g of ion exchange capacity, $8.7{\Omega}.cm^2$ of electrical resistance, $40kgf/cm^2$ of tensile strength, 19% of swelling ratio, 42% of water uptake, and 56.4% salt removal rate were achieved at best. VA content plays a leading role on the extent of physical properties and performance; however, MI is important for having uniform distribution of resin grains and achieving better ionic conductivity. Overall, manufacturing cost has been suppressed to 5-10% of that of homogeneous ion exchange membranes.
A series of $CeO_2-TiO_2$ composite samples with different Ce/Ti molar ratios were prepared by the paper template. Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to confirm a face-centered cubic lattice of $CeO_2$ with Ce/Ti =8:2 or 9:1 and a two phase mixture of anatase titania and face-centered cubic ceria with Ce/Ti = 7 : 3. The field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) results suggest that the products are micron braid structures consisting of fibers with diameters in a range of $1-6{\mu}m$ and lengths of several hundred micrometers. $N_2$ absorption-desorption testing shows that the composite at Ce/Ti molar fraction of 8 : 2 has the largest BET surface area (about $81m^2{\cdot}g^{-1}$). Compared to the pure $CeO_2$ sample, the composites show superior catalytic activity for $H_2$ reduction and CO oxidation. For the micron braid structure $CeO_2-TiO_2$ composite (Ce/Ti = 8 : 2), due to the high surface area and the solid solution with appropriate $Ti^{4+}$ incorporation, the CO conversion at about $280^{\circ}C$ was above 50% and at $400^{\circ}C$ was 100%.
