  • The moving object tracking in vision based observation using video uses difference method between GMM(Gaussian Mixture Model) based background and present image. In the case of racking object using binary image made by threshold, the object is merged not by object information but by Cast-Shadow. This paper proposed the method that eliminates Cast-Shadow using backpropagation Neural Network. The neural network is trained by abstracting feature value form training image of object range in 10-movies and Cast-Shadow range. The method eliminating Cast-Shadow is based on the method distinguishing shadow from binary image, its Performance is better(16.2%, 38.2%, 28.1%, 22.3%, 44.4%) than existing Cast-Shadow elimination algorithm(SNP, SP, DNM1, DNM2, CNCC).

  • Affective computing plays an important role in intelligent Human Computer Interactions(HCI). To detect emotional events, it is desirable to construct a computing model for extracting emotion related features from video. In this paper, we propose a statistical model based on the probabilistic distribution of low level features in video shots. The proposed method extracts low level features from video shots and then from a GMM(Gaussian Mixture Model) for them to detect emotional shots. As low level features, we use color, camera motion and sequence of shot lengths. The features can be modeled as a GMM by using EM(Expectation Maximization) algorithm and the relations between time and emotions are estimated by MLE(Maximum Likelihood Estimation). Finally, the two statistical models are combined together using Bayesian framework to detect emotional events in video.

  • In this paper, we propose a system which can detect the flame in real time from the high-quality IP camera. First, open directly the RTSP streams transmitted from the IP camera using the library FFmpeg as opening a video file. The second thing is to extract the background images from video signal using Gaussian mixture model. Then the foreground images are obtained through subtracting operation between the input image and the background image. Separated foreground image through a mathematical morphology operation are considered as candidate area. By analysing colour information and dynamic characteristics of the candidate area, flame is determined finally. Through the experiments with input videos from IP camera, the proposed algorithms were useful to detect flames.

  • This paper suggests the robust method of extraction for moving objects in illumination variation by using image sequence from an immovable camera. The most difficult part of the implication is the effect by illumination and noise. The object area is hardly estimated when the dusky area occurs in illumination variation by time change. This thesis describes the extraction of moving objects employed by Gaussian mixture model which is noise robust measure. Also, the report suggests the elimination method of illumination part in input image by the representative illumination image which is defined to minimize the illumination influence.

  • In this paper, the time series based damage detection algorithms developed by Nair, et al. (2006) and Nair and Kiremidjian (2007) are applied to the benchmark experimental data from the National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE) in Taipei, Taiwan. Both acceleration and strain data are analyzed. The data are modeled as autoregressive (AR) processes, and damage sensitive features (DSF) and feature vectors are defined in terms of the first three AR coefficients. In the first algorithm developed by Nair, et al. (2006), hypothesis tests using the t-statistic are applied to evaluate the damaged state. A damage measure (DM) is defined to measure the damage extent. The results show that the DSF's from the acceleration data can detect damage while the DSF from the strain data can be used to localize the damage. The DM can be used for damage quantification. In the second algorithm developed by Nair and Kiremidjian (2007) a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) is used to model the feature vector, and the Mahalanobis distance is defined to measure damage extent. Additional distance measures are defined and applied in this paper to quantify damage. The results show that damage measures can be used to detect, quantify, and localize the damage for the high intensity and the bidirectional loading cases.

  • In this paper, a VoIP-based voice secure telecommunication technology using the text-independent speaker authentication in the telematics environments is proposed. For the secure telecommunication, the sender's voice packets are encrypted by the public-key generated from the speaker's voice information and submitted to the receiver. It is constructed to resist against the man-in-the middle attack. At the receiver side, voice features extracted from the received voice packets are compared with the reference voice-key received from the sender side for the speaker authentication. To improve the accuracy of text-independent speaker authentication, Gaussian Mixture Model(GMM)-supervectors are applied to Support Vector Machine (SVM) kernel using Bayesian information criterion (BIC) and Mahalanobis distance (MD).

  • Background extraction is an important technique to find the moving objects in video surveillance system. This paper proposes a new on-line background extraction method for color video using vector order statistics. In the proposed method, using the fact that background occurs more frequently than objects, the vector median of color pixels in consecutive frames Is treated as background at the position. Also, the objects of current frame are consisted of the set of pixels whose distance from background pixel is larger than threshold. In the paper, the proposed method is compared with the on-line multiple background extraction based on Gaussian mixture model(GMM) in order to evaluate the performance. As the result, its performance is similar or superior to the method based on GMM.

  • This paper shows an approach for real-time object segmentation on GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) using CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture). Recently, many applications that is monitoring system, motion analysis, object tracking or etc require real-time processing. It is not suitable for object segmentation to procedure real-time in CPU. NVIDIA provide CUDA platform for Parallel Processing for General Computation to upgrade limit of Hardware Graphic. In this paper, we use adaptive Gaussian Mixture Background Modeling in the step of object extraction and CCL(Connected Component Labeling) for classification. The speed of GPU and CPU is compared and evaluated with implementation in Core2 Quad processor with 2.4GHz.The GPU version achieved a speedup of 3x-4x over the CPU version.

  • This paper proposes an efficient method to enhance the quality of synthesized speech in HMM based speech synthesis system. The proposed method trains spectral parameters and excitation signals using Gaussian mixture model, and estimates appropriate excitation signals from spectral parameters during the synthesis stage. Both WB-PESQ and MUSHRA results show that the proposed method provides better speech quality than conventional HMM based speech synthesis system.

  • This paper focused on the development of sports robot that detects a human player and shots a serve ball automatically. When robot technologies apply to the sports machine, the domain problems occurs such as outdoor environments and playing condition to recognize the visual and the vocal modalities. Gaussian mixture model and Kalman filter are used to detect the player's position in the left, right, and depth direction and to avoid the noises caused by the player's posture variation around the net. The sports robot is designed by the pan-tilt structure to shot a serve ball by pneumatic control under the multi layered software architecture. Finally, the proposed tracking and the machine performance are discussed by experimental results.
