A Visual Quality Enhancement of Medical Image Using Optimized High-Frequency Emphasis Filter (고주파 강조필터를 이용한 의료영상의 화질향상을 위한 최적화 방법)

  • The visual quality of medical image is an important factor for diagnosis accuracy. Therefore, the methods to improve the quality of medical image have studied. Among them, frequency domain filter is very powerful method to impove the visual quality of image. In this paper, the X-ray medical image using optimized high-pass filter was improved edges. The result image was improved edge and contrast of flat area using optimized high frequency emphasis filter. At last, the result image is to minimize the noise using the minimum mean square error(MMSE) filter. As a result, the proposed method has enhanced contrast and edge of the image in the contrast of existing filters, with the noise canceling effect.

Image Interpolation Using Iterative Error Elimination (반복적 오차 제거를 이용한 영상 보간법)

  • Image interpolation is a technique which estimates the non-allocated pixel values on image scale-transform. It requires minimum computational complexity and minimum image quality degradation on the interpolated resultant images. In this paper we propose an image interpolation method using iterative error estimation. The proposed method consists of the following five steps: loss-information computational step, loss-information estimation step, loss-information application step, error computation step, and error application step. The experimental results obtained show that the average PSNR is increased by 3.3dB, subjective image quality is enhanced and the minimum computation complexity is decreased by 83%. The proposed image interpolation algorithm may be helpful in various applications such as image reconstruction and enlargement.

  • This descriptive correlation study was undertaken in order to investigate the relationship of family support and personality with quality of life in patients receiving radiotherapy for breast cancer and to provide basic data to help them improve a better quality of life. This subjects for this study were 74 out-patients undergoing a radiation therapy at C hospital in Kwang-Ju. The data were obtained using a convenience sampling technique. The tool of this study were Ro's qualify of life scale, Kang's family support scale and Wallston & others health locus of control scale. The data were analyzed using a SAS program for percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson Correlation Coefficient, GLM. The results were as fellows: 1. The total average score of the quality of life of the subjects was 137.22 (minimum score 38-maximum score 227), item mean score(range 1-5) was 3.15. The total average score of the family support of the subjects was 40.38(minimum score 21-maximum score 47), item mean score(range 1-5) was 3.69. The total average score of health locus of control of the subjects was 42.47(minimum score 28-maximum score 59), item mean score(range 1-6 was 3.69. 2. The results of the analysis of the relationship between the quality of life scores and the health locus of control were as follows : the total average score of the qualify of life of internal locus of control scale was 133.50, he total average score of the quality of life of external locus of control scale was 138.41. 3. There was positive correlation between the health locus of control and the quality of life(r=0.0722, p=0.5413). 4. There were significant positive correlation between family support and quality of life(r=0.2328, p=0.0399). The results of the analysis of the relationship between the each factor in the quality of life scores and family support were as fellows : There were significant difference between the self esteem factor(r=0.2974, p=0.0124), relationship with family factor(r=0.2657, p=0.0241)

Current Status and Prospects for the Quality Evaluation of Medicinal Plants (약용식물의 품질평가 현황과 전망)

  • This is a brief review and discussion for present status and prospects of quality evaluation in medicinal plants as oriental medicine materials (OMM). Quality in medicinal plants could be defined as the combination of origin, external appearance, effectiveness and safety, and be evaluated by plant taxonomic, morphological, physiochemical and biological methods. For high-quality improvement and standardization of OMM, medicinal plants should be produced through using proper species or good variety and standard cultivation method in suitable cultivation area. Standardizing of quality means to meet with minimum qualifying criteria of OMM in the market while improving of quality to be over standard quality of medicinal piano in production. For making new high quality and standardized products, we need to keep standard field plants, standard OMM, standard plant specimen, and standard compounds. Researchers and administration have to study and propose the quality factors and their evaluating techniques and criteria, so high-quality and standardized produce of medicinal plane could be produced and distributed under the control of the relevant regulations, and would be contributed to increasing of national health.

A Study on the Service Quality Evaluation of Public Libraries by the Use of LibQUAL+: The Case of Public Libraries in Seoul that Contracting Out to Private Sector (LibQUAL+를 적용한 공공도서관 서비스 품질 평가에 관한 연구 - 서울시 소재 민간위탁 공공도서관을 중심으로 -)

  • This study is designed to evaluate the service quality of public libraries according to managing entities by LibQUAL+ and to devise ways to improve problems based on comparison and analysis of the differences in the service qualities. To achieve this, four public libraries in Seoul according to the managing entities were investigated. They consisted of libraries of public corporations, cultural centers, foundations and universities. Minimum service quality level, desired service quality level and perceived service quality was analyzed based on nine-point Lickertis scale. A survey was employed and consisted of twenty-two items. The results showed that current level of service met the minimum level, yet failed to reach their desired service level. The study suggested that public libraries contracting out to private sector need to actively apply users' demands and the changing environment of libraries, and continue to strive to provide public library users with high quality service through efforts of evaluating and improving the services for their users.

The Characteristics of Groundwater Quality in the Youngsan and Sumjin River Basins Using Geostatistical Methods (지구통계 기법을 이용한 영산강.섬진강 유역의 지하수 수질특성 연구)

  • pH, EC and TDS are basic components in the investigation of groundwater quality, and are very important to the preliminary assessment of groundwater quality. These three chemical components investigated at the Youngsan and Sumjin river basins in 1998 suggest that the groundwater quality is generally good in these basins. Linear regression analysis shows that TDS versus EC has an linear correlation, but EC versus pH, and TDS versus pH have nearly no correlation. The relation of TDS and EC is 1.0 mg/1=1.52 $mu\textrm{S}$/cm, and it is the quality of natural water. In geostatistical analysis. three kinds of data are stationary random functions and they have exponential variograms. According to the isopleth maps of the groundwater quality, the groundwater quality of the Youngsan river basin is more contaminated than that of the Sumjin river basin. The isopleth maps of TDS and EC show very similar patterns because of the strong correlation between TDS and EC. The minimum and maximum values of the groundwater quality data are not reflected on the isopleth maps because kriging produces smooth distributions with minimum estimation variances.

  • The objective of this paper is to develop an efficient genetic algorithm (GA) to find a channel assignment method for minimum interference among the channels within reasonable time. The series of specific channel number is used as a representation of chromosome. We use minimum-channel-distance encoding scheme within the same cell to consider cosite channel interference (CSI) when chromosomes are generated. The cell base crossover is also used. This proposed method improves solution quality within limited time.

  • We shall introduce a general probability mass function which includes several discrete probability mass functions. Especially, when the random variable X is Poisson, binomial, and negative binomial random variables as some special cases of the introduced distribution, the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) and the uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator (UMVUE) of the probability P(X ${\leq}$ t) are considered. And the efficiencies of the MLE and the UMVUE of the reliability ar compared each other.

  • Optimization of concrete mixing system is very important for the production of quality mixture of concrete and requires very complicated, specialized knowledge as there are a variety of variables that influence the result. One of the methods of optimizing the concrete mixing system is to minimize the volume of cement paste which, in turn, means maximizing the volume of aggregate. The purpose of this study is to determine the minimum volume of cement paste used in the design of concrete mixture and to design the optimum concrete mixing system based on the fluidity of mortar and concrete. In determining the minimum volume of cement paste, experiments of mortar and concrete were performed based on their workability, material segregation and bleeding. Type of aggregate, granularity distribution and sand percentage were used as test parameters and measurements were taken of the distribution of granularity, usage of HRWRA, minimum volume of paste and drying shrinkage and compressive strength of concrete.

A Study on the Comparison Analysis of Minimum Airflow Control Logic of VAV Terminal Box (VAV 터미널 박스의 최소풍량 제어방식 비교 연구)

  • The minimum airflow of VAV terminal boxes is a key factor for comfort, indoor air quality(IAQ) and energy cost. If the minimum airflow is not reasonable, it would waste energy and make IAQ problems. There are two types of VAV terminal box control logic. One is the single maximum, another is the dual maximum control logic. Dual maximum control logic is more efficiency way to reduce the energy consumption. It has a minimum airflow set point and a heating maximum set point. It allows the minimum airflow set point to be much lower than single maximum control logic. A building simulation was conducted to evaluate the energy consumption and the IAQ according to the control logic of the V AV terminal box. In the simulation, dual maximum control logic can save the energy up to 6.5% compared to the single maximum control logic.
