A mixture experiment is a special type of the response surface experiment in which the factors are the components of a mixture, and the response variable is a function of the proportions of each component. When a new mixture product is developed, there are a large number of components, and the first objective of the experiment is to identify the ones that are most important by doing a screening experiment. We propose a method of screening mixture components using the correlation coefficients when t-tests cannot identify significant components.

Pool boiling heat transfer coefficients(HTCs) of HFC32/HFC134a, HFC125/HFC134a, HFC32/HFC125 and HFC32/HFC125/HFC134a were measured on a horizontal smooth tube. The experimental apparatus was specially designed to simulate the real heat transfer tube with the use of the secondary fluid of water. Data were taken in the order of decreasing heat flux starting at 80kW/$m^2\; and\; ending\; at\; 5kW/m^2$ in the pool temperature at $7^{\circ}C$. Test results showed that HTCs of these mixtures were 11~38% lower than those of ideal HTCs calculated by a linear mixing rule with pure fluids、 HTCs. Experimental data were compared with Stephan & Korner, Thome, Schlunder, Thome & Shakir、s correlations only to find that those correlations were not satisfactory for all fluids. Hence, a new correlation based on the present data was proposed which could be applied even to the ternary mixture. The correlation predicts the degradation of HTCs of mixtures well, showing a mean deviation of less than 15% for all the mixture data.
A fast response NO analyzer was applied to investigate the relation between cycle-by-cycle NO emissions and combustion chamber pressure. NO emissions were sampled at an isolated exhaust manifold of 4-stroke spark ignition engine to avoid the interference of exhaust gas from other cylinders. The linear correlation analysis was performed with collected data of NO emissions and combustion chamber pressure with respect to the various air-fuel mixture ratios and engine loads. The sampled data sets were obtained during 200 cycles at each operating condition. The results showed that there was a typical pattern in NO emissions from an exhaust port through a cycle. It was possible to set a block of crank angle in which the linear correlation coefficient between NO emissions and combustion chamber pressure was high. As the engine load increased, NO emissions were more dependent on combustion chamber pressure after TDC. It was also analyzed that the correlation between two parameters with respect to air-fuel mixture ratio tended to increase as mixture went leaner. Furthermore, this correlation coefficient for the mixture near the lean limit seemed to be kept high even though combustion was unstable.

A geo-composite soil (GCS) is a stabilized mixture of bottom ash, cement and dredged soil. Various samples with different mass ratios of mixtures were tested under curing time of 7 and 28 days to investigate physical properties and compressive strength. This paper focused on the effect of bottom ash on the strength characteristics of Busan marine dredged soil. Cement has been added as an additive constituent to enhance self-hardening of the blended mixture. The unconfined compressive strength of GCS increases with an increase in curing time due to pozzolanic reaction of the bottom ash. The strength after 28 days of curing is found to be approximately 1.3 to 2.0 times the strength after 7 days of curing, regardless of mixture conditions. The secant modulus of GCS is in the range of 55 to 134 times the unconfined compressive strength. The correlation of unconfined compressive strength with bottom ash content and initial void ratio are suggested.

The NO emissions at the exhaust manifo1d were investigated with a fast NO analyzer to investigate the cycle-by-cycle variations on NO emissions level and the dependence of NO emissions on combustion. The measurement was performed with a part load condition with respect to the mixture ratios and the changes in loads at 1800rpm. The averaged values were obtained during 200 cycles. We found that there is characteristic pattern in 70 emissions from exhaust port and it was possible to set a representative value with the data sampled during specific period. As the load increased, the characteristics of NO emissions were more dependent on combustion pressures. It was also analyzed that the correlation between combustion pressures and NO emissions for different equivalence ratios tends to increase as the mixture goes leaner, Furthermore, this correlation for the lean mixture near the lean limit seemed to be kept.
It is necessary to understand the combustion process and cycle-by-cycle variation in combustion to improve the engine stability and consequently to improve the fuel economy and exhaust emissions. The pressure related parameters instead of mass fraction burned were compared for the effect of initial combustion pressures on the following combustion and the analysis of cycle-by-cycle variation in combustion for two pen injected SI engines. The correlation between IMEP and pressures at referenced crank angles showed almost the same trends for equivalence ratios, but the different mixture preparations indicated different tendency. The dependency of IMEP on pressure at the referenced crank angles increases as the mixture becomes leaner for both engines. The mixture distribution in the combustion chamber was varied with the coolant temperature and intake valve deactivation due to the evaporation of fuel and air motion. The correlation between pressure related parameters were also compared for the coolant temperatures and air motion.

An experimental study on the pressure drop during flow boiling for pure refrigerants Rl34a and R123, and their mixture was carried out in a uniformly heated horizontal tube. Tests were run at a pressure of 0.6㎫ and in the ranges of heat flux 5-50㎾/$m^2$, vapor quality 0-100 percent and mass velocity of 150-600 kg/$m^2$s. Generally, the two-phase frictional multiplier is used to predict the frictional pressure drop during the two-phase flow boiling. The obtained results have been compared to the existing various correlations for the two-phase multiplier. Also, the frictional pressure drop was compared to a few available correlations; The Lockhart-Martinelli correlation considerally overpredicted the frictional pressure drop data for mixture as well as pure components in the entire mass velocity ranges employed in the present study, while the Chisholm correlation underpredicted the present data. The Friedel correlation was found to satisfactorily correlate the frictional pressure drop data except for a low quality region.
In this paper, we propose a novel method for the cross-correlation based double-talk detection (DTD), which employing the Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) in the frequency domain. The proposed algorithm transforms the cross correlation coefficient used in the time domain into 16 channels in the frequency domain using the discrete fourier transform (DFT). The channels are then selected into seven feature vectors for GMM and we identify three different regions such as far-end, double-talk and near-end speech using the likelihood comparison based on those feature vectors. The presented DTD algorithm detects efficiently the double-talk regions without Voice Activity Detector which has been used in conventional cross correlation based double-talk detection. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated under various conditions and yields better results compared with the conventional schemes. especially, show the robustness against detection errors resulting from the background noises or echo path change which one of the key issues in practical DTD.
In the present design concept of a high-level waste repository, the bentonite and bentonite-sand mixture are considered as the buffer and backfill material. For the Kyungju bentonite which is a candidate material, the thermal conductivities of compacted bentonite and bentonite-sand mixture were measured. A correlation has been proposed to predict the thermal conductivity of the Kyungju bentonite and the bentonite-sand mixture as a function of the dry density, the water content and the sand fraction. The proposed correlation can predict the thermal conductivity with a difference less than 10% under the experimental conditions.
A series of experiments have been carried out to investigate the effects of non-condensable gas on the direct contact film condensation of vapor mixture under an adiabatic wall condition. The average heat transfer coefficient of the direct contact condensation was obtained at the atmospheric pressure with four main parameters ; air-mass fraction, mixture velocity, film Reynolds number, and the degree of water film subcooling having an influence on the condensation heat transfer coefficient. With the analysis of 88 experiments, a correlation of the average Nusselt number for direct contact film condensation of steam/air mixture at an adiabatic vertical wall was proposed as functions of film Reynolds number, mixture Reynolds number, air mass fraction, and Jacob number. The average heat transfer coefficient for steam/air mixture condensation decreased significantly while air mass fraction increased. The average heat transfer coefficients also decreased as the Jacob number increased, and were scarcely affected by the film Reynolds number below a mixture Reynolds number of about 245,000.
