  • MIMO antenna is a field in which various researches have been actively conducted for a long time, and its design concept is universally well known. However, Unlike conventional MIMO antennas, MIMO antennas for autonomous driving radars, which have recently been attracting attention, are designed in W-band which is a millimeter wave band, and must also meet novel design conditions to satisfy the performance of autonomous driving radars. Therefore, a novel and different approach is required for the design and beam pattern verification of the MIMO antenna for autonomous driving radar. In this paper, a MIMO antenna is designed and the design process to satisfy the conditions of a W-band autonomous driving radar is introduced, and proposes a beam pattern verification method for a W-band MIMO antenna mounted on an autonomous driving radar system.

  • In this paper, the design and fabrication of slot array in the broad wall of the waveguide for Ka-band monopulse radar are discussed. The aperture distributions are designed for the desired antenna gain, beamwidth and Side-lobe Level(SLL), and then slot parameters, such as lengths and offsets, are obtained for corresponding to each slot admittance in the equivalent circuit by using Elliot's array synthesis procedure. MWS-CST simulation shows the return loss below -10 dB, antenna gain above 32 dBi, 3 dB beamwidth of 3.7 degree and SLL of -20 dB. In order to demonstrate the expected results, the designed antenna is fabricated and measured.

  • This paper introduces a signal processing technique for discrimination of ballistic missile's warhead. An interceptor missile to destroy the enemy's ballistic missile requires an information on the location of missile's warhead. In order to detect and locate the missile's warhead, a seeker radar in the interceptor missile makes use of chirp waveform to generate high resolution range profiles(HRRPs). We applied one of the well known spectral estimation technique called ESPRIT (Estimation of Signal Parameters by Rotational Invariance Technique) to these HRRPs to estimate scattering centers on the target. Using the information on the one-dimensional(1-D) scattering centers, we can find the location of the warhead by estimating the length of the missile, Simulation results show that the proposed signal processing technique is efficient in discriminating the warhead of an ballistic missile.

  • In this paper, the turnstile junction-based Ortho-Mode Transducer(OMT) is designed and manufactured. It is usually well-known that turnstile junctions have symmetry structure of waveguide so the higher order modes, which occurs inside the waveguide, can be cancelled. Because of these symmetrical properties, the turnstile junction-based OMTs have merits like high transmission and low return loss characteristic in broadband and two different modes propagate orthogonally in common port resulting in the fully realization of double polarization. The designed OMT has the application of Radar Seeker and operates in W-band(94 GHz), the millimeter wave frequency. The average of return loss value of manufactured OMT is lower than -20 dB and it has bandwidth characteristic of over 500 MHz.

  • Conventional traffic detection sensors such as loop detectors and image sensors are expensive to install and maintain and require different detection algorithms depending on the night and day and have a disadvantage that the detection rate varies widely depending on the weather. On the other hand, the millimeter-wave radar is not affected by bad weather and can obtain constant detection performance regardless of day or night. In addition, there is no need for blocking trafficl for installation and maintenance, and multiple vehicles can be detected at the same time. In this study, a multi-target detection algorithm for a radar sensor with this advantage was devised / implemented by applying a conventional single target detection algorithm. We performed the evaluation and the meaningful results were obtained.

  • This paper introduces a signal processing technique for discrimination of missile target. In order to detect and discriminate the target, a seeker radar makes use of chirp waveform and stretch processing to generate high resolution range profiles(HRRPs). RELAX(relaxation) algorithm, which is one of the spectral estimation techniques, was used to find scattering centers of a missile from HRRP. From the information on the distribution of one-dimensional(1-D) scattering centers on a target, we can discriminate the target without noise.

  • This paper presents the implementation and vehicle tests of a vehicle longitudinal control scheme for Stop and Go cruise control. The control scheme consists of a vehicle-to-vehicle distance control algorithm and throttle/brake control algorithm for acceleration tracking. The desired acceleration of a vehicle for vehicle-to-vehicle distance control has been designed using Linear Quadratic optimal control theory. Performance of the control algorithm has been investigated via vehicle tests. A millimeter wave radar sensor has been used for distance measurement. A stepper motor and an electronic vacuum booster have been used for throttle/brake actuators, respectively. It has been shown that the proposed control algorithm can provide satisfactory performance.

  • This paper suggests the dielectric resonator antenna using LTCC process for mm-wave car radar system. In this paper, dielectric resonator antennas (DRA) operated in 76-77 GHz frequency band are designed. And, using the LTCC process, the structures of dielectric resonator with SRR (split ring resonator) inside and those of dielectric resonator with probe inside are suggested. Linear polarization antennas and circular polarization antenna are designed for the DRA with probe inside. Three kinds of the DRA antennas are designed and their characteristics are calculated using CST RF simulation tool. The designed antennas are fabricated and measured and the measured results are compared with calculated results. The measured operating frequencies of DRAs are within 76 GHz to 77 GHz, which are close to the calculated results, and the measured gains are about 8.15 dBi to 10.82 dBi.

  • At the current camera-based technology level, sensor-based basic life pattern recognition technology has to suffer inconvenience to obtain accurate data, and commercial band products are difficult to collect accurate data, and cannot take into account the motive, cause, and psychological effect of behavior. the current situation. In this paper, radar technology for life pattern recognition is a technology that measures the distance, speed, and angle with an object by transmitting a waveform designed to detect nearby people or objects in daily life and processing the reflected received signal. It was designed to supplement issues such as privacy protection in the existing image-based service by applying it. For the implementation of the proposed system, based on TI IWR1642 chip, RF chipset control for 60GHz band millimeter wave FMCW transmission/reception, module development for distance/speed/angle detection, and technology including signal processing software were implemented. It is expected that analysis of individual life patterns will be possible by calculating self-management and behavior sequences by extracting personalized life patterns through quantitative analysis of life patterns as meta-analysis of living information in security and safe guards application.
