  • The purpose of this study is to understand how Vietnamese migrated women's family members understand cultural differences and to review the causes and types of family conflict during the acculturation. To do this, the researcher interviewed 10 cases which consist of three family members in a case: a Vietnamese migrated woman, her husband and mother in law. Research results are as follows. First, they are three main factors such as different ways to communicate, patriarchic ways of thinking and different ways of daily life which have caused family conflict. The conflict caused has been reinforced by anger and frustration against other family members. However, based on understanding on the preciousness of family and importance of inter-respect, it is still on going to find out the moderate way to manage family conflict among their family members. This study has practical and methodological significances. At policy and practice level, this research stresses on the significance of focusing on the family as a unit to be approached for policy and practice intervention. As the methodological aspect, the research tried to search the relationship among family members in the Vietnamese migrated women's family by including not only a migrated woman but also her husband and mother in law. However, there is a limit as it only focuses on cases which family members could manage the family conflict.

  • Objective : Although endoscopic procedures for lumbar disc diseases have improved greatly, the postoperative outcomes for high grade inferior migrated discs are not satisfactory. Because of anatomic limitations, a rigid endoscope cannot reach all lesions effectively. The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of endoscopic transforaminal suprapedicular approach to high grade inferior-migrated lumbar disc herniations. Methods : Between May 2006 and March 2008, a suprapedicular approach was performed in 53 patients with high grade inferior-migrated lumbar disc herniations using a rigid endoscope and a semi-rigid flexible curved probe. One-to-four hours after surgery, the presence of remnant discs was checked with MRI. The outcomes were evaluated with the visual analogue scale (VAS) score and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) one week after surgery. Results : The L2-3 level was involved in 2 patients and the L3-4 level was involved in 14 patients, while the L4-5 level was involved in 39 patients. There were single piece-type in 34 cases and a multiple piece-type in 19 cases. Satisfactory results were obtained in all cases. The mean preoperative VAS for leg pain was $9.32{\pm}0.43$ points (range, 7-10 points), whereas the mean ODI was $79.82{\pm}4.53$ points (range, 68-92 points). At the last follow-up examination, the mean postoperative VAS for leg pain was $1.78{\pm}0.71$ points and the mean postoperative ODI improved to $15.27{\pm}3.82$ points. Conclusion : A high grade inferior migrated lumbar disc is difficult to remove sufficiently by posterolateral endoscopic lumbar dscectomy using a rigid endoscope. However, a satisfactory result can be obtained by applying a transforaminal suprapedicular approach with a flexible semi-rigid curved probe.

  • Based on accumulated data during 1977-2001, seasonal fluctuations of migrated aphids at Daegwallyeong highlands were analyzed. In addition, rates of PLRV transmission by migrated aphids were investigated by inoculation on indicator plant, Physazis floridana, and ELISA in 2000-2001, and the change of PLRV transmission rates by aphids was compared with that of 1989-1991. The average migrated aphid population densities in 1976-1980, 1991-1995, and 1996-2000 were 575.2, 2959.4 and 2281.6, respectively, showing gradual increase in recent years. The average peak time of aphid migration was from early to mid June during 1977-2001, showing any significant differences over the years. The dominant species, however, changed slowly; before mid 1980s M. persicae flied dominantly, but after mid 1980s Aphis gossypii did. Hahm et al. (1991) reported that PLRV transmission rate of migrated aphids during 1989-1991 was 6.7-10.0%. In 2000-2001, however, migrated aphids at Daegwallyeong highland showed 10.1-11.0%. Although present PLRV transmission rate was slightly higher than that of 10 years ago, taking increased population densities and diversity of migrated aphids into account, there was no significant change of PLRV transmission rate over the years.

  • The purpose of this project was to provide social adjustment programs for North Korean residents who might migrate into South Korea when free transmigration is allowed in the process of reunification. This study was composed of three parts. First, present social adjustment programs for defectors from North Korea were reviewed. Second, South Koreans attitude toward social adjustment programs for migrated North Koreans in the future was identified based on empirical survey research. Third, the social adjustment programs for migrated North Koreans were discussed from results of the depth interviews which were carried out with 10 North Korean defectors. To support migrated North Koreans' social adjustment in South Korea, this study proposed the first stage village which would have characteristic of group home. Education programs to support social adjustment of migrated North Koreans were developed according to their social adjustment stages. In the middle stage of adjustment model, education programs on living culture in South Korea could be adopted. Education programs related to the various aspects of living culture including consumption, clothing, food, housing, family, child rearing, adolescent education were specified and discussed in detail.

  • Few cases have been reported in which the femoral interference screw has migrated into the posterior compartment after an ACL reconstruction. It usually requires removal, because it leads usually to mechanical symptom. However, the arthroscopic removal of a screw is a technically demanding procedure, especially in the case of an intact integrated ACL graft or one that is encapsulated around the screw. We present a case in which a displaced femoral interference screw migrated within the posterior compartment 11 years postoperatively, after the graft had been successfully incorporated at the femoral site and showed good continuity on MRI and arthroscopic examination. Although it is often technically challenging, through the use of a posterior trans-septal portal, we can successfully remove a displaced femoral interference screw even in the most difficult locations in the posterior compartment without damage to ACL graft.

  • Due to the importance of the SiGe/Si heterostructure in the fields of thermoelectric and electronic applications, SiGe/Si heterostructures have been extensively investigated. For practical applications, thermal stability of the heterostructure during the thermoelectric power generation or fabrication process of electronic devices is of great concern. In this work, we focused on the effect of thermal annealing on the defect configuration in the SiGe/Si heterostructure. The formation mechanism of planar defects in an annealed SiGe/Si heterostructure was investigated by transmission electron microscopy. Due to the interdiffusion of Si and Ge, interface migration phenomena were observed in annealed heterostructures. Because of the strain gradient in the migrated region between the original interface and the migrated interface, the glide of misfit dislocation was observed in the region and planar defects were produced by the interaction of the gliding misfit dislocations. The planar defects were confined to the migrated region, and dislocation pileup by strain gradient was the origin of the confinement of the planar defect.

  • Transanastomotic pancreatic duct stent placement during reconstruction following pancreaticoduodenectomy is widely performed to prevent postoperative pancreatic fistulas and duct stenosis. However, stent-related complications, such as stent occlusion and migration, may occur. Here, we report a rare case of a migrated pancreatic duct plastic stent. After pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy, the stent migrated to the jejunum and served as a nidus of the stent-stone complex, which developed jejunal obstruction. The stent-stone complex was removed by explorative laparotomy.

  • Recently, exploration and development of oil sands are thriving due to high oil price. Because oil sands reservoir usually exists as a thin layer, multicomponent VSP, which has the advantage of the high-resolution around the borehole, is more effective than surface seismic survey in exploring oil sand reservoir. In addition, prestack phase-screen migration is effective for multicomponent seismic data because it is based on an one-way wave equation. In this study, we examined the applicability of the prestack phase-screen migration for multicomponent RVSP data to image the thin oil sand reservoir. As a preprocessing tool, we presented a method for separating P-wave and PS-wave from multicomponent RVSP data by using incidence angle and rotation matrix. To verify it, we have applied the developed wavefield separation method to synthetic data obtained from the velocity model including a horizontal layer and dipping layers. Also, we compared the migrated image by using P-wave with that by using PS-wave. As a result, the PS-wave migrated image has higher resolution and wide coverage than P-wave migrated image. Finally, we have applied the prestack phase-screen migration to the synthetic data from the velocity model simulating oil sand reservoir in Canada. The results show that the PS-wave migrated image describe the top and bottom boundaries of the thin oil sand reservoir more clearly than the P-wave migrated image.

  • Advances in communication technologies and the decreasing cost of computers have made distributed computer systems an attractive alternative for satisfying the information needs of large organizations. This paper presents a distributed algorithm for performance improvement through load balancing and file migration in distributed systems. We employed a sender initiated strategy for task migration and used learning automata with several internal states for file migration. A task can be migrated according to the load information of a computer. A file is migrated to the destination processor when it is in the right boundary state. We also described an analytical model for load balancing with file migration to verify the proposed algorithm. Analytical and simulation results show that our algorithm is very well-suited for distributed system environments.
