Microwave dielectric properties of the BSST ceramics with BaO compositional ratio (BSST계 세라믹스의 BaO 조성비에 따른 마이크로파 유전특성)

  • Microwave dielectric properties of 0.15(B $a_{x}$S $r_{0.05}$)O-0.15(S $m_{2}$(1-y)N $d_{2y}$) $O_{3}$-0.7Ti $o_{2}$(x=o.9~0.1[mol.], y=6[m/o]) ceramics were investigated with BaO compositional ratio. Sintered density and resistivity of specimens were independent on the BaO compositional ratio. In the specimen with x=0.975[mol.], dielectric constant, quality factor and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency had good values of 76.52, 3001(at 3[GHz]) and +0.71[ppm/.ceg. C], respectively. By comparing with the stoichiometric compositions of 78.14, 2938(at 3[GHz])+14.19[ppm/.ceg. C], dielectric constant and quality factor showed similar properties, but the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency was highly improved. (author). refs., figs., tabs.s.s.

  • The structural changes and the microwave dielectric properties of $Ba_{1-x}$/A$_{x}$/(Mg$_{1}$3//Nb$_{2}$3/)O$_3$(A=Sr, Ca=x0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0) were investigated. The densities of samples are gradually decreased with increasing x(BMN=6.1, SMN=5.22 and CMN=4.26 g/m$^3$)The crystal structure of BMN was untilting of oxygen octahedral. The structural changes of BSMN showed the antiphase tilting at x>0.4, and those of BCMN showed the antiphase tilting at 0.20.8. The variation of dielectric constant with Sr was small(BMN=32, SMN=30) However the variation with Ca was large the highest value was 42 at Ca=0.2(CMN=25) The maximum quality factor was 68,000 GHz at Sr=0.2 and the minimum quality factor was 3,000 GHz at Ca=0.2 (BMN=35,000, SMN=20,000 and CMN=23,000 GHz) The temperature coefficients of resonant frequency of BSMN were about 2 times larger than those of BCMN in all composition.ion.

  • These days, according to surprising development of communication enterprises, every soft of devices is getting smaller and cheaper. Among these Devices, microwave dielectric ceramics are studied and progressed briskly as the materials of dielectric resonator. Dielectric properties of BaO-S $M_{2}$ $O_{3}$-Ti $O_{2}$, one of the BaO Lnsub 2/ $O_{3}$-Ti $O_{2}$ (Ln=La, Sm, Nd, Pr…) system, synthesized by solid-reaction and coprecipitation method were investigated. Disk-type samples were sintered at 1250-1400.deg. C for 2hrs. As a result, single phase was not synthesized in both method. First created the second phase of S $M_{2}$ $Ti_{2}$ $O_{7}$, and then the last phase of $Ba_{3.75}$S $m_{9.5}$ $Ti_{18}$ $O_{54}$, Ti $O_{2}$, and $Ba_{2}$ $Ti_{9}$ $O_{20}$. When the sample was sintered at 1280.deg. C (in solid reaction method) and at 1310.deg. C (in coprecipitation method), it obtained highest dielectric constant (72.96 and 71.70, respectively) and high Q value. Above that temperature, dielectric constant and Q value decreased because of lattice defect according to oxygen vacancies........

Comparison of Geometrical Factors of Dielectric Resonators Prepared for the Surface Resistance of Superconductor Films: Field Analysis vs. Computer Simulation (초전도체 박막의 표면저항 측정용 유전체 공진기에 대한 Geometrical factor의 비교 : 전자기장 해석 대 시뮬레이션)

  • In the dielectric resonator method, which has been widely used for measuring the microwave surface resistance of superconductors, accuracies in the geometrical factors (G-factors) affect the uncertainty in the measured surface resistance. We compare the G-factors of short-ended sapphire resonator as obtained by using field analysis with those by using computer simulations: The former is obtained by using the analytic expressions for the electric and the magnetic field components inside the resonator, and the latter by using computer software. The G-factors as obtained by using the latter appear to be closer to those obtained by using the former as the resonator space is divided into larger number of sub-space, i.e., a tighter mesh, with a difference of ~8 % observed for a mesh of 14400 sub-spaces reduced to ~2 % for 114996 sub-spaces. Variations in the relative uncertainty in the surface resistance of typical $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}$ superconductor films with those in the G-factors are studied, which provides an upper limit of the relative uncertainty in the G-factors required for realizing the target uncertainty in the surface resistance. These results could be useful in estimating the optimum number of meshes for obtaining the G-factors through computer simulations.

  • Atmospheric Pressure Plasmas have pioneered a new field of plasma for biomedical application bridging plasma physics and biology. Biological and medical applications of plasmas have attracted considerable attention due to promising applications in medicine such as electro-surgery, dentistry, skin care and sterilization of heat-sensitive medical instruments [1]. Traditional approaches using electronic devices have limits in heating, high voltage shock, and high current shock for patients. It is a great demand for plasma medical industrial acceptance that the plasma generation device should be compact, inexpensive, and safe for patients. Microwave-excited micro-plasma has the highest feasibility compared with other types of plasma sources since it has the advantages of low power, low voltage, safety from high-voltage shock, electromagnetic compatibility, and long lifetime due to the low energy of striking ions [2]. Recent experiment [2] shows three-log reduction within 180-s treatment of S. mutans with a low-power palm-size microwave power module for biomedical application. Experiments using microwave plasma are discussed. This low-power palm-size microwave power module board includes a power amplifier (PA) chip, a phase locked loop (PLL) chip, and an impedance matching network. As it has been a success, more compact-size module is needed for the portability of microwave devices and for the various medical applications of microwave plasma source. For the plasma generator, a 1.35-GHz coaxial transmission line resonator (CTLR) [3] is used. The way of reducing the size and enhancing the performances of the module is examined.

  • In this paper, We analyze the optimum bias conditions of cascode coupled microwave mixer for maximum conversion gain mixer. Microwave self-oscillating mixer by two GaAs MESFET cascode coupled, to upper GaAs MESFET operating as a oscillator with high Q dielectric resonator and the lower GaAs MESFET operated as a mixer with low noise and high conversion characteristics. As a result of experiments, cascode coupled microwave self oscillating mixer according to optimun bias shows an 5.92 dBm oscillating power, -132.0dBc/Hz @ 100KHz at 5.15GHz and 3dB conversion loss.

  • The microwave dielectric properties and their related structural characteristics in solid solutions of (1-x) $Ba(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ -x $La(Mg_{2/3}Nb_{1/3})O_3$ (BLMN) have been investigated by measuring the dielectric constant${\varepsilon}r)$, Q value and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency$({\tau}f)$ and by observing the crystal structure using high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Microwave dielectric properties showed characteristic features for specific composition. Dielectric constant$({\varepsilon}r)$ showed maximum value at the composition which corresponds to the phase boundary between 1:2 ordered and 1:1 ordered structure. The increase in ${\varepsilon}_r$ may be caused by the rattling of ions by incorporating smaller ions and the disordered structure. The variation of temperature coefficient of resonant frequency${{\tau}_f)$ was investigated in terms of oxygen octahedra tilting.

A Study on Slot Coupled Capacitor Resonator for Non-Invasive Glucose Monitoring in Earlobe (귓불에서 비침습 혈당관찰을 위한 슬롯결합 커패시터 공진기 연구)

  • In this paper, the resonator with a parallel plate capacitor is newly proposed around sub-microwave frequency band and applied to earlobe for non-invasive glucose monitoring the human biological tissue. The capacitor including the earlobe as dielectric material is connected to inductive slot in the ground plane of the microstrip line. Based on the simulation, one port resonator circuit is designed and fabricated as a prototype. Three step glucose concentration levels(0, 250, 500 mg/dL) was tested, and its reflection coefficients($S_{11}$) were measured. Owing to high Q resonator more than 100, resonant frequency shift of about 9 MHz per glucose level of 250 mg/dL has been successfully measured. This proves that the proposed sensor is applicable to a blood glucose sensor.

  • Accurate measurements of the microwave surface resistance (Rs) of high temperature superconductor (HTS) films are important with regard to applications of HTS materials for wireless communications. As the surface resistance values of HTS films are usually extracted from the measured unloaded quality factor ($Q_0$) of resonators made of HTS films, it is essential to measure the resonator $Q_0$ with accuracy. The $TE_{011}\;mode\;Q_0$ of sapphire resonators with the endplates made of $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$(YBCO) film on $LaAlO_3$ is measured by using the S-parameter circle-fit method at a frequency of about 19.6 GHz and temperatures of 30 K to 90 K, which is compared with the measured values by using the Lorentzian-fit method. Good agreements are found between the two sets of $Q_0$ values measured by using the two different methods whether the resonator is used in a weak-coupling scheme or a strong-coupling scheme, showing reliability of both methods fur measuring the resonator $Q_0$ accurately. The $Q_0$ of sapphire resonators with a gap between the top plate and the rest of the resonator is also discussed.

Nacl Aqueous Solution Concentration Detection Using Slot-Coupled Capacitor Resonator (슬롯결합 커패시터 공진기를 이용한 Nacl 수용액 농도 검출)

  • In this paper, we proposed a high sensitivity sensor that can detect the concentration change of Nacl aqueous solutions by using a slot coupling capacitor resonator in sub-microwave band. The resonator applied to the sensor consists of a parallel plate capacitor connected to an inductive slot utilizing the ground plane of the microstrip line. Based on the measurement data of the dielectric characteristics according to the concentration change, the resonance frequency was determined in the UHF band where the concentration change is evident and the Nacl aqueous solution is inserted into the capacitor. Based on the simulation, the proposed resonator was designed and fabricated. The concentration level was varied from 0 to 400 mg/dl as 100 mg/dl step, and the transmission scattering coefficient ($S_{21}$) was successfully measured. Experimental results show that it is applicable to the concentration detection sensor in Nacl aqueous solution by obtaining minimum 1.8 dB($S_{21}$) at each step.
