The experimental research was conducted to find an end mill with an ideal helix angle, which has a superior anti-vibration effect and a low machining tolerance. A conventional endmill which all low blades are $30^{\circ}$ helix angles and a different helix angle endmill which the opposite two blades are $30^{\circ}$ and the other opposites are different helix angles were studied. The cutting farce, machining tolerance and surface roughness were obtained. The AE signals appeared to have low values in up-milling rather than in down-milling. These are also appeared to have low values at low spindle revolutions rates. The cutting force values of Fxy and Fxyz were found to be increased according to the value of helix angle. In up-milling, it was difficult to find a definite tendency in machining tolerance, but in down-milling machining tolerance of the different helix angle end mill was found to be lower than that of the convention end mill. There is a definite tendency that the surface roughness gets better as the RPM increases. In down-milling, Type A($25^{\circ}$+$30^{\circ}$) appeared to bring the most satisfactory result.

Composite materials, being light-weight and of high mechanical strength, are increasingly used in various industries such as the aerospace, automobile, sporting-goods manufacturing, and ship-building industries. Recently, manufacturing of composite materials using 3D printers has increased. 3D-printed composite materials are made in free-form and adapted for end-use by adjusting the fiber content and orientation. However, research on the machining of 3D printed composite materials is limited. The aim of this study is to develop a machine learning method to select machining conditions for machining of 3D-printed composite materials. The composite material was composed of Onyx and carbon fibers and stacked sequentially. The experiments were performed using the following machining conditions: spindle speed, feed rate, depth of cut, and machining direction. Cutting forces of the different machining conditions were measured by milling the composite materials. PCA, a method of machine learning, was developed to select the machining conditions and will be used in subsequent experiments under various machining conditions.

This paper presents analysis of dynamic characteristics of a high-speed milling spindle with a drawbar and a built-in motor. The spindle system with a built-in motor can be used to simplify the structure of machine tools, to improve the machining flexibility of machine tools, and to perform the high speed machining. In this system the shaft is usually assumed as a rigid rotor. In this paper, the modal characteristics of drawbar in high-speed milling spindle system due to supporting stiffness between drawbar and shaft and considering the mass and stiffness effects of the built-in motor's rotor are analyzed by numerical method. The result shows enough stiff supports must be provided between shaft and drawbar to prevent occurring drawbar vibration lower than the natural frequency of 1st bending mode of spindle. And considering the mass and stiffness of built-in motor's rotor is important thing to derive more accurate results.

Titanium alloy (Ti-alloy) is widely used as a material for core parts of aircraft structures and engines that require both lightweight and heat-resistant properties owing to their high specific stiffness. Most parts used in aircraft have I-, L-, and H-shaped thin-walled structures for weight reduction. It is difficult to machine thin-walled structures owing to vibrations and deformations during machining. In particular, cutting tool damage occurs in the corners of thin-walled structures owing to the rapid increase in cutting force and vibration, and machining quality deteriorates because of deep tool marks on machined surfaces. In this study, milling experiments were performed to derive an effective method for machining a L-shaped thin-walled structure with Ti-alloy (Ti-6Al-4V). Three types of machining experiment were performed. The surface quality, tool wear, cutting force, and vibration were analyzed comprehensively, and an effective machining method in terms of tool life and machining quality was derived.

Titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) has excellent mechanical properties and high specific strength; therefore, it is widely used in aerospace, automobile, defense, engine parts, and bio fields. Particularly in the aerospace field, as it has a low specific gravity and rigidity, it is used for the purpose of increasing energy efficiency through weight reduction of parts, and most have a thin-walled structure. However, it is extremely difficult to machine thin-walled shapes owing to vibration and deformation. In the case of thin-walled structures, the cutting forces and vibrations rapidly increase depending on the cutting conditions, significantly affecting the surface integrity and tool life. In this study, machining experiments on thin-wall milling of a titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) were conducted for each experimental condition with different axial depths of cut, radial depth of cut, and machining sequence. The machining characteristics were analyzed, and an effective machining method was derived by a comprehensive analysis of the machined surface conditions and cutting signals.

ISO 14649 (data model for STEP-NC) is a new interface scheme or language for CAD-CAM-CNC chain under established by ISO TC184 SCI. Up to this point, the new language is mainly made for milling and turning, and other processes such as EDM will be completed in the future. Upon completion, it will be used as the international standard language for e-manufacturing paradigm by replacing the old machine-level language, so called M&G code used since 1950's. With the rich information contents included in the new language, various intelligent functions can be made by the CNC as the CNC knows what-to-make and how-to-make. In particular, On-Machine Inspection required for quality assurance in the machine level, can be done based on the information of featurebased tolerance graph. Previously, On-Machine inspection has been investigated mainly for milling operation, and only a few researches were made for turning operation without addressing the data model. In this thesis, we present a feature-based on-machine inspection process by the 4 Tasks: 1) proposing a new schema for STEP-NC data model, 2) converting the conventional tolerance scheme into that of STEP-NC, 3) modifying the tolerance graph such that the tolerance can be effectively measured by the touch probe on the machine, and 4) generating collision-free tool path for actual measurement. Task 1 is required for the incorporation of the presented method in the ISO 14649, whose current version does not much include the detailed schema for tolerance. Based on the presented schema, the tolerance represented in the conventional drafting can be changed to that of STEP-NC (Task 2). A special emphasis was given to Task 3 to make the represented tolerance accurately measurable by the touch probe on the machine even if the part setup is changed. Finally, Task 4 is converting the result of Task into the motion of touch probe. The developed schema and algorithms were illustrated by several examples including that of ISO 14649 Part 12.

This work describes the modeling of cutting process for feedback control based on signal processing in end-milling. Here, cutting force is used to design control model by a variety of schemes which are moving average, ensemble average, peak value, root mean square and analog low-pass filtering. It is expected that each model offers its own peculiar advantage in following cutting force control.

The effect of tool angles on the surface roughness in face milling is studied. First, the relation between tool angles and rotation angles is identified. Using this relationship, it is obtained that the projection of insert nose shape on cutting profile, which is a part of ellipse. The effect of spindle tilt is also considered for the tool angles. It si shown that tool angles along with nose radius and feed rate have an effect on surface roughness.
