This paper reports on the theoretical analysis on the lubrication characteristics between the piston ring and the grooved cylinder liner. The circular shape piston ring and two types grooves are consider, and the minimum oil film thickness during the full engine cycle are obtained by using iterative technique. The comparative results of minimum oil film thickness and viscous friction force between the smooth and grooved liner are presented. And various design parameter of piston ring and liner groove are tested. The groove in the liner generally reduces the minimum value of minimum oil film thickness, but the maximum viscous friction force is increased at the minimum film position.
The optimum design parameters of several hydraulic systems are obtained using the complex method that is one kind of constrained direct search method. First, the parameters of lead-lag controller of the direct drive servovalve is designed using the complex method to satisfy the steady-state error requirement. Second, the optimum locating point of hydraulic cylinder Is determined to minimize the cylinder force in the operation range of rotational sluice gate. For the third application case, the optimum piston area of hydraulic cylinder is determined to minimize the man power to elevate the manually operated sluice gate.
This study was carried out to obtain an analytical expression for the specifications of the Stewart Platform that minimize the maximum force acting on the hydraulic cylinder. The position and orientation of the platform were calculated by means of the inverse kinematic analysis. The maximum force to be exerted on a cylinder was calculated using the Newton's second law for the case when the platform is moved along a horizontal axis with 0.6 g, the maximum translational acceleration possible. This paper suggests a mathematical model to minimize the maximum actuating force using radius and angle ratios as design variables. Finally, a fuzzy set for the minimum actuating force is proposed for this dynamic optimal design problem.

Fundamental studies on the drag reduction of the circular cylinder having dimple were conducted by the measurement of the fluid force acting on the cylinder and by the flow visualization around the cylinder. The drag coefficients were changed by the shape and the geometrical arrangement of the dimple. The drag of the cylinder was reduced about 25% by the proper arrangement of the dimple. The flow field around the cylinder having dimple, which was the minimum drag, was visualized by the hydrogen bubble technique. In this case, the separation points were moved rearward and the wake region was small in comparison with that of the cylinder having no dimple.

The drag coefficients were changed by the shape and the space for the arrangement of the dimple. The drag of the cylinder was reduced about 50% by the proper arrangement of the dimple. The flowfield around the cylinder having dimple, which was the minimum drag, was visualized by the hydrogen bubble technique. In this case, the separation points were moved rearward and the wake region was small in comparison with the cylinder having no dimple.
The drag reduction of the cylinder having square dimpled surface was studied by the measuring the drag force acting on the cylinder. The level of the drag reduction was changed by the arrangement shape of the square grooves and Reynolds number. The drag of the cylinder was reduced about 28% with proper arrangement of square grooves. The flow field around the cylinder having grooves at the minimum drag was visualized by using post color ink in order to see the influence of the grooves. In this case, the separation points were sifted rearward and the wake region was smaller than that of the smooth cylinder.

Worldwide consumption of vegetable soybean bas been increasing recently, hence it is necessary to produce good quality of soybean in our farms. In the process of vegetable soybean production threshing and seperation work accounts for about 80% of overall labor. Therefore, developing of the vegetable soybean thresher is necessary to reduce the cost of labor. The purpose of this study is to acquire the basic informations to design of the vegetable soybeans-thresher. We make the experimental system which measure the physical properties and investigate the detachment forces. Also, We calculated the minimum speed of threshing cylinder. The result are as follows; 1. The average length of soybean stem is 68.2cm. 2. The length of soybean pods are seen as 61.3mm for 3 grain, 52.6mm fer 2 grains and 41.0mm fer 1 grain 3. The widths of soybean pods are seen as 14.1mm fer 3 grain, 13.8mm fer 2 grains and 13.4mm fer 1 grain. 4. The weights of soybean pods are seen as 4.1grams for 3 grains, 2.7grams for 2 grains and 1.4grams for 1 grain. 5. The average detachment forces of pods are seen as 1.5kgf for 3 grains, 1.2kgf for 2 grains and 0.8kgf for 1 grain respectively For 1 grain, the detachment force of pods ranges from 0.2kgf to 1.4kgf. For 2 grains, the minimum detachment force of pods is seen as 0.6kgf and the maximum one is seen as 2.5kgf. For 3 grains, the minimum detachment force of pods is seen as 0.7kgf and the maximum one is seen as 2.7kgf. 6. The minimum speed of threshing cylinder is shown 6.83m/s.
Finite element analysis was performed to analyze structural safety of a new heavy-duty direct injection diesel engine. A half section of the in-line 6-cylinder engine was selected as a computational domain. A mapping method was used to project heat transfer coefficients from CFD results of engine coolant flow onto the FE model. The accurate setting of thermal boundary condition on the FE model was expected to result in improved prediction of temperature, cylinder bore distortion, and stresses. Characteristics of high cycle fatigue were investigated by assuming the engine was operated under the following five loading conditions repeatedly; assembly force, assembly force with thermal loading, alternating maximum gas pressure loading at each cylinder combined with assembly force and thermal loading. Distribution of fatigue safety factor was calculated by using it Haigh diagram in which the maximum and the minimum stresses were selected from the five loading cases.
The results of flow feature around two circular cylinders in various arrangements are carried out using two-dimensional simulation at Reynolds number of 200. In this work, time-averaged fluid force acting on the upstream and downstream cylinders were calculated for staggered angle ${\alpha}=0{\sim}90^{\circ}$ in the range of L/D = 1.1~5, where ${\alpha}$ is the angle between the free-stream flow and the line connecting the centers of the cylinders, L is centre-to-centre distance and D is cylinder diameter. The dependence of magnitudes and trends of fluid force coefficient on the spacing ratio L/D and ${\alpha}$ are discussed. In all arrangements of two cylinders, tandem arrangement (${\alpha}=0^{\circ}$) is the case produced a minimum drag coefficient for downstream cylinder. Moreover, the locations of separation and stagnation points or pressure coefficient on surface of the cylinder were examined.
