  • In this work, Scalar Passive code in Lattice Boltzmann Method is employed to simulate two-phase flow of low Reynolds number in a micro-channel. The mixing characteristics in a micro-channel is a function of Peclet number. The mixing length increases with the Peclet number. It is found that with the inclusion of static elements at the channel, rapid mixing of two liquids can be achieved, as shown by the results of computer simulations. The enhancement in mixing performance is thought to be caused by the generation of eddies and by lateral velocity component when the mixture flows past static elements. The results indicate that the size of static element has more effect on the mixing than the number of static element.

  • In this paper, using micro-stereolithography technology, I fabricated a liquid analyzer to measure ion concentration of a solution. Micro-stereolithography is a technology to fabricate 3-dimensional structure by applying laser beam on liquid photo-polymer. This technology makes it possible to do preassemble fabrication without any extra assembling step after the process. So, the liquid analyzer could be fabricated at very low cost with very simple process by micro-stereolithography technology. The liquid analyzer consists of a chamber for containing the solution, a pump using piezoelectric effect of PZT disk, a static mixer and a sensor for measuring ion concentration using Pt electrodes.

  • This paper presents experimental results on stirring characteristics in a microchannel with structures changed. We fabricated a new chaotic micro mixer and made by a RP(Rapid Rrototyping) technology. Flow visualization for the stirring effect was performed by using pure orator in a reservoir and fluorescent dye in the other. Chaotic mixing was achieved by introducing periodic perturbation in the field of the microchannel flow by means of shaped structures. It was found that the stirring is enormously enhanced at larger bock-height.

  • Recently, analyzing system is studying for applying to biomedical engineering field, actively. Micro fluidics control system has been manufactured using LIGA (Lithographie Galvanoformung und Abformung), Etching, Lithography and Laser etc. However, it is difficult that above-mentioned methods are applied to fabrication of precision mold master efficiently because of long processing time and rising cost of equipments. Therefore, in this study, micro EDM and micro WEDG system were developed to analyze machining characteristics with tool wear, surface roughness and process time. Then, optimal machining conditions could be obtained from the results of analysis. As the results, mold master of staggered herringbone mixer which has a high mixing efficiency, one of passive mixer of Lab-on-a-chip, could be fabricated from micro pattern(< 50um) using micro EDM successfully.

  • We simulated the mixing characteristics in micro T-channel using Lattice Boltzmann Method. We studied the relation a mixing length and pressure-drop due to inlet and outlet ration in Reynolds number 0.5, Peclet number 500 and Schmidt 1000. The ratio of a down-inlet to up-inlet was $0.5{\sim}1.5$ times, up-inlet to outlet was $1{\sim}3$ times and outlet length was 250 times to up-inlet. The mixing length decrease linearly as outlet ratio decreased, and pressure-drip increase non-linearly. Initial stage of micro channel mixture was fast by down-inlet ratio, however, the mixing length is not influence.

  • Brittle materials, especially single-crystal silicon wafer, are widely used for sensors, IC industry, and MEMS applications. e general machining process of crack easy materials is by chemical agents, but it is hazardous and time consuming. Also, it is difficult to get high aspect ratio micro structure. As an alternative tool, an AJM(Abrasive jet machining) is promising method in terms of high aspect ratio and production cost. In this study, to get more precise detail compared to general AJM, photo polymer mask, SU-8, used in photolithography was applied in AJM. Process parameters such as abrasive diameter, air pressure, nozzle diameter, flow rate of abrasive in AJM and a variety of conditions in spin coating were decided. Finally, micro channel and mixer was fabricated to see the efficiency of the AJM with photo polymer mask.

  • The paper reports on a new type of combinatorial chaotic and serpentine micromixer. Such a new and novel micromixer is simple to fabricate and easy to use. The micromixer is characterized and visualized with the help of the Micro-LIF technique. The new micromixer will e further applied to lab-on-chip device. The mixing capabilities of this mixer is about 30-33%.
