  • The characteristics of non-point source pollutant loads in middle-stream of Nakdong River Were studied through analysis of pollutant loads of 8 sub-watersheds divided based on administrative district. The pollutant concentration of each sub-watershed was collected from Nakdong-River Water Research Institute and Daegu Regional Environmental Office, respectively. Pollution items analysed in this study were BOD, SS, T-N and T-P. High degree of non-point pollution was observed from Gumi, Goryeong, Gyeongsan, Daegu and Sungju, and pollution was usually increased during rainy season. This result indicates that a given pollution condition within the watershed can be more sensitive than location factor to the level of water quality. The main sources of non-point pollution were population and livestock, as well as landuse factor, and were found to significantly contribute to the water pollution. Alternative solutions for controlling pollution sources, therefore, should be provided to meet target levels of water quality in this region.

  • The purpose of this study is to derive a model to improve the execution ability of landscape policy by considering the characteristics of the region by analyzing the process and contents of the rural landscape policy. First of all, the adaptation stage manages the important and severely damaged landscapes of the village through the landscape agreement, and the rural community promotes the landscape business with the experience of carrying out a certain level of landscape activities based on the landscape agreement. In the mid-to long-term planning of areas where a high level of landscape management is required due to its high performance, it was suggested that the residents voluntarily decided on autonomous goals and activities and, the value of the landscape.

  • We have studied electro-optic characteristics of reflective optically compensated splay (R-OCS) cell. The initial configuration of this cell is in splay form such that a mid director lies parallel to the substrate and around it hybrid structure is formed symmetrically so the optically compensation effect exists. Optimized optical configurations could be achieved by using a single polarizer, a quarter-wave film and a cell with quarter-wane retardation. The optimal cell retardation is 0.34 μm, allowing to have large cell gap. The cell provides high contrast ratio of 80:1 at normal direction and the region with contrast ratio over 5:1 covert up to 160 horizontally and vertically at all wavelength range.

  • The flow field measurements were conducted on the planes between impeller blades, and the gap between the impeller and turbine blades under speed ratio of 0.4. The study showed that high velocity regions move from locations near the suction surface of the impeller to the pressure blade, shroud corner as flow progresses from the mid-chord of impeller passage to exit and out into the gap region. Planes 3 through 5 also showed flow reversal occurring in the area near the shell surface and progress far into the impeller passage from the impeller passage exit, near shell surface. This affected the converter efficiency negatively. This study would aid in the construction of higher accuracy CFD models of this complex turbomachinery device.

  • An overview of the spatial and seasonal patterns of phytobenthic communities is described from the intertidal zone at Hawon-Pando on the southwestern coast of Korea based on quantitative and qualitative estimates of macroalgae. There were considerable variations of macroalgal diversity and cover value with the intertidal levels. Tn general, the number of species decreased with increasing intertidal height. The upper region was dominated by Sargassum thunbergii. S. thunbergii and crustose red algae were dominant in the mid intertidal habitat. In the lower intertidal Corallina pilulifera and crustose red algae were the conspicuous dominants. Macroalgal community structure at Hawon-Pando is discussed in the context of functional-form groups. The Hawon-Pando intertidal is characterized as consisting of a relatively high cover of species assigned to the thick leathery, crustose and jointed calcareous groups, and is distinguished by a paucity of the filamentous group.

  • In 2001, extremely cold air covered Korean peninsula during mid-January, recording - 29.2C in Cheolwon region in Kangwon province. As a result, 4 cities or department below -25C and 10 cities or department between 20 to -24.9C were under the anxiety of cold injury in peach and grape. This survey and investigation was carried out to elucidate the characteristic symptoms of cold injury in peach and to obtain the basic information about the phenomenon, which could be occur in low air temperature.(omitted)

  • Using in silico approaches and RACE we cloned a full length trinucleotide (CAG) repeat-containing cDNA (cag-3). The cDNA is 2478 bp long and the deduced polypeptide consists of 140 amino acids of which 73 are glutamines. The genomic sequence spans approximately 79 kb on mouse chromosome 7 and the gene is composed of four exons. Standard and real-time PCR analyses of several mouse tissues showed that the gene is exclusively expressed in the brain and is not detected in embryonic stages. Within the brain, it is expressed throughout the forebrain region with predominant expression in the hypothalamus and olfactory bulb and very low levels in the mid- and hindbrain.

  • In the case of the trauma on the maxillofacial region occurred, we think that one of the most important thing is recovery of the function as well as reconstruction of the anatomical form. Especially, it has been that the structure of the surrounded temporomandibular joint has a great possibility to cause mouth opening limitation when a bit of displacement is caused. Therefore, in the case of the trauma on mid-face we think that we treat it after complete evaluate condition of soft and hard tissue surrounding the articular disc as well as fracture site. We report results of our study, since we obtained good results from our study concerning the refixation of the zygomatic arch, high condylectomy, coronoidectomy and myotomy for the patient being suffered from the arthrosis of the temporomandibular joint caused by insufficient fracture treatment of zygomatic arch and coronoid process.

  • Putative gamma aminobu%sic acid (GABA)-ersic elements in the basilar pontine nuclei were examined in the dos using an antiserum against GABA-glutaraldehvde-protein conjusBtes and the peroxidase-antiperoxidase method. GABA-immunoreactive neuronal somata in the basilar Pons exhibited various morphology with the majority being spindle-shaped or multipolar, while some were spheroidal. The size of GABA-orgic neuronal somata was relatively small (approximately 1020\mum) in diameter. GABA-immunoreactive neurons were scattered throughout the pontine nuclei, but the midline region of the medial nucleus at the rostral pons, the lateral nucleus at mid-pontine levels, and the ventral nucleus at the caudal pons exhibited a relatively greater concentration of cell bodies. A sparse number of GABA-ergic neurons were observed within the cerebral peduncle and along the ventral borders of the basilar pons adjacent to the middle cerebellar peduncle at the rostrocaudal levels of the pontine nuclei. These obsenrations provide anatomic evidence of how this inhibitory neural element performs its function in the cortico-prontocerbellar circuitry.

  • The Chebyshev collocation method in [21] to solve stiff initial-value problems is generalized by using arbitrary degrees of interpolation polynomials and arbitrary collocation points. The convergence of this generalized Chebyshev collocation method is shown to be independent of the chosen collocation points. It is observed how the stability region does depend on collocation points. In particular, A-stability is shown by taking the mid points of nodes as collocation points.
