The main objective of this study was investigation of combustion instability characteristics in a lean partially premixed gas turbine dump combustor. Dynamic pressure transducers were located on combustor and inlet section to observe combustion pressure oscillation and difference at each measurement places. Also flame shape and $CH^*$ chemiluminescence were measured using a high speed ICCD camera. The combustor length was varied in order to have different acoustic characteristics from 800 to 1090 mm. The first section of this paper shows the stability map in model gas turbine combustor. And the effects of combustor length, mixture velocity in the mixing section and equivalence ratio were studied by the pressure perturbation and heat release oscillation. Also, the instability frequency and mode analysis were studied in last two sections. We observed two dominant instability frequencies in this study. Lower frequencies were obtained at lower equivalence ratio region and it was associated with a fundamental longitudinal mode of combustor length. Higher frequencies were observed in higher equivalence ratio conditions. It was related to secondary longitudinal mode of combustor and mixing section. In this instability characteristics, pressure oscillation of mixing section part was larger than pressure oscillation of combustor. As a result, combustion instability was strongly affected by acoustic characteristics of combustor and mixing section geometry.
Y-jet nozzle has various advantages over other twin-fluid nozzles and are used in industrial boilers. However, it costs large energy consumption because of assisted air and its design is complex. The Y-jet nozzle is consisted of a liquid and gas port and a mixing chamber. The diameter of the port and the length of the mixing chamber greatly affect spray and atomization characteristics, therefore, they are the most important factors in nozzle design. In this study, The experimental setup is consisted of a laboratory scale spray system. The characteristics of the Y-jet nozzle according to the design parameters were observed. As a result, it was found that the length of the mixing chamber did not have effect on the flow rate and the choking condition. The droplet size was measured using a Malvern type measuring device. In addition, measurements were conducted in the front and the right directions of the nozzles. Based on the results, the SMD View Ratio is defined. It is the asymmetrical design characteristics of the Y-jet nozzle.

This study aims to analyze the high strength mortar's fundamental properties and autogenous shrinkage properties by taking into consideration the result of the previous study in which it was found that ERBO(Biodiesel) exercises greatest effect on the expansion effect of mortar, and changing the time and rate of mixing the ERBO. A total of five levels were set as experimental variables: the three levels of the rate of ERBO, 0, 0.5, 1.0%, and the two levels of the time of mixing the ERBO: first, adding the ERBO with the mixing water and mixing it before, and second, mixing it after the mortar is completely mixed. It was found that the rate of length change decreased as the rate of ERBO increased, and the rate of length change was lower when the ERBO was mixed sooner.
Cure characteristics and physical properties of carbon black-filled natural rubber (NR) compounds depending on the mixing procedure were studied using the compounds with different pre-final mixing (FM-1) stages. Carbon master batch (MB) and first and second remitting (1RM and 2RM) stages were employed as the FM-1 stage. Bound rubber content of the FM compound decreased with increasing the mixing steps. This was due to the decrease of the molecular weight distribution of the polymer by the rubber chain scission during the mixing. The Mooney viscosity decreased with increasing the mixing steps. Cure characteristics of the compounds were found to be different with the mixing procedures. The cure times of the compound became slower by increasing the number of the mixing steps. This was explained by the length of rubber chain, the carbon black network, distribution of the curatives in the compound, and immobilization of the polymeric segments. Modulus and tensile strength of the vulcanizate did not show a specific trend with the mixing procedure. Fatigue life of the vulcanizate increased by increasing the mixing stages.

An Oxy-fuel combustion has been studied in order to reduce exhaust emissions and fuel consumption. The flow and flame behaviors are analyzed with focal length variation in one-focussing oxygen burner introduced in this study. Oxygen is supplied into the center of the nozzle, methane fuel is into the outer nozzle of the center, and then oxygen is again supplied into the outer of the fuel nozzle. The test conditions are 5 focal lengths of 100mm to 500mm. The mixing behaviors and temperature distributions are analyzed. The result shows that the shorter the focal length is, the longer the mixing length becomes, and the flame width and length are the biggest in the case of 300mm.

In-mold coating is a reactive fluid designed to improve the surface quality of injection molded thermoplastic substrate in functional and cosmetic properties. In this study, a mixing head for in-mold coating was designed, and mixing characteristics of two-component polyurethane flowing through runner were investigated based on flow simulations. In order to achieve uniform mixing of two components injected through straight mixing head, an impingement aftermixer was used in runner design. Semi-circular cross-section was better than circular one for runners for uniform mixing. With increasing runner length and flow rate, mixing became more uniform. In addition, the degree of mixing was more improved with decreasing viscosity of isocyanate.

A mathematical model for computing the bed friction of combined wave-current flow has been developed based on the Prandtl's mixing length theory. Using various approximate expressions, solutions are obtained explicitly. The computational results are compared and found in reasonable agreements with the data of field measurements.

The main objective of this study was investigation of natural gas flames in a lean premixed swirl-stabilized dump combustor with an attention focused on the effect of the various fuel-air mixing section geometry on the combustion instability characteristics. The multi-channel dynamic pressure transducers were located on the combustor and inlet mixing section region to observe combustion pressure oscillation and difference phase at each dynamic pressure measurement results. Dynamic pressures were also measured to investigate characteristics of combustion at the same time. We conducted a numerical study of AC-electroosmotic (alternating current) effect on the fluid flow and mixing in a 3-D microchannel. The microchannel used as an efficient micro-mixer is composed of a channel and a series of pairs of electrodes attached in zigzag pattern on the bottom wall. The AC electric field is applied to the electrodes so that a steady flow current takes place around the electrodes. This current is flowing across the channel and thus contributing to the mixing of the fluid within the channel. We performed numerical simulations by using a commercial code to obtain a steady flow field. This steady flow is then used in evaluation of the mixing performance via the concept of mixing index. It was found that good combination of two kinds of electrode, which gave us a good mixing, is not simple harmonic. And when the length ratio of these two kinds of electrode is 2:1, we can get the best mixing effect.

In this work, Scalar Passive code in Lattice Boltzmann Method is employed to simulate two-phase flow of low Reynolds number in a micro-channel. The mixing characteristics in a micro-channel is a function of Peclet number. The mixing length increases with the Peclet number. It is found that with the inclusion of static elements at the channel, rapid mixing of two liquids can be achieved, as shown by the results of computer simulations. The enhancement in mixing performance is thought to be caused by the generation of eddies and by lateral velocity component when the mixture flows past static elements. The results indicate that the size of static element has more effect on the mixing than the number of static element.
