Slags generated in the smelting reduction of deep sea manganese nodule could be utilized as an additional materials for making Fe-Si-Mn alloys by mixing with cokes and re-smelting at an arc furnace. In this re-melting process slag is also generated, and the secondary slag is treated as waste. In this survey, recycling of the waste slag of Mn nodule was studied. It is tried to utilize the waste slag as ceramic materials or construction materials. However, it is difficult to use the waste slag directly as an additional material to ceramics such as portland cement or castable refractory material due to the much difference of chemical compositions. As an altercation road constructing material is considered, and toxicity on the soil of the waste slag was tested according to Korean Standard for testing permissible amount of toxic substances. The test result was satisfied with the requirements on the standard. So, it should be suggested that the waste slag of the Mn nodule could be utilized as constructing materials such as road filler or base materials.

Mineral composition and content of 22 Korean Dancheong pigment products were obtained by Rietveld quantitative analysis. Jubosa, Hwang, Seokrok, Seokcheong and Hobun consist of pure cinnabar, orpiment, malachite, azurite and calcite (or aragonite), respectively. Whereas Seokganju, Hwangto, Noerok, Lapis lazuli, Baekto and Cockie hobun mainly consist of hematite, goethite, celadonite, lazurite, kaolin mineral and portlandite, respectively. And they all consist of soil minerals (quartz, feldspar, sericite and vermiculite) and filler minerals in the industry field (calcite, gypsum and anhydrite) at a different content. Quantitative XRD proved more useful method to determined exact mineral composition and content than chemical or microscopical data. If this method utilize for specification of natural pigment product, it is considered to be applicable in restoration technology and conservation science field.
In this paper, it was described results of study on curing safety of molding meterial, about the variation of phenol resin contents, wood flour contents and moisture of wood flour, under the same condition. The experimental results are summarized as follows ; 1) When the curing temperature was high, the curing time was short in the case of 4~8wt% moisture of wood flour, but in the case of more than l2wt% moisture of wood flour, the curing time was long. 2) The curing time for curing temperature was more short when 6wt% moisture of wood flour than 4wt% moisture of wood flour. 3) The more wood flour content and moisture of wood flour content, the longer curing time and the more mineral filler content, the shorter curing time. 4) When the phenol resin content of main matrix increase, the curing time was short.

This study attempted to apply a hybrid technology that integrated mineral-based fillers and water-repellent agents to control the efflorescence that results from the use of inorganic binders, for the conservation treatment (surface finishing) of cultural heritage materials made up of stone. Herein, different types of mixing ratios of a filler (silica fume 3.4%) and a water repellent (silane-siloxane 1%) were selected for fabricating the inorganic binder, and it was determined that the ratio selected by weight is effective in controlling efflorescence substances. In addition, it was identified that the inorganic binder with the mixing ratio resulted in a higher compressive strength than the standard (20MPa), and the water permeability resistance was high with low water absorption. The result of ion elution from the bilder showed that a smaller number of ions was observed to affect the efflorescence (directly and indirectly) as compared to that of the control group, which was considered to be relatively stable.
The goal of this study was to examine property changes induced by the choice of filler used with an epoxy resin that was developed in 2014 to restore cultural assets and consider the applicability of the resin as a restorative agent. The properties of putty mixed with 9 types of fillers and as-developed resins were compared with those of existing materials with regard to stability, superiority and applicability. The potential of the putty as an alternative material was also examined. The materials produced the best adhesiveness, color change and hardness results when mixed with lime. Micro balloon produced the best wear rates and hardening times, while diatomite produced the best tensile and compressive strengths. A plaster and white mineral pigment mixture produced the best specific gravity. Every material except for lime exhibited about 2.5-20 times higher wear rates than the existing material, which is thought to exhibit an excellent cutting force. The hardening time was enhanced by about 0.5-9 times to improve convenience. The stability of the relic was also ensured by improving hand staining without any shrinkage or deformation. The material exhibited about 0.5-27 times less yellowing. Thus, it is thought to be a material that can reduce property changes and reduce the degree of relic fatigue which occurs during reprocessing and sense of difference from relic.
Mechanochemical effects that occurred in the fine grinding process of quartz particles using planetary ball mill was investigated. Quartz particles have been frequently utilized for optical materials, semiconductor molding materials. We determined that grinding for a long time can be create amorphous structures from the crystalline quartz by Mechanochemical effects. But, to be produced nano-composite particles that the critical grinding time reached for composite materials in a short time. Henceforth, a qualitative estimation must be conducted on the filler for EMC(Epoxy molding compound) materials. It can be produced mechanochemically treated composite materials and also an integrated grinding efficiency considering of the nano-composite amorphous structured particles. The mechanochemical characteristics were evaluated based on particle morphology, size distribution, specific surface area, density and the amount of amorphous phase materials into the particle surface. The grinding operation in the planetary ball mill can be classified into three stages. During the first stage, initial particle size was reduced for the increase of specific surface area. In the second stage, the specific surface areas increased in spite of the increase in particle size. The final stage as a critical grinding stage, the ground quartz was considered mechanochemically treated particles as a nano- composite amorphous structured particles. The development of amorphous phase on the particle surface was evaluated by X-ray diffractometry, thermal gravity analysis and IR spectrometer. The amount of amorphous phase of particles ground for 2048 minutes was 85.3% and 88.2% by X-ray analysis and thermal gravity analysis, respectively.

It is important to increase the strength of binders in order to enhance the strength of concrete. However, when the mineral admixture used for high strength concrete is incorporated individually, its dispersibility decreases due to the phenomenon of compaction, which reduces its fluidity and results in insufficient strength being created. To solve this problem, we can pre-mix each binder in advance to disperse a mineral admixture among binders, which will strengthen the fluidity and strength of concrete. Therefore, this study analyzed the properties of high strength concrete depending on the mix method used, to determine the effect of pre-mix cements ranging from W/B 15 to 35%. It was found that the fluidity of pre-mix increased to a level higher than that of individual mix due to its dispersion and ball bearing effect. The air content was slightly decreased from the result of individual mix due to the micro filler effect, which causes fine particles of silica-fume to fill the voids among cement particles, while the setting time of pre-mix was shorter than that of individual mix, because enhanced dispersion of pre-mix affects hydration heat time. The compressive strength of pre-mix increased due to the phenomenon of compaction of gap structure, and the variation of coefficient decreased by 1.69% on average in strength variation.
For various types of the Pungchon limestone, diverse mineral characters of the limestone including their size and morphology are investigated by using of ELS and SEM to examine the possibility of application as fillers to paper industry. Also, the measurement of zeta potential and the evaluation of coagulation properties in calcite suspension was made for fine powders of the limestone to examine the applicability and efficiency in wet-papermaking process. Fine powder of the Pungchon lime-stone, largely controlled by original mineral characters of ore in mineralogical aspects, exhibits some-what different trend in particle morphology according to ore types, and thereby, the size distribution, zeta potential and coagulation properties also become different. The examined whiteness, brightness, opacity and sheet strength in hand sheet also show remarkable differences according to ore types. These are seemed to be basically due to the results of combined effects of whiteness, site distribution, refractive index, and morphology of the limestone powder on the properties of hand sheet. Considering the investigated results, all types of the Pungchon limestone appear to be sufficiently applicable to paper industry. Especially, the mega-crystalline calcite type is evaluated to be overall suitable for the purpose of paper industry due to the higher values in whiteness and brightness. In addition the fine powder of micro-crystalline calcite type is assessed particularly to have a good quality in sheet strength by virtue of irregular particle shape.

This study qualitatively reviewed effect of the height of loading and the ratio of penetration on. the characteristics of deformation of cellular bulkhead by performing a model test of embedded steel plate cellular bulkhead which had different loading height and penetration ratio. And we also examined the effect of the loading height upon the shear behavior by performing two-dimensional model test making use of aluminum rods for a filler. Besides, test results and theoretical values based on Hansen's earth pressure theory were compared and reviewed. In consequence, it was ascertained that the yield moment of cells depended on the height of loading and the ratio of penetration, and the slip surface was located on the lower area of a cell interior according as the height of loading becomes lower. The theoretical consideration which was based on the theory of earth pressure proposed by Hansen revealed that the test results accorded with the theoretical values to some degree, and the same results were derived about the location change of the slip surface.

The binder for hot mix type colored pavement must have the same physical qualities as the straight asphalt cement, but its color must not be dark-brown. We developed a kind of synthetic resin binder with light yellow color and confirmed its possibility as a binder for colored pavement through the several comparison tests between the straight asphalt cement concrete mixture and the mixture of binder and aggregate for colored pavement. For the pigment, it has been assured through tests that home products have the possiblities to be used. The binder has come to the stage of practical use through the trial mixing by asphalt mixing plant and the trial field placing. The mixing operation and the paving method of colored mixture are same as normal asphalt concrete mixture, but the quantity of pigment replaces that of mineral filler. The required content of pigment is decided by the trial mixing with other materials to be used.
