A Study on Establishing Scientific Guard Systems based on TVWS (TVWS 기반 과학화경계시스템 구축방안 연구)

  • In recent years, the ROK military is promoting Defense Innovation 4.0 with the goal of fostering strong military based on science and technology equipped with artificial intelligence(AI) to prepare for the upcoming population cliff. In particular, at the present time of increased threats of North Korea, the South Korean military is seeking to deal with a decrease in military service resources through the introduction of a Scientific Guard System using advanced technology. TICN which is a core basic communication system to ensure the integrated combat capability of the ROK military is, however, limited to use as a based network for the emerging Scientific Guard System due to the narrow transmission bandwidth with widely spread poor reception area. To deal with this problem, this paper proposes TVWS-based Scientific Guard Systems with TVWS-based wireless network construction technology that has been available for free in Korea since 2017. The TVWS-based Scientific Guard System proposed in this paper, when compared to the existing wired network-based Scientific Guard Systems, has various advantages in terms of minimizing operational gaps, reducing construction costs, and flexibility in installation and operation.

A Dataset of Ground Vehicle Targets from Satellite SAR Images and Its Application to Detection and Instance Segmentation (위성 SAR 영상의 지상차량 표적 데이터 셋 및 탐지와 객체분할로의 적용)

  • The advent of deep learning-based algorithms has facilitated researches on target detection from synthetic aperture radar(SAR) imagery. While most of them concentrate on detection tasks for ships with open SAR ship datasets and for aircraft from SAR scenes of airports, there is relatively scarce researches on the detection of SAR ground vehicle targets where several adverse factors such as high false alarm rates, low signal-to-clutter ratios, and multiple targets in close proximity are predicted to degrade the performances. In this paper, a dataset of ground vehicle targets acquired from TerraSAR-X(TSX) satellite SAR images is presented. Then, both detection and instance segmentation are simultaneously carried out on this dataset based on the deep learning-based Mask R-CNN. Finally, this paper shows the future research directions to further improve the performances of detecting the SAR ground vehicle targets.

  • In the R&D of the Defense Weapon System, the evaluation of technical and operational aspects has been developed with the military's own test evaluation system, and organizations and procedures have been established and implemented. However, with the recent advancement of information and communication technology in the private sector, it is often necessary to test-apply it to the field by enhancing the operability and suitability of technologies required for defense before development is complete. This paper investigates and analyzes the process for conducing empirical tests on the latest AI vaccine system R&D prototype organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT which proposes an improved demonstration plan for the existing military information system test evaluation procedure. In addition, under the specificity and security of the defense environment, we would like to present a practical demonstration plan and the improvement of the process for demonstrating the security technology prototype.

Clinical Efficacy of Endoscopic Pancreatic Drainage for Pain Relief with Malignant Pancreatic Duct Obstruction

  • Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the efficacy of pancreatic drainage for pain relief in advanced pancreatic cancer. Method: Seventy-one patients with pancreatic carcinoma were divided into two groups: dilated and non-dilated pancreatic ducts. All patients underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic biliary stenting and pancreatic stenting. Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores, pain remission rates and survival time were evaluated during follow-up. Results: The post-ERCP VAS score of the dilated group was lower than that of the non-dilated group at 1 and 3 months post-ERCP. There was no difference at 6 months. The pain remission rate in the dilated duct group was significantly higher than that in non-dilated duct group in 1 and 3 months post-ERCP. The median survival times were 8.17 and 8.22 months respectively. Conclusion: Endoscopic pancreatic drainage can relieve pain of advanced pancreatic cancer accompanied by safe dilation of the pancreatic duct.

FAST Design for Large-Scale Satellite Image Processing (대용량 위성영상 처리를 위한 FAST 시스템 설계)

  • This study proposes a distributed parallel processing system, called the Fast Analysis System for remote sensing daTa(FAST), for large-scale satellite image processing and analysis. FAST is a system that designs jobs in vertices and sequences, and distributes and processes them simultaneously. FAST manages data based on the Hadoop Distributed File System, controls entire jobs based on Apache Spark, and performs tasks in parallel in multiple slave nodes based on a docker container design. FAST enables the high-performance processing of progressively accumulated large-volume satellite images. Because the unit task is performed based on Docker, it is possible to reuse existing source codes for designing and implementing unit tasks. Additionally, the system is robust against software/hardware faults. To prove the capability of the proposed system, we performed an experiment to generate the original satellite images as ortho-images, which is a pre-processing step for all image analyses. In the experiment, when FAST was configured with eight slave nodes, it was found that the processing of a satellite image took less than 30 sec. Through these results, we proved the suitability and practical applicability of the FAST design.

Regulatory Mechanisms of Annexin-Induced Chemotherapy Resistance in Cisplatin Resistant Lung Adenocarcinoma

  • Adenocarcinoma of lung has high incidence and a poor prognosis, woith chemotherapy as the main therapeutic tool, most commonly with cisplatin. However, chemotherapy resistance develops in the majority of patients during clinic treatment. Mechanisms of resistance are complex and still unclear. Although annexin play important roles in various tumor resistance mechanisms, their actions in cisplatin-resistant lung adenocarcinoma remain unclear. Preliminary studies by our group found that in cisplatin-resistant lung cancer A549 cells and lung adenocarcinoma tissues, both mRNA and protein expression of annexins A1, A2 and A3 is increased. Using a library of annexin A1, A2 and A3 targeting combined molecules already established by ourselves we found that specific targeting decreased cisplatin-resistance. Taken together, the underlined effects of annexins A1, A2 and A3 on drug resistance and suggest molecular mechanisms in cisplatin-resistant A549 cells both in vivo and in vitro. Furthermore, the study points to improved research on occurrence and development of lung adenocarcinoma, with provision of effective targets and programmes for lung adenocarcinoma therapy in the clinic.

  • Recently, as the demand for Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and artificial intelligence has increased, the seriousness of misuse and abuse has emerged. However, intelligent CCTV, which maximizes detection of abnormal behavior, is of great help to prevent crime in the military and police. AI performs learning as taught by humans and then proceeds with self-learning. Since AI makes judgments according to the learned results, it is necessary to clearly understand the characteristics of learning. However, it is often difficult to visually judge strange and abnormal behaviors that are ambiguous even for humans to judge. It is very difficult to learn this with the eyes of artificial intelligence, and the result of learning is very many False Positive, False Negative, and True Negative. In response, this paper presented standards and methods for clarifying the learning of AI's strange and abnormal behaviors, and presented learning measures to maximize the judgment ability of intelligent CCTV's False Positive, False Negative, and True Negative. Through this paper, it is expected that the artificial intelligence engine performance of intelligent CCTV currently in use can be maximized, and the ratio of False Positive and False Negative can be minimized..

Multi-objective Optimization Model for C-UAS Sensor Placement in Air Base (공군기지의 C-UAS 센서 배치를 위한 다목적 최적화 모델)

  • Recently, there are an increased the number of reports on the misuse or malicious use of an UAS. Thus, many researchers are studying on defense schemes for UAS by developing or improving C-UAS sensor technology. However, the wrong placement of sensors may lead to a defense failure since the proper placement of sensors is critical for UAS defense. In this study, a multi-object optimization model for C-UAS sensor placement in an air base is proposed. To address the issue, we define two objective functions: the intersection ratio of interested area and the minimum detection range and try to find the optimized placement of sensors that maximizes the two functions. C-UAS placement model is designed using a NSGA-II algorithm, and through experiments and analyses the possibility of its optimization is verified.

  • Hydrogen energy technology is gaining importance in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, offering military advantages when applied to military vehicles due to its characteristics such as reduced greenhouse gas emissions, noise, and low vibration. Korea's military has initiated the Army Tiger 4.0 plan, focusing on hydrogen application, downsizing, and AI-based smart features. The Ministry of National Defense plans to collaborate with the Ministry of Environment to expand hydrogen charging stations nationwide, anticipating increased deployment of military hydrogen vehicles. However, considering the Jet Fire and VCE(Vapor Cloud Explosion) nature of hydrogen, ensuring safety during installation is crucial. Current military guidelines specify a minimum safety distance of 2m from adjacent buildings for charging stations. Scientific methods have been employed to quantitatively assess the accident damage range of hydrogen, proposing a minimum safety distance beyond the affected area.

  • "군사기지"란 국가안전보장에 이바지 하기위해 군사기지 및 군사시설 보호법에 의해 보호되며 규정에 의해 출입통제를 실시하고 있다. 4차 산업혁명의 시대가 도래하고 있지만 군사기지의 출입통제 시스템은 수년간 변화가 없다. 빅데이터, AI, 블록체인 등을 춥입통제 시스템에 접목하여 출입자의 동선, 시간 등을 파악해 데이터로 축적하고, AI를 활용하여 컴퓨터가 능동적으로 통제한다면 통제인력의 감소 또는 더 중요한 곳에 배치하여 활용이 가능하며, 암호화된 보안기술을 적용하여 군사기지의 생존성을 증대시키고 출입자들의 불편함을 해소시켜 줄 것이라고 판단된다.
