  • This paper considers the ability of counting and positioning multi-targets by using a mobile UWB radar device. After a background subtraction process, distinguishing between clutters and human body signals, the position of targets will be computed using weighted Gaussian mixture methods. While computer vision offers many advantages, it has limited performance in poor visibility conditions (e.g., at night, haze, fog or smoke). UWB radar can provide a complementary technology for detecting and tracking humans, particularly in poor visibility or through-wall conditions. As we know, for 2D measurement, one method is the use of at least two receiver antennas. Another method is the use of one mobile radar receiver. This paper tried to investigate the position detection of the stationary human body using the movement of one UWB radar module.

  • Based on the capture-emission energy (CEE) maps of CMOS devices, a physics-informed machine learning model for the bias temperature instability (BTI)-induced threshold voltage shifts and low frequency noise is presented. In order to incorporate physics theories into the machine learning model, the integration of artificial neural network (IANN) is employed for the computation of the threshold voltage shifts and low frequency noise. The model combines the computational efficiency of IANN with the optimal estimation of Gaussian mixture model (GMM) with soft clustering. It enables full lifetime prediction of BTI under various stress and recovery conditions and provides accurate prediction of the dynamic behavior of the original measured data.

  • We propose a novel neuro-fuzzy system based on an efficient clustering method. It is a very useful method that improves the performance of a fuzzy model with small number of fuzzy rules. The fuzzy clustering methods are studied in the wide range of fuzzy modeling. One of them, the grid partition method has problem of exponentially increasing number of rules when the dimension of input or number of membership function is linearly increased. On the other hand, the Expectation Maximization algorithm is an efficient estimation for unknown parameters of the Gaussian mixture model. Here it is noted that the parameters can be used for fuzzy clustering method. In a fuzzy modeling, it is desired that...

  • This paper proposed a method that detects emergency situations in a video stream using MHI (Motion History Image) and template matching for a video-based intelligent security system. The proposed method creates a MHI of each human object through image processing technique such as background removing based on GMM (Gaussian Mixture Model), labeling and accumulating the foreground images, then the obtained MHI is compared with the existing MHI templates for detecting an emergency situation. To evaluate the proposed emergency detection method, a set of experiments on the dataset of video clips captured from a security camera has been conducted. And we successfully detected emergency situations using the proposed method. In addition, the implemented system also provides MMS (Multimedia Message Service) so that a security manager can deal with the emergency situation appropriately.

  • It has been known that GMM (Gaussian Mixture Model) based speaker identification systems using ML (Maximum Likelihood) and WMR (Weighting Model Rank) demonstrate very high performances. However, such systems are not so effective under practical environments, in terms of real time processing, because of their high calculation costs. In this paper, we propose a new speaker-pruning algorithm that effectively reduces the calculation cost. In this algorithm, we select 20% of speaker models having higher likelihood with a part of input speech and apply MWMR (Modified Weighted Model Rank) to these selected speaker models to find out identified speaker. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, we performed speaker identification experiments using TIMIT database. The proposed method shows more than 60% improvement of reduced processing time than the conventional GMM based system with no pruning, while maintaining the recognition accuracy.

  • Terrain reconstruction from images is an ill-posed, yet commonly desired Structure from Motion task when compositing visual effects into live-action photography. These surfaces are required for choreography of a scene, casting physically accurate shadows of CG elements, and occlusions. We present a novel framework for generating the geometry of landscapes from extremely noisy point cloud datasets obtained via limited resolution techniques, particularly optical flow based vision algorithms applied to live-action video plates. Our contribution is a new statistical approach to remove erroneous tracks ('outliers') by employing a unique combination of well established techniques-including Gaussian Mixture Models (GMMs) for robust parameter estimation and Radial Basis Functions (REFs) for scattered data interpolation-to exploit the natural constraints of this problem. Our algorithm offsets the tremendously laborious task of modeling these landscapes by hand, automatically generating a visually consistent, camera position dependent, thin-shell surface mesh within seconds for a typical tracking shot.

  • Nowadays, mel-frequency cesptral coefficients (MFCCs) and Gaussian mixture models (GMMs) are used for the pathological voice detection. This paper suggests a method to improve the performance of the pathological/normal voice classification based on the MFCC-based GMM. We analyze the characteristics of the mel frequency-based filterbank energies using the fisher discriminant ratio (FDR). And the feature vectors through the linear discriminant analysis (LDA) transformation of the filterbank energies (FBE) and the MFCCs are implemented. An accuracy is measured by the GMM classifier. This paper shows that the FBE LDA-based GMM is a sufficiently distinct method for the pathological/normal voice classification, with a 96.6% classification performance rate. The proposed method shows better performance than the MFCC-based GMM with noticeable improvement of 54.05% in terms of error reduction.

  • The so-called curse of dimensionality arises when Gaussian mixture is used on high-dimensional small-sample-size data, since the number of free elements that needs to be specied in each covariance matrix of Gaussian mixture increases exponentially with the number of dimension d. In this paper, by constraining the covariance matrix in its decomposed orthonormal form we get a local PCA model so as to reduce the number of free elements needed to be specified. Moreover, to cope with the small sample size problem, we adopt BYY data smoothing learning which is a regularization over maximum likelihood learning obtained from BYY harmony learning to implement this local PCA model.

  • The purpose of this study is to find suitable probability distribution function of complex distribution data like multimodal. Normal distribution is broadly used to assume probability distribution function. However, complex distribution data like multimodal are very hard to be estimated by using normal distribution function only, and there might be errors when other distribution functions including normal distribution function are used. In this study, we experimented to find fit probability distribution function in multimodal area, by using AIS(Automatic Identification System) observation data gathered in Mokpo port for a year of 2013. By using chi-squared statistic, gaussian mixture model(GMM) is the fittest model rather than other distribution functions, such as extreme value, generalized extreme value, logistic, and normal distribution. GMM was found to the fit model regard to multimodal data of maritime traffic flow distribution. Probability density function for collision probability and traffic flow distribution will be calculated much precisely in the future.
