Recently, construction materials have been guickly advancing. Especially, the rate of development of cement based construction materials is much quicker than steel or composite materials. In order to optimize the ductility and strength of cement based materials, Micro-Mechanics based fiber concrete called Engineered Cement Composite (ECC) has been developed and studied extensively by many researchers in the field due to ECC's remarkable flexural strain and strength capacities, many leading nation (i.e., US, Japan and European countries have reached the point of being able to use ECC in actual constructions. But, due to the belated interest in the field, Korea is lagging behind the leading countries. ECC's ability to use its short fibers to bridge micro-cracks (50-80㎛ in width) allows great ductility and strength. ,In this study, ECC with superior material capacities are manufactured using domestic materials such as cement, silica sand, metal cellulose, etc. Using only domestic products, the optimal W/C ratio and mixing procedures are determined.
For axial-type turbines which operate at partial admission, a performance prediction model is developed. In this study, losses generated within the turbine are classified to windage loss, expansion loss and mixing loss. The developed loss model is compared with experimental results. Particularly, if a turbine operates at a very low partial admission rate, a circular-type nozzle is more efficient than a rectangular-type nozzle. For this case, a performance prediction model is developed and an experiment is conducted with the circular-type nozzle. The predicted result is compared with the measured performance, and the developed model quite well agrees with the experimental results. So the developed model could be applied to predict the performance of axial-type turbines which operate at various partial admission rates or with different nozzle shape.

Spherical micro silica sol-gel immobilized enzyme beads were prepared in an emulsion system using cyclohexanone and Triton-X 114. The beads were used for the in situ immobilization of transaminase, trypsin, and lipase. Immobilization during the sol to gel phase transition was investigated to determine the effect of the emulsifying solvents, surfactants, and mixing process on the formation of spherical micro sol-gel enzyme beads and their catalytic activity. The different combinations of sol-gel precursors affected both activity and the stability of the enzymes, which suggests that each enzyme has a unique preference for the silica gel matrix dependent upon the characteristics of the precursors. The resulting enzyme-entrapped micronsized beads were characterized and utilized for several enzyme reaction cycles. These results indicated improved stability compared to the conventional crushed form silica sol-gel immobilized enzyme systems.
The effect of inlet mixer geometries on the two-phase flow patterns in square micro-channel with $600{\times}600{\mu}m$ was investigated experimentally in this paper. The 4 different mixer configurations based on the Y, Impacting, and two T types (gas and liquid inlets were switched) were used. The test fluids were nitrogen and water. The liquid and gas superficial velocities were 0.01~10 m/s and 0.1~100 m/s, respectively. Several distinctive flow patterns, namely, annular, slug-annular, slug, slug-bubbly, bubbly, and churn flow could be seen. The flow pattern maps for each mixer were suggested, and it can be concluded that two-phase flow patterns are not very sensitive to the mixer geometries. But the mixing behaviors of gas and liquid for each mixer were different for slug and bubbly flow. Thus, the characteristics of slug and bubble for each case were not same.
In this paper, the error compensation method of the low-cost IMU is proposed. In general, the position and attitude error calculated by accelerometers and gyros grows with time. Therefore the additional information is required to compensate the drift. The attitude angles can be bound accelerometer mixing algorithm and the heading angle can be aided by single antenna GPS velocity. The Kalman filter is used for error compensation. The result is verified by comparing with the attitude calculated by Attitude Heading Reference System with Micro Electro Mechanical System for a basis
The purpose of this study was to observe the changes of the elemental transmission and bond strength between the metal and porcelain according to various kinds of ion beam mixing method. ion beam mixing of $meta1/SiO_2$ (silica), $meta1/Al_2O_3$(alumina) interfaces causes reactions when the $Ar^+$ was implanted into bilayer thin films using a 100KeV accelerator which was designed and constructed for this study. A vacuum evaporator used in the $10^{-5}-10^{-6}$ Torr vacuum states for the evaporation. For this study, three kinds of porcelain metal selected, -precious, semiprecious, and non-precious. Silica and alumina were deposited to the metal by the vacuum evaporator, separately. One group was treated by two kinds of dose of the ion beam mixing $(1\times10^{16}ions/cm^2,\;5\times10^{15}ions/cm^2)$, and the other group was not mixed, and analyzed the effects of ion beam mixing. The analyses of bond strength, elemental transmissions were performed by the electron spectroscopy of chemical analysis (ESCA), light and scanning electron microscope, scratch test, and micro Vickers hardness tests. The finding led to the following conclusions. 1. In the scanning electron and light microscopic views, ion beam mixed specimens showed the ion beam mixed indentation. 2. In the micro Vickers hardness and scratch tests, ion beam mixed specimens showed higher strength than that of non mixed specimens, however, nonprecious metal showed a little change in the bond strength between mixed and non mixed specimens. 3. In the scratch test, ion beam mixed specimens showed higher shear strength than that of non treated specimens at the precious and semiprecious groups. 4. In the ESCA analysis, Au-O and Au-Si compounds were formed and transmission of the Au peak was found ion beam mixed $SiO_2/Au$ specimen, simultaneously, in the higher and lower bonded areas, and ion beam mixed $SiO_2/Ni-Cr$ specimen, oxygen, that was transmitted from $SiO_2\;to\;SiO_2/Ni-Cr$ interface combined with 12% of Ni at the interface.
The drilling mud is essentially used in oil and gas development. There are several roles of using the drilling mud, such as cleaning the bottomhole, cooling and lubricating the drill bit and string, transporting the cuttings to the surface, keeping and adjusting the wellbore pressure, and preventing the collapse of the wellbore. The fragments from rocks and micro-sized bubbles generated by the high pressure are mixed in the drilling mud. The systems to separate those mixtures and to keep the uniformly maintained quality of drilling mud are required. In this study, the simulation is conducted to verify the performance of the mud tank's agitation capacity. The primary role of the mud tank is the mixing of mud at the surface with controlling the mud condition. The container type is chosen as a mud tank pursuing efficient transport and better management of equipment. The single- and two-phase simulations about the agitation in the mud tank are performed to analyze and identify the inner flow behavior. The convergence of results is obtained for the vertical- and axis-direction velocity vector fields based on the grid-dependency tests. The mixing time analysis depending on the multiphase flow conditions indicates that the utilization of a two-stepped impeller with a smaller size provides less time for mixing. This study's results are expected to be utilized as the preliminary data to develop the mixing and integrating equipment of the onshore drilling mud system.
