  • In this paper, we analyzed the performance of IoT based smart wearable mine detection device. There are various mine detection methods currently used by the military. Still, in the general field, mine detection is performed by visual detection, probe detection, detector detection, and other detection methods. The detection method by the detector is using a GPR sensor on the detector, which is possible to detect metals, but it is difficult to identify non-metals. It is hard to distinguish whether the area where the detection was performed or not. Also, there is a problem that a lot of human resources and time are wasted, and if the user does not move the sensor at a constant speed or moves too fast, it is difficult to detect landmines accurately. Therefore, we studied the smart wearable mine detection device composed of human body antenna, main microprocessor, smart glasses, body-mounted LCD monitor, wireless data transmission, belt type power supply, black box camera, which is to improve the problem of the error of mine detection using unidirectional ultrasonic sensing signal. Based on the results of this study, we will conduct an experiment to confirm the possibility of detecting underground mines based on the Internet of Things (IoT). This paper consists of an introduction, experimental environment composition, simulation analysis, and conclusion. Introduction introduces the research contents such as mines, mine detectors, and research progress. It consists of large anti-personnel mine, M16A1 fragmented anti-mine, M15 and M19 antitank mines, plastic bottles similar to mines and aluminum cans. Simulation analysis is conducted by using MATLAB to analyze the mine detection device implementation performance, generating and transmitting IoT signals, and analyzing each received signal to verify the detection performance of landmines. Then we will measure the performance through the simulation of IoT-based mine detection algorithm so that we will prove the possibility of IoT-based detection landmine.

  • In 2017, the U.S. DARPA coined 'mosaic warfare' as a new way of warfighting. According to the Timothy Grayson, director of DARPA's Strategic Technologies Office, mosaic warfare is a "system of system" approach to warfghting designed around compatible "tiles" of capabilities, rather than uniquely shaped "puzzle pieces" that must be fitted into a specific slot in a battle plan in order for it to work. Prior to cover mosaic warfare theory and recent development, it deals analyze its background and several premises for better understanding. The U.S. DoD officials might acknowledge the current its forces vulnerability to the China's A2/AD assets. Furthermore, the U.S. seeks to complete military superiority even in other nation's territorial domains including sea and air. Given its rapid combat restoration capability and less manpower casualty, the U.S. would be able to ready to endure war of attrition that requires massive resources. The core concept of mosaic warfare is a "decision centric warfare". To embody this idea, it create adaptability for U.S. forces and complexity or uncertainty for the enemy through the rapid composition and recomposition of a more disag g reg ated U.S. military force using human command and machine control. This allows providing more options to friendly forces and collapse adversary's OODA loop eventually. Adaptable kill web, composable force packages, A.I., and context-centric C3 architecture are crucial elements to implement and carry out mosaic warfare. Recently, CSBA showed an compelling assessment of mosaic warfare simulation. In this wargame, there was a significant differences between traditional and mosaic teams. Mosaic team was able to mount more simultaneous actions, creating additional complexity to adversaries and overwhelming their decision-making with less friendly force's human casualty. It increase the speed of the U.S. force's decision-making, enabling commanders to better employ tempo. Consequently, this article finds out and suggests implications for Korea armed forces. First of all, it needs to examine and develop 'mosaic warfare' in terms of our security circumstance. In response to future warfare, reviewing overall force structure and architecture is required which is able to compose force element regardless domain. In regards to insufficient defense resources and budget, "choice" and "concentration" are also essential. It needs to have eyes on the neighboring countries' development of future war concept carefully.

  • Sensor networks deployed in battlefields to support military operations or deployed in natural habitats to monitor the rare wildlifes must take account of protection of the location of valuable assets(i.e., soldiers or wildlifes) from an adversary or malicious tracing as well as the security of messages in transit. In this paper we propose a routing protocol GSLP(GPSR-based Source-Location Privacy) that is capable of enhancing the location privacy of an active source node(i.e., message-originating node) in the presence of multiple dormant sources(i.e., nodes lying nearby an asset whose location needs to be secured). Extended is a simple, yet scalable, routing scheme GPSR(greedy perimeter stateless routing) to select randomly a next-hop node with a certain probability for randomizing paths and to perform perimeter routing for detouring dormant sources so that the privacy strength of the active source, defined as safety period, keeps enhanced. The simulation results obtained by increasing the number of dormant sources up to 1.0% of the total number of nodes show that GSLP yields increased and nearly invariant safety periods, while those of PR-SP(Phantom Routing, Single Path), a notable existing protocol for source-location privacy, rapidly drop off as the number of dormant sources increases. It turns out that delivery latencies of GSLP are roughly less than two-fold of the shortest path length between the active source and the destination.

  • Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) can be used in various applications for military or environmental purpose. Recently, there are lots of on-going researches for detecting and tracking the spread of continuous objects or phenomena such as poisonous gas, wildfires, earthquakes, and so on. Some previous work has proposed techniques to detect edge nodes of such a continuous object based on the information of all the 1-hop neighbor nodes. In those techniques, however, a number of nodes are redundantly selected as edge nodes, and thus, the boundary of the continuous object cannot be presented accurately. In this paper, we propose a new edge detection method in which edge nodes of the continuous object are detected based on the information of the neighbor nodes obtained via the Localized Delaunay Triangulation so that a minimum number of nodes are selected as edge nodes. We also define the sensor behavior rule for tracking continuous objects energy-efficiently. Our simulation results show that the proposed edge detection method provides enhanced performance compared with previous 1-hop neighbor node based methods. On the average, the accuracy is improved by 29.95% while the number of edge nodes, the amount of communication messages and energy consumption are reduced by 54.43%, 79.36% and 72.34%, respectively. Moreover, the number of edge nodes decreases by 48.38% on the average in our field test with MICAz motes.

  • Frequent terror or military attack by explosion, impact, fire accidents have occurred recently. These attacks and incidents raised public concerns and anxiety of potential terrorist attacks on important infrastructures. However, structural behavioral researches on prestressed concrete (PSC) infrastructures such as Prestressed Concrete Containment Vessel (PCCV) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) storage tanks under extreme loading are significantly lacking at this time. Also, researches on possible secondary fire scenarios after terror and bomb explosion has not been performed yet. Therefore, a study on PSC structural behavior from an blast-induced fire scenario was undertaken. To evaluate the blast-fire combined resistance capacity and its protective performance of bi-directional unbonded PSC member, blast-fire tests were carried out on $1,400mm{\times}1,000mm{\times}300mm$ PSC specimens. Blast loading tests were performed by the detonation of 25 kg ANFO explosive charge at 1.0 m standoff distance. Also, fire and blast-fire combined loading were tested using RABT fire loading curve. The test results are discussed in detail in the paper. The results can be used as basic research references for related research areas, which include protective design simulation under blast-fire combined loading.

  • Increasing the total length of waveguide-below-cutoff array(WBCA) as it is used to the duct in order to enhance shielding effectiveness, the design could cause higher cost, higher levels of difficulties in construction and the interruption a flow velocity. The multi-layered WBCA can compensate for this problem, which can be designed by crossing each waveguide layer. By conducting simulations from 2-layer to 8-layer structure, it can be observed that the shielding effectiveness increases from 52 dB to 75 dB. Comparing with the original WBCA in a shape of mono layer rectangular, our proposed waveguide becomes similar with the original value as the number of crossing layer increases. In addition, the analysis with the flow of fluid in the duct installed multi-layered WBCA are required. We demonstrate this analysis by doing the flow of fluid simulation, and concluded that the multi-layered WBCA has loss of flow of fluid less than unit rectangular WBCA.

  • At the computer games, we can experience a variety of environments using a virtual object. It is similar to that be trained in War-game simulator of the defense. Actual soldiers and a computer-generated virtual group(Computer Generated Force: CGF) in 3-D virtual battlefield environment are training. However, path finding algorithm, one of the techniques of simulation models, to the current level only considers the shortest time path. So, this current level at the special situation of the army in the battlefield for selecting the optimal path is limited. The focus of this paper is to select the least-cost path using the deadline with several different mission conditions(METT+TC). For the only shortest time path algorithm and the least-cost path algorithm using dealine,($d_t$, one of METT+TC elements), Its usefulness is verifying the change of the move spent time(t) for all possible paths and the fighting power of the combat troops(Troops ability, a) through a comparison of the total cost of moves(c(t)). According to the results, when considering the deadline, the proposed algorithm saves about 62.5% of the maximum cost.

  • Local composite quantile regression is a useful non-parametric regression method widely used for its high efficiency. Data smoothing methods using kernel are typically used in the estimation process with performances that rely largely on the smoothing parameter rather than the kernel. However, $L_2$-norm is generally used as criterion to estimate the performance of the regression function. In addition, many studies have been conducted on the selection of smoothing parameters that minimize mean square error (MSE) or mean integrated square error (MISE). In this paper, we explored the optimality of selecting smoothing parameters that determine the performance of non-parametric regression models using local linear composite quantile regression. As evaluation criteria for the choice of smoothing parameter, we used mean absolute error (MAE) and mean integrated absolute error (MIAE), which have not been researched extensively due to mathematical difficulties. We proved the uniqueness of the optimal smoothing parameter based on MAE and MIAE. Furthermore, we compared the optimal smoothing parameter based on the proposed criteria (MAE and MIAE) with existing criteria (MSE and MISE). In this process, the properties of the proposed method were investigated through simulation studies in various situations.

  • In recent years, frequent terror or military attack by explosion, impact, fire accidents have occurred. Particularly, World Trade Center collapse and US Department of Defense Pentagon attack on Sept. 11 of 2001. Also, nuclear power plant incident on Mar. 11 of 2011. These attacks and incidents were raised public concerns and anxiety of potential terrorist attacks on major infrastructures and structures. Therefore, the extreme loading researches were performed of prestressed concrete (PSC) member, which widely used for nuclear containment vessel and gas tank. In this paper, to evaluate the blast resistance capacity and its protective performance of bi-directional unbonded prestressed concrete member, blast tests were carried out on $1,400{\times}1,000{\times}300mm$ for reinforced concrete (RC), prestressed concrete without rebar (PSC), prestressed concrete with rebar (PSRC) specimens. The applied blast load was generated by the detonation of 55 lbs ANFO explosive charge at 1.0 m standoff distance. The data acquisitions not only included blast waves of incident pressure, reflected pressure, and impulse, but also included displacement, acceleration, and strains at steel, concrete, PS tendon. • In wireless spread-spectrum communication systems utilizing PN (pseudo noise) sequences, a variety of noise sources from the channel affect the data reception performance. Among them, in this paper we are concerned with the narrowband interference that may arise from the use of the spectral bands overlapped by the existing narrowband users or the intentional jammers as in military communication. The effect of this interference can be reduced to some extent at the receiver with the PN demodulation by processing gain. It is known, however, that when the interferers are strong, the reduction cannot be sufficient and thereby requiring the extra use of narrowband interference cancellers (NIC's) at the receivers. A class of adaptive NIC's are studied here based on different two cost functions. One is the chip mean-squared error (MSE) computed prior to the PN demodulation and used in the conventional cancellers. Since thses conventional cancellers should be operated at the chip rate, the computational requirements are enormous. The other is the symbol MSE computed after the PN demodulation in which case the weights of the NIC's can be updated at a lot lower symbol rate. To compare the performance of these NIC's, we derive a common measure of performance, i.e., the symbol MSE after the PN demodulation. The analytical results are verified by computer simulation. As a result, it is shown that the cancellation capability of the symbol-rate NIC's are similar or better than the conventional one while the computational complexity can be reduced a lot.
