Development of Solution for Safety and Optimal Weather Routing of a Ship

  • When a ship sails on sea, it may be influenced by the environmental disturbance such as wind, wave, sea surface temperature, etc. These affect on the ship's speed, fuel consumption, safety and operating performance. It is necessary to find the optimal weather route of a ship to avoid adverse weather conditions which can put the crews in serious danger or cause structural damage to the vessel, machinery, and equipment. This study introduced how to apply A* algorithm based on sea trial test data for determining the optimal ship routes. The path cost function was modelled as a function of minimum arrival time or minimum energy depending on the time of various environment conditions. The specially modelled path-cost function and the safety constraints were applied to the A* algorithm in order to find the optimal path of the ship. The comparison of ship performances estimated by real sea trial's path and estimated optimal route during the voyage of the ship was investigated. The result of this study can be used to create a schedule to ensure safe operation of the ship with short passage time or minimum energy. In addition, the result of this study can be integrated into an on-board decision supporting expert system and displayed in Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) to provide all the useful information to ship master.

  • 차세대 ITS 환경에서는 도로에서 주행 중인 차량을 대상으로 하여 도로변에 RSE와 차량에는 OBU를 설치하여 고속 패킷 V2I 및 V2V 통신 기능, 보안 및 인증 기능, 기지국 셀 간 핸드 오버 기능 지원을 필요로 한다. 이에 따라, 이러한 서비스를 가능하게 하는 무선 통신 기술 역시 최대 200km/h의 차량 속도를 지원하고, 1km의 통신 거리를 가지며, 텍스트, 이미지, 동영상 등 멀티미디어 데이터 전송이 가능하도록 데이터 전송속도를 최소 10Mbps까지 지원하는 한편, 높은 통신 신뢰성을 갖도록 발전하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 IEEE 802.11p PHY/MAC을 기반으로 하는 WAVE 통신시스템을 구현하고, 차세대 ITS 환경에 부합하는지의 여부를 평가하였다.

  • At present the identification of vessels is still depending on the OOW (Officer Of Wateh) in VTS (Vessel Traffic Service), which is completed by radar, and also by the combination of VHF radio and VHF direction finder. However, with the development of port transportation and economic, this conventional way of identification can't satisfy more and more request for the information that the VTS needs from the vessels. In such a case, the AIS(Automatic Identification System) precept which is based on STDMA (Self-organized Time Division Multiple Access) technique is put forward by IMO (International Maritime Organization). AIS can automatically provide the information, including own ship's identification, type, position, course, speed, and other information to the appropriately equipped coast station and other ships. At the same time it can also automatically monitor and track the nearby ships similarly fitted with AIS. On the basis of describing the whole comprising and the format of transmission information of AIS, this paper mainly studies the key communication techniques in AIS, such as STDMA protocol, net synchronization and GMSK(Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying)technique, and so on. At last this paper briefly introduces the recommendation decided by IMO on forcing the sea-going ships to fixed with AIS equipments, and it continuos with the unexploited potential of AIS if it applies in VTS.

포텐셜 필드 기법을 이용한 무인차량의 자율항법 개발 (Navigation Technique of Unmanned Vehicle Using Potential Field Method)

  • This paper proposes a real-time navigation algorithm which integrates the artificial potential field (APF) for an unmanned vehicle in the unknown environment. This approach uses repulsive potential function around the obstacles to force the vehicle away and an attractive potential function around the goal to attract the vehicle. In this research, laser range finder is used as range sensor. An obstacle detected by the sensor creates repulsive vector. Differential global positioning system (DGPS) and digital compass are used to measure the current vehicle position and orientation. The measured vehicle position is also used to create attractive vector. This paper proposes a new concept of potential field based navigation which controls unmanned vehicle's speed and steering. The magnitude of repulsive force based on the proposed algorithm is designed not to be over the magnitude of attractive force while the magnitude is increased linearly as being closer to obstacle. Consequently, the vehicle experiences a generalized force toward the negative gradient of the total potential. This force drives the vehicle downhill towards its goal configuration until the vehicle reaches minimum potential and it stops. The effectiveness of the proposed APF for unmanned vehicle is verified through simulation and experiment.

  • The wheelhouse front glass of a Fore-Bridge-Ship (Ro-Ro Ship) was broken by the shipping of water in rough seas, and then the flooding of seawater into the wheelhouse caused the uncontrollable condition of the ship. The hull which was entered into the floating condition rolled severely, and the heavy rolling caused secondary damage such as the collapse of a lot of cargo. It was an incredible accident because the height of bow freeboard was about 2.5 times higher than the standard height of minimum bow freeboard regulated by the International Load Line Convention(1966). And it would be also difficult for navigators to imagine a great deal of seawater flooding into the wheelhouse because the front glass was positioned at about 20m height above the sea surface. In this paper, we carried out the evaluation for the safety navigation of the Fore-Bridge-Ship numerically against ship's speed and encountering angle to the wave in each sea state of rough sea, by using the integrated seakeeping performance index (ISPI) which is able to evaluate synthetically the safety operation of ships. And then the problem on the application of the past criteria proposed as the safety navigation of a merchant ship was clarified by inquiring the dangerousness of the shipping of water at her bow deck, which caused the breakage of the wheelhouse front glass.

LCDs: Lane-Changing Aid System Based on Speed of Vehicles

  • Lane change is an important issue in microscopic traffic flow simulations and active safety. Overtaking and changing lanes are dangerous driving maneuvers. This approach presents a lane-changing system based on speed and a minimum gap between vehicles in a vehicular ad hoc network (VANET). This paper proposes a solution to ensure the safety of drivers while changing lanes on highways. Efficient routing protocols could play a crucial role in VANET applications, safeguarding both drivers and passengers, and thus, maintaining a safe on-road environment. This paper focuses on the development of an intelligent transportation system that provides timely, reliable information to drivers and the concerned authorities. A test bed is created for the techniques used in the proposed system, where analysis takes place in an on-board embedded system designed for vehicle navigation. The designed system was tested on a four-lane road in Neemrana, India. Successful simulations were conducted with real-time network parameters to maximize quality of service and performance using Simulation of Urban Mobility and Network Simulator 2 (NS-2). The system implementation, together with the findings, is presented in this paper. Illustrating the approach are results from simulation using NS-2.

항만 하역 노동력의 최적 규모 결정에 관하여 (A Study on Determining the Optimal Amount of Labor Force for Cargo Handling in the Harbor)

  • Today, about 99% of total import and export cargo in Korea is being transported through the port. The general trends of cargo handling show increases in capacity and speed, In order to cope with these trends, it is not only required to raise the efficiencies of port operation and function but also necessary to decide the optimal amount of the skilled labor force for cargo handling in the port. Cargo handling in the port is basically relied on the cargo handling facilities. Therefore, it is very important to reserve the amount of labor force for cargo handling system has been developed up to a certain level but the personnel management system which is the superior structure has not been followed well. In this study, therefore, we show a method to determine the required amount of labor force for cargo handling considering the amount of cargo and type of cargo handling work per each cargo, and the optimal amount labor force in cope with the fluctuation of the basic cargo handling labor force with respect to the time of in and out cargo flow in the viewpoint of minimizing the expences due to reservation of extra labor force than needed and firing employment of labor force using the Dynamic Programming. The derived algorithm is introduced into the computer simulation for Pusan port with the analyzed real data such as amount of cargo handling in the port with respect to working hour, cargo capacity, working step, the ratio of cargo handling facility and actual number of workers and we estimated the required labor force. As a result of analysis the labor force of Pusan port showed the over-employment such as maximum 21.4%, minimum 8.2% when we assumed that the averages of actual working hours and days were 8 hours in a day and 20 day in a month.

해양용 DGPS 구조개선을 위한 RSIM 설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on Design of Reference Stations and Integrity Monitors for Maritime DGPS Recapitalization)

  • 현재 운영되고 있는 해양용 DGPS 시스템은 하드웨어 RSIM 방식으로서 DGPS 구조개선시 고려해야 할 위성항법시스템의 다원화와 미래 해양 사용자의 최소 요구성능을 만족시킬 수 있는 기술 적용에 효율적이지 못하다는 문제가 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여 소프트웨어 RSIM 방식으로 해양용 DGPS 시스템을 구조개선하는 방안을 연구한다. 이를 위해 본 논문은 해양용 DGPS 시스템에 적합한 소프트웨어 RSIM 방식을 제안하고, 제안한 방법의 기술적 타당성 분석을 위하여 광대역폭, 높은 표본화 주파수, 데이터 고속전송 사양을 갖는 RF 모듈과 DSP 모듈을 제작하며, 이를 이용하여 제안한 방법을 적용한 해양용 DGPS 시스템을 구현한다. 그리고 신호처리 소요시간 분석을 통하여 개인용 컴퓨터 환경에서 제안한 소프트웨어 RSIM 방식이 실시간으로 운영됨에 문제가 없음을 보인다. 마지막으로 본 논문은 제안한 방법으로 설계된 DGPS 시스템의 보정정보 정확도가 RTCM 221-2006-SC104-STD을 통해 규정된 국제기구 요구성능을 만족시키고 있음을 확인한다.

방향그래프의 점대점 최단경로 탐색 알고리즘 (A Point-to-Point Shortest Path Search Algorithm for Digraph)

  • 본 논문은 실시간 GPS 항법시스템에서 최단 경로를 탐색하는데 일반적으로 적용되고 있는 Dijkstra 알고리즘의 문제점을 개선한 알고리즘을 제안하였다. Dijkstra 알고리즘은 출발 노드부터 시작하여 그래프의 모든 노드에 대한 최단 경로를 결정하기 때문에 일반적으로 노드의 수 - 1회를 수행해야 하며, 알고리즘 수행에 많은 메모리가 요구된다. 따라서 Dijkstra 알고리즘은 복잡한 도시의 도로에서 목적지 까지 최단 경로를 탐색하여 실시간으로 정보를 제공하지 못할 수도 있다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하고자, 본 논문에서는 먼저 출발과 목적지 노드를 제외한 경로 노드들의 최단 경로 (유입과 유출 최소 가중치 호 선택)를 결정하고, 출발 노드부터 시작하여 노드 유출 호들에 대해 경로 노드의 최단 경로와 일치하는 호들을 모두 선택하는 방식으로 한번에 다수의 노드들을 탐색하는 방법을 택하였다. 14개의 다양한 방향 그래프에 제안된 알고리즘을 적용한 결과 모두 최단 경로를 탐색하는데 성공하였다. 또한, 수행 속도 측면에서 Dijkstra 알고리즘보다 2배에서 3배 정도 빠른 결과를 얻었으며, 알고리즘 수행에 필요한 메모리도 적게 요구되었다.

방향표지 정보제공 방법에 대한 운전자 선호도 연구 (A Study on the Driver's Preferences of Prividing Direction Information in Road Signs)

  • 최근 빅데이터를 이용한 교통정보 분석이 활발히 진행되고 있으나, 운전자 특성을 고려한 정보의 활용은 다소 낮은 실정이다. 이중 도로표지는 운전자에게 직접적 영향을 주는 정보중 하나라고 할 수 있다. 도로표지는 운전자가 목적지까지 원활한 통행이 가능하도록 최적의 정보를 제공해 주어야 하며, 내비게이션 사용을 고려한 적정 정보 제공을 필요로 하고 있다. 하지만 현재 도로표지규칙에서는 도로의 종류나 규모에 관계없이 일정한 규격을 통한 정보제공을 하도록 하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 운전자의 원활한 행동판단이 가능하도록 도로 안내 정보의 제공 방법을 제시하고자 하였다. 먼저 도로표지의 시인성 및 판독성을 고려하여 도로의 설계속도별 도로표지에 사용할 수 있는 최소 글자 크기를 도출하였다. 기존 도형식 안내에 대비하여 분할식 안내를 이용한 시나리오를 제작하였다. 정보 제공의 효과를 검증하기 위하여, 3차원 시뮬레이션 도로 환경을 구축하였고, 드라이빙 시뮬레이터를 이용하여 실험을 수행하였다. 단순한 평면 교차로에서는 방향 안내 방식이 운전자에게 크게 영향이 없었으나, 복잡한 입체교차로에서는 도형식 안내방식 보다 직관적 안내방식인 분할식 방향 정보 안내가 운전자 선호도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 실험 결과에 따라, 입체교차로에서의 분할식 정보 제공 형태를 적용한 2차 검증 실험을 실시하였으며, 운전자의 행동 판단에 문제가 없음을 확인 하였다.
