  • Large span spaces have been widely used for various purposes including sports events in other countries. Due to increasing demands on multi-purpose use of such spaces, recently built large span sport facilities such dome stadiums have been required to accommodate sport events as well as performing events. Also, retractable ceilings and/or walls were generally adopted in those spaces for providing various event conditions. It seems obvious that the openings between diffuse fields and free field may cause difficulties in the acoustic design of such spaces In the present work, the acoustic characteristics of non-diffuse field has been investigated using 1/10 acoustic scale models. It was found that RTs at low- and mid-frequencies decayed faster than those at high-frequencies as the percentage of opening area increased. The decay rate of RTs at high frequencies were not influenced by increasing the area of an opening. Also high dependence of EDT on the percentage of opening area was observed at all frequency range. D50 was not improved by increasing the area of an opening up to 12.5% and then sharply increased. The application of Schroeder integration to evaluate the reverberation charateristics of coupled spaces may not be proper, since non-exponential decay process with double or triple decays of those spaces can not be properly defined. EDT seems more appropriate to predict reverberation at the early acoustic design stage of acoustically coupled spaces.

  • Although there have been many clinical studies about the facial trauma in the recent as well as in the past, severity and frequency of facial trauma are reported multifarious. It seemed to be because of variety of social, cultural, and environmental factors, and the view point of investigators. In this study, we investigated about the patients visiting emergency room during recent 5 years(1999-2003), and compared with retrospective study during former 5 years(1992-1996) in Dept. OMS Pusan Univ-Hospital. We are assessed the cause, type, demographic ect. And analyzed alterations of facial bone fractures during past 2 periods. the results were as follows. The total number of patients was increased slightly. 429 patients treated for maxillofacial fractures between January 1992 and December 1996 and 466 patients treated between January 1992 and December 1996. The male-to-female ratio reduced in the second period by a factor of 0.7. Patients in the age groups of 10-19 years and 20-29 years increased by a factor of 4.2 and 7.9 in the second period. Assaults and falls in the second period decreased by a factor of 15.4 and 7.9. But, traffic accidents and slip downs in the second period increased by a factor of 6 and 6.6. The mandibular fractures(70.6%) showed the highest incidence, followed by zygomatic bone and arch fractures(7.5%), maxillary bone fractures(4.0%), and nasal bone fractures(4.0%). In the second period, the mid-face fracture was increased slightly. So, the mandibular fractures(69.0%) followed by maxillary bone fractures(12.9%), zygomatic bone and arch fractures(8.0%), nasal bone fractures(7.0%). Ramus fractures and body fractures of mandible was increased slightly in the second period.

  • This study examined the research trends of sustainable development education in the family life area, focusing on papers published in journals specialized in the Practical Arts (Technology & Home Economics) subject from 1989 to 2018. The papers from three journals were selected based on the titles, abstracts, and keywords for their contents related to sustainable development education. The results were analyzed by frequency analysis and cross-tabulation. Sustainable development education has surged since the mid-2000s when national interest on this topic sharply increased. Rather than focusing on particular content areas in home economics, most research was conducted through an integrated approach. More than half of the studies were conducted in experimental studies, with the largest number of studies involving elementary school students. Of the three components of ESD, research on society was most frequently conducted, followed by the environmental area. The contents of the home economics curriculum and the details of sustainable development were related. More related research should be conducted so that various sustainable development education can improve students' practical problem-solving ability through Practical Arts (Technology & Home Economics) curriculum.

  • Novel influenza A virus, subtype H1N1 of swine-lineage, has been transmitted rapidly to many regions of the world. Rapid detection of the virus is essential to instigate appropriate patient care and public health management and for disease surveillance. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of novel influenza A (H1N1) virus in Korea using reverse-transcription real time polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR). Novel H1N1 virus was detected in a total of 8,948 nasopharyngeal samples from patients with influenza-like illness throughout Korea from August to September 2009. RNA was extracted from $300{\mu}l$of sample using an RNA extraction kit (Zymo Research, CA, USA). In the present study, Genekam kit (Genekam, Duisburg, Germany) was used to detect novel H1N1 virus. Novel H1N1 virus was found in 1,130 samples from a total of 8,948 samples (12.6%). The highest frequency was found in 10- to 19-year-olds (M: 29.3% vs. F: 16.4%), followed by 20- to 29-year-olds (M: 17.9% vs. F: 15.4%), 40- to 49-year-olds (M: 6.5% vs. F: 8.1%), 50- to 59-year-olds (M: 6.0% vs. F: 5.5%), and 30- to 39-year-olds (M: 4.6% vs. F: 3.8%). The mean positive rate was higher in men than in women (M: 14.7% vs. F: 7.4%). Novel H1N1 virus showed the lowest prevalence in patients over 60 years old. The positive rate increased daily and showed a significant high peak in mid-September 2009. In 19 provinces of Korea, Cheonan (41.1%), Busan (37.3%), Gangneung (33.3%), Jinju (32.1%), Ulsan (24.6%), Deajeon (23.7%) areas showed high frequencies and other provinces were found less than 10% of novel H1N1 virus. Since reverse-transcription real time PCR assay is rapid, accurate, and convenient, it may assist public health laboratories in detecting novel H1N1 virus. Moreover, these data could be useful for the management of patients with influenza-like illness.

  • This study compared between tropospheric column ozone by applying the SAM method to TOMS and OMI data for northern summer. Tropospheric ozone from the SAM represents a peak over the tropical Atlantic, where it is related with biomass burning. This feature is also seen in the distribution of the model and CO. Additionally, enhancement of the SAM ozone over the Middle East, and South and North America agrees well with the model and CO distribution. However, the SAM results show more ozone than the model results over the northern hemisphere, especially the ocean (e.g. the North Pacific and the North Atlantic). The tropospheric ozone distribution from OMI data shows more ozone than that from TOMS data. This can be caused by different viewing angle, sampling frequency, and a-priori ozone profiles between OMI and TOMS. The correlation between the SAM tropospheric ozone and CO is better than that between the model and CO in the tropics. However, that correlation is reversed in the mid-latitude.

  • Background: To evaluate mid-term oncological and functional outcomes in patients with prostate cancer treated by robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RALP) at our institution. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 128 patients with prostate cancer who underwent RALP at our institution between February 2008 and April 2010. All patients enrolled in this study were followed up for at least 5 years. We analyzed biochemical recurrence (BCR)-free survival using a Kaplan-Meier survival curve analysis and predictive factors for BCR using multivariate Cox regression analysis. Continence recovery rate, defined as no use of urinary pads, was also evaluated. Results: Based on the D'Amico risk classification, there were 30 low-risk patients (23.4%), 47 intermediaterisk patients (38.8%), and 51 high-risk patients (39.8%), preoperatively. Based on pathological findings, 50.0% of patients (64/128) showed non-organ confined disease (${\geq}T3a$) and 26.6% (34/128) had high grade disease (Gleason score ${\geq}8$). During a median follow-up period of 71 months (range, 66-78 months), the frequency of BCR was 33.6% (43/128) and the median BCR-free survival was 65.9 (0.4-88.0) months. Multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed that high grade disease (Gleason score ${\geq}8$) was an independent predictor for BCR (hazard ratio=4.180, 95% confidence interval=1.02-17.12, p=0.047). In addition, a majority of patients remained continent following the RALP procedure, without the need for additional intervention for post-prostatectomy incontinence. Conclusion: Our study demonstrated acceptable outcomes following an initial RALP procedure, despite 50% of the patients investigated demonstrating high-risk features associated with non-organ confined disease.

  • This study sought to identify the voice user interface (VUI) design parameters that evoked positive user emotions. Six VUI design parameters that could affect emotional user satisfaction were considered. The moderating effects of user gender and the design parameters were analyzed to determine the appropriate conditions for user satisfaction when interacting with the VUI. An interactive VUI system that could modify the six parameters was implemented using the Wizard of OZ experimental method. User emotions were assessed from the users' facial expression data, which was then converted into a valence score. The frequency analysis and chi-square test found that there were statistically significant moderating gender and AI effects. These results implied that it is beneficial to consider the users' gender when designing voice-based interactions. Adult/male/high-tone voices for males and adult/female/mid-tone voices for females are recommended as general guidelines for future VUI designs. Future analyses that consider various human factors will be able to more delicately assess human-AI interactions from a UX perspective.

  • In order to identify the trends and insights of 'startups' in the global era, we conducted an in-depth trend analysis of the global startup ecosystem using Google Trends, a big data analysis platform. For the validity of the analysis, we verified the correlation between the keywords 'startup' and 'global' through BIGKinds. We also conducted a network analysis based on the data extracted using Google Trends to determine the frequency of searches for the keyword or term 'startup'. The results showed a strong positive linear relationship between the keywords, indicating a statistically significant correlation (correlation coefficient: +0.8906). When exploring global startup trends using Google Trends, we found a terribly similar linear pattern of increasing and decreasing interest in each country over time, as shown in Figure 4. In particular, startup interest was low in the range of 35 to 76 from mid-2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but there was a noticeable upward trend in startup interest after March 2022. In addition, we found that the interest in startups in each country except South Korea is very similar, and the related topics are startup company, technology, investment, funding, and keyword search terms such as best startup, tech, business, invest, health, and fintech are highly correlated.

  • Drought, which has been increasing in frequency and magnitude due to recent abnormal weather events, poses severe challenges in various sectors. To address this issue, it is important to develop technologies for drought monitoring, forecasting, and response in order to implement effective measures and safeguard the ecological health of aquatic systems during water scarcity caused by drought. This study aimed to predict water quality fluctuations during drought periods by integrating the watershed model HSPF and the water quality model QUAL-MEV. The researchers examined the SPI and RCP 4.5 scenarios, and analyzed water quality changes based on flow rates by simulating them using the HSPF and QUAL-MEV models. The study found a strong correlation between water flow and water quality during the low flow. However, the relationship between precipitation and water quality was deemed insignificant. Moreover, the flow rate and SPI6 exhibited different trends. It was observed that the relationship with the mid- to long-term drought index was not significant when predicting changes in water quality influenced by drought. Therefore, to accurately assess the impact of drought on water quality, it is necessary to employ a short-term drought index and develop an evaluation method that considers fluctuations in flow.
