  • A burr has been defined as undesirable projection of material formed as a result of plastic flow from a cutting or shearing operation. It is unavoidable in all kinds of machining operation. As a result, burr makes troubles on manufacturing process due to deburring cost, quality of products and productivity. In this study, the primary interest is about exit burr. The burr formation mechanism in each type of burr is classified. Data bases are developed to predict burr formation result. In the milling operation, we develop an algorithm to analyze the burr formation mechanism by the geometrical analysis on the multi featured workpiece with multi cutting path. The algorithm includes three steps, i. e., the feature identification, the cutting condition identification, and the analysis on exit burr formation. We can predict which portion of workpiece would have the exit burr in advance so that we can manage to find a way to minimize the exit burr formation in an actual cutting. Also, this algorithm can be implemented in a commercial CAM package so that we can simulate the NC code to review the burr formation in advance.

장비운영요소변화에 따른 석재측면 성형공구의 성능시험 연구 (A study on the capability of edge shape milling tool with the operatio parameters of equipment)

  • 석판재의 모서리 가공작업은 많은 경우 자동화가 이루어지고 있지만 제품의 형태 가 복잡해지면 여전히 수작업에 의해 연마가 이루어지고 있다. 본 논문을 성형공구의 제작 에 앞서 성형공구의 특성과 장비의 운영요소들의 변화에 따른 연마절삭성능을 파악하기 위 한 기본시험이 수행결과를 나타내는 것이다. 장비의 운영요소는 헤드의 회전속도 및 이송속 도, 가압하중, 급수율, 절삭방향과 이송방향이 포함된다. 실험결과는 연마절삭성능 즉 공구 마모 무게에 대한 판재의 절삭량으로 표시하였고, 각 운영요소들 마다의 적정 운영수준이 제시되어 있다. 또한 연마재 투입략의 변화에 대한 마모시험에서는 마모도는 연마재의 증가 에 따라 증가하지만 어느 이상의 양에서는 오히려 감소하고 있다.

Cross-Sectional Transmission Electron Microscopy Specimen Preparation Technique by Backside Ar Ion Milling

  • Backside Ar ion milling technique for the preparation of cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (TEM) specimens, and backside-ion milling combined with focused ion beam (FIB) operation for electron holography were introduced in this paper. The backside Ar ion milling technique offers advantages in preparing cross-sectional specimens having thin, smooth and uniform surfaces with low surface damages. The back-side ion milling combined with the FIB technique could be used to observe the two-dimensional p-n junction profiles in semiconductors with the sample quality sufficient for an electron holography study. These techniques have useful applications for accurate TEM analysis of the microstructure of materials or electronic devices such as arrayed hole patterns, three-dimensional integrated circuits, and also relatively thick layers (> $1{\mu}m$).

밀링공구의 마모 감시에 관한 연구 (A Study on the monitoring of tool wear in face milling operation)

  • In order to monitor the tool wear in milling operation, cutting force is measured as the tool wear increased. The digital signal processing methods are used to detect the tool wear . As AR parameter extract the feature of tool wear , it can be used as input parameter of pattern classifier. The FFT monitor the tool wear exactly , but it can not do real time signal processing. The band energy method can be used to real time monitoring of tool wear ,but int can degrade the exact monitoring.

  • The applicability of a new method, termed the whirling motion concept, for the improvement of the surface finish in milling three-dimensional sculptured surfaces has been investigated. A method for implementing this concept o conventional NC machines that utilize a suitably configured attachment has been proposed. The tool path equation for the ball-end milling process, based on the surface-shaping system, has been obtained. Both results of the computer simulation and the experiment verified the proposed approach.

  • In milling process, monitoring and diagosis system is very importent to accomplish factory automation. In this study, to drvelope on-line tool breakage detection system in face milling operation, analysis and experiment were performed. The tool breakage detection experiment was performed in machining center and the effectiveness of the detection tool breakage detection alorithm and the usage of feed drive current as a detection signal were verified.

  • The applicability of a new method, termed the whirling motion concept, for the iprovement of the surface finish in milling three-dimensional sculptured surfaces has been investigated.   • A probabilistic model of burr formation in face milling of gray cast iron is proposed. During a face milling operation, an irregular pattern of the edge profile consisting of burrs and edge breakouts is observed at the end of cut. Based on the metal cutting theory, we derive a probabilistic model. The operational bayesian modeling approach is adopted to include the relevant theory in the model.

  • 본 연구에서는 수직 밀링에서 탄소섬유 에폭시 복합재료를 절삭할 경우 절삭 조건에 따른 공구마멸 형태를 조사하였으며, 여유면 마멸량을 측정하여 Taylor 지수를 구하였다. 또한 절삭조건 및 측정 방향에 따른 표면거칠기를 조사하여 탄소섬유 에 폭시 복합재료의 가공특성을 조사하였다.

  • In the end milling operation the deflection of the cutter is an important factor affecting the accuracy of machining with implications on the selection of cutting parameters and economics of the operation. The deflection of the end mill was studied both experimentally with strain gauge, tool dynamometer, laser measuring apparatus and on a finite element model of the cutting using ANSYS software. The deflection of machining tool with various helix angles was studied with FEM simulation and experiment. ANSYS analysis performed on the finite element model of the end mill provides deflection results which agree within 15.0% with the experimental ones.
