  • We present the two-dimensional distribution of stellar populations in five E+A galaxies from GMOS-N/IFU spectroscopy (GN-2015B-Q-15). Numerical simulations demonstrated that E+A galaxies formed by major mergers contain young stellar populations (e.g. A-type stars) that are centrally-concentrated within scales of 1 kpc. However, several IFU studies reported that A-type stars are widely distributed on 1kpc scales. In contrast, Pracy et al. (2013) found a central concentration of A-stars and strong negative Balmer absorption line gradients within 1 kpc scales for local (z < 0.03) E+A galaxies. They claimed that previous studies failed to detect the central concentration because the E+A galaxy samples in previous studies are too far (z ~ 0.1) to resolve the central kpc scales. To verify Pracy et al.'s argument and the expectation from simulations, we selected five E+A galaxies at 0.03 < z < 0.05. Furthermore, we selected the targets in the mid-infrared green valley (Lee et al. 2015). Thanks to good seeing (0.40.33kpc) of our observation, we are able to resolve the central 1 kpc region of our targets. We found that all five galaxies have negative Balmer line gradients, but that three galaxies have flatter gradients than those reported in Pracy et al. We discuss the results in relation with galaxy merger history.

  • Seasonal occurrence pattern of the peach pyramid moth (PPM), Dichocrosis punctfferahs, was studied by sex pheromone traps and mercury light traps in several Fuyu persimmon orchards under different control pressures in southern region of Korea in 2000 and 2001. Fruit damage by the larvae was also checked at harvesting time from 1999 to 2001. The pattern showed 3 distinct peaks; the 1st one in mid to late June, the 2nd one in mid to late August, and the 3rd one in late September. Number of PPM catches was higher in less controlled than in intensively controlled orchards. There were no persimmon fruits damaged by the larvae of PPM and persimmon fruit moth, Stathmopoda masinissa, in our samples from the testing orchards at harvesting time. Therefore, it is unlikely that these two quarantine pests are included in the exporting fruits. Considering flora adjacent to the tested orchards and zero levels of fruit damage by the larvae, there is a strong possibility that the moths flew from neighbouring chestnut trees or other host plants to be attracted to the traps in the persimmon orchards.

  • Spectroscopic data obtained by the Infrared Interferometer Spectrometer (IRIS) aboard Voyager 1 and 2 have been re-visited. Using the spectroscopic data and footprints of the IRIS aperture on the planet, we constructed images of the stratosphere of Jupiter at the emission bands of hydrocarbons including CH4,C2H6,C2H2,C3H4,C6H6, and C2H4. Thermal emission from the hydrocarbons on Jupiter originates from a broad region of the stratosphere extending from 1 to 10 millibars. We averaged the data using a bin of 20 degrees of longitude and latitudes in order to increase signal-to-noise ratios. The resultant images show interesting wave structure in Jupiter's stratosphere. Fourier transform analyses of these images yield wavenumbers 5 - 7 at mid-Northern and mid-Southern latitudes, and these results are different from those resulted from previous ground-based observations and recent Cassini CIRS, suggesting temporal variations on the stratospheric infrared pattern. The comparisons of the Voyager 1 and 2 spectra also show evidence of temporal intensity variations not only on the infrared hydrocarbon polar brightenings of hydrocarbon emissions but also on the stratospheric infrared structure in the temperate regions of Jupiter over the 4 month period between the two Voyager encounters. Short running title: Stratospheric Images of Jupiter derived from Voyager IRIS Spectra.

  • A parameterization of gravity wave drag induced by cumulus convection (GWDC) proposed by Chun and Baik is implemented in the KMA operational global NWP model (GDAPS), and effects of the GWDC on the forecast for July 2005 by GDAPS are investigated. The forecast result is compared with NCEP final analyses data (FNL) and model's own analysis data. Cloud-top gravity wave stresses are concentrated in the tropical region, and the resultant forcing by the GWDC is strong in the tropical upper troposphere and lower stratosphere. Nevertheless, the effect of the GWDC is strong in the mid- to high latitudes of Southern Hemisphere and high latitudes of Northern Hemisphere. By examining the effect of the GWDC on the amplitude of the geopotential height perturbation with zonal wavenumbers 1-3, it is found that impact of the GWDC is extended to the high latitudes through the change of planetary wave activity, which is maximum in the winter hemisphere. The GWDC reduces the amplitude of zonal wavenumber 1 but increases wavenumber 2 in the winter hemisphere. This change alleviates model biases in the zonal wind not only in the lower stratosphere where the GWDC is imposed, but also in the whole troposphere, especially in the mid- to high latitudes of Southern Hemisphere. By examining root mean square error, it is found that the GWDC parameterization improves GDAPS forecast skill in the Southern Hemisphere before 7 days and partially in the Northern Hemisphere after about 5 days.

  • Saturated nucleate pool boiling experiments for binary mixtures, which are consisted of refrigerant R11 and R113, were performed with constant wall temperature condition. Results for binary mixtures were also compared with pure fluids. A microscale heater array and Wheatstone bridge circuits were used to maintain the constant temperature of the heating surface and to obtain heat flow rate measurements with high temporal and spatial resolutions. Bubble growth images were captured using a high speed CCD camera synchronized with the heat flow rate measurements. The departure time for binary mixtures was longer than that for pure fluids, and binary mixtures had a higher onset of nucleate boiling (ONB) temperature than pure fluids. In the asymptotic growth region, the bubble growth rate was proportional to a value between t16 and t14. The bubble growth behavior was analyzed to permit comparisons with binary mixtures and pure fluids at the same scale using dimensionless parameters. There was no discernable difference in the bubble growth behavior between binary mixtures and pure fluids for a given ONB temperature. And the departure radius and time were well predicted within a ±30% error. The minimum heat transfer coefficient of binary mixtures occurred near the maximum yx value, and the average required heat flux during bubble growth did not depend on the mass fraction of R11 as more volatile component in binary mixtures. Finally, the results showed that for binary mixtures, a higher ONB temperature had the greatest effect on reducing the heat transfer coefficient.

  • The purpose of this study is to produce slacks pattern for pregnant women in the mid or second half period of their pregnancy according to the development figure of the body shell from a follow-up measurement. We here would like to produce slacks pattern for pregnant women constructed to fit better with their individual property in their figure and to help maintain the shape and beauty of the lower half of body and would compare it with two manufactured slacks pattern. The results of the study were as follows; 1. As the pregnancy proceeds, the height of natural-waist line went up spontaneously due to the projection of abdominal region, therefore, it was given darts at the front zipper part so that they could maintain a nice figure and to avoid possibility of feeling oppressed. To acquire a slimmer outfit, we made of the slacks-bottom narrower than the width at the knee line, and it worked out. 2. Sensory evaluation for appearance: According to the statistical of the result of 19items on the questionaire, all items showed significant difference(a0.01) between the new and A(bunka) B(Kim's pattern) method slacks pattern, with the new pattern having higher scores. The new drafting method proved to be better fitted, to fit the shape of bodies properly and to get a visual effect to look slim.

  • This study investigated the spatial characteristics of warming trends and the dipole-like pattern of temperature field in the Antarctic Peninsula using surface air temperature (SAT) of 10 stations in the vicinity of the Antarctic Peninsula. SAT data for the 1962-2001 period at 6 stations (Rothera, Faraday/Vernadsky, Bellingshausen, Orcadas, Esperanza, Halley) revealed in general the larger warming trends in autumn and winter except for Halley. The largest warming was shown for August in the west side of the Peninsula (more than 0.9C/decade). On the other hand, the recent 14-year SAT data showed the strong warming trends at 9 stations except for Halley in the earlier period (April-June) than August for the 1962-2001 period. The largest warming appeared in May at Esperanza and Butler Island. SAT of the two sides showed significant positive correlations over most of the period except for the mid- and the late 1970s, in which significant negative correlations were found. In the correlation analysis between SAT and sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies in the NINO 3.4 region, strong negative correlation was found in the west side of the Peninsula. Details of the correlation analysis exhibited that the negative correlation was significantly strong from the early 1980s to the mid-1990s. However, it was difficult to find significant correlations of ENSO with SAT in the east side of the Peninsula. So, in this study it failed to find out clearly the out-of-phase relationship of SAT across the Antarctic Peninsula.

  • Low frequency noises(up to about 200 Hz) such as booming are mainly caused by particular modes, and in general the solutions may be found based on mode controls where conventional methods such as FEM can be used. However, at higher frequencies between 0.3~1 kHz, as the number of modes rapidly increases, radiation characteristics from structures, performances of damping sheets and sound packages may be more crucial rather than particular modes, and consequently the conventional FEM may be less practical in dealing with this kinds of structure-borne problems. In this context, so-called 'mid-frequency simulation model' based on FE-SEA hybrid method is studied and validated to reduce noise in this frequency region. Energy transmission loss(i.e. air borne noise) is also studied. A dash panel component is chosen for this study, which is an important path that transmits both structure-borne and air borne energies into the cavity. Design modifications including structural modifications, attachment of damping sheets and application of different sound packages are taken into account and the corresponding noise characteristics are experimentally identified. It is found that the dash member behaves as a noise path. The damping sheet and sound packages have similar influences on both sound radiation and transmission loss. The comparison between experiments and simulations shows that this model could be used to predict the tendency of noise improvement.

  • This study empirically confirmed how an art infusion into fashion products affect consumer's preference through Study 1 and Study 2. Study 1 examined the effect of an art infusion and the difference of an art infusion effect according to self-monitoring scale by designing groups composed of 2 (art infusion: infusion versus non-infusion) ×2 (self-monitoring: high versus low). Study 2 examined the difference of an art infusion effect according to the luxury level of fashion brands by designing groups composed of 2 (art infusion: infused versus non-infused) ×2 (fashion brand luxury levels: high versus mid versus low). This study was conducted using a convenience sample of women in their 20s and 30s residing in the Seoul and Daegu region. In Study 1, 162 participants were randomly assigned to two experiment situations of art infusion. In Study 2, 192 participants were randomly assigned to six experiment situations of art infusion and luxury level of fashion brands. For the data analysis, we conducted reliability analysis, two-way ANOVA and simple main effect analysis using SPSS 18.0 statistics package. The results of Study 1 and 2 are as follows. First, consumer's preference was shown to be higher for fashion products with art infusion rather than fashion products without art infusion. Second, the positive effect of art infusion on consumer's preference was significant in the group of high selfmonitors. But there was a non-significant effect of art infusion in the group of low self-monitors. Lastly, the positive effect of art infusion on consumer's preference is higher in the case of a mid-level luxury brand rather than in the case of a high-level luxury brand and low-level luxury brand.

  • We present results of long-term multi-wavelength polarization observations of the powerful blazar 3C 279 after its γ-ray flare on 2013 December 20. We followed up this flare by means of single-dish polarization observations with two 21-m telescopes of the Korean VLBI Network, carried out weekly from 2013 December 25 to January 11, and at 22, 43, and 86 GHz, simultaneously. These observations were part of the Monitoring Of GAmma-ray Bright AGNs (MOGABA) program. We Measured 3C 279 total flux densities at 22, 43, and 86 GHz, showing a mild variability of a factor of 50 over the period of our observations. The spectral index ranged from -0.13 to -0.36 at between 22 and 86 GHz. The degree of linear polarization was in the range of 6 ~ 12 %, and slightly decreased with time at all frequencies. We found Faraday rotation measures (RM) of -300 to 1200radm2 between 22 and 43 GHz, and -800 to 5100radm2 between 43 and 86 GHz. The RM values follow a power law RMνα, with a mean α of 2.2, implying that the polarized emission at these frequencies travels through a Faraday screen in or near the jet. We conclude that the regions emitting polarized radio emission may be different from the region responsible for the 2013 December γ-ray flare, and that these regions are maintained by the dominant magnetic field perpendicular to the direction of the radio jet at milliarcsecond scales.
