  • Stone powder sludge is a byproduct of the crushed aggregate industry, and most of it is dumped with soil in landfills. The disposal of stone powder sludge presents a major environmental problem. This paper investigates the effects of stone powder sludge on the fluidity, density, strength and micro-structure properties of AAC(autoclaved aerated concrete) samples. Stone powder sludge was obtained from a crushed aggregate factory in order to investigate its applicability as a substitute for quartz sand in AAC. To determine the properties of the AAC samples produced with stone powder sludge, specimens containing different foam ratios were produced. Flow value, density, compressive strength, tensile strength and flexural strength of the samples were tested, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) was performed. The test results indicated that the compressive strength of AAC specimens (F120) with stone powder sludge was higher than that of AAC specimens (Q120) with quartz sand for same foam ratio of 120%. For all XRD diagrams, a higher number of tobermorite peaks was shown for the F120 sample than for the Q120 sample, which may explain the slightly higher strength gain in the F120 sample.

  • A three year's field experiment was carried out on newly reclaimed tidal saline soils to evaluate the salt tolerance and growht characteristics, and their relationship to dry matter production and nutrient quality of main selected pasture species. Nine temperate grasses (14 varieties) and two forage crops (sorghum and pearl millet) were grown under different mulching treatments with medium sand and red-yellow soils (fine loamy materials of Typic Hapludults) from 1986 to 1988. Tall wheatgrass, tall fescue, reed canarygrass and alfalfa showed a good tolerance to soil salinity, especially tall wheatgrass (cv. Alkar) produced 19.6 ton/ha dry matter yield annualy under mulching treatment with medium sand depth in lcm. Pearl millet (cv. Gahi-3) was also evaluated as a salt tolerable forage species. Under salt stress in newly reclaimed tidal lands, plant showed a decrease in the assimirable leaf area (LA) as well as specific leaf area (SP. LA) and a low leaf weight ratio(LWR), and it resulted in a low concentration of crude protein and low digestible dry matter contents. Absorption of macro and micro elements in the plant on tidal lands was increased markedly.

본 글에서 소개할 VPMF(Variable Pore Micro Filter, 가변세공 정밀여과장치)도 그러한 여과장치와 유사한 기능과 성능을 가진 정밀여과장치이다. 본 연구에서는 Caolin을 이용하여 50~100ppm 사이의 SS농도하에서 VPMF의 처리수질, 역세효율, SS포집능력 등을 평가해 볼 것이다.

  • Recently, construction materials have been guickly advancing. Especially, the rate of development of cement based construction materials is much quicker than steel or composite materials. In order to optimize the ductility and strength of cement based materials, Micro-Mechanics based fiber concrete called Engineered Cement Composite (ECC) has been developed and studied extensively by many researchers in the field due to ECC's remarkable flexural strain and strength capacities, many leading nation (i.e., US, Japan and European countries have reached the point of being able to use ECC in actual constructions. But, due to the belated interest in the field, Korea is lagging behind the leading countries. ECC's ability to use its short fibers to bridge micro-cracks (50-80㎛ in width) allows great ductility and strength. ,In this study, ECC with superior material capacities are manufactured using domestic materials such as cement, silica sand, metal cellulose, etc. Using only domestic products, the optimal W/C ratio and mixing procedures are determined.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate microbial removal using layered double hydroxides (LDHs) and iron (hydr)oxides (IHs) immobilized onto granular media. Column experiments were performed using calcium alginate beads (CA beads), LDHs entrapped in CA beads (LDH beads), quartz sand (QS), iron hydroxide-coated sand (IHCS) and hematite-coated sand (HCS). Microbial breakthrough curves were obtained by monitoring the effluent, with the percentage of microbial removal and collector efficiency then quantified from these curves. The results showed that the LDH beads were ineffective for the removal of the negatively-charged microbes (27.7% at 1 mM solution), even though the positively-charged LDHs were contained on the beads. The above could be related to the immobilization method, where LDH powders were immobilized inside CA beads with nano-sized pores (about 10 nm); therefore, micro-sized microbes (E. coli = 1.21 ${\mu}m$) could not diffuse through the pores to come into contact with the LDHs in the beads, but adhere only to the exterior surface of the beads via polymeric interaction. IHCS was the most effective in the microbial removal (86.0% at 1 mM solution), which could be attributed to the iron hydroxide coated onto the exterior surface of QS had a positive surface charge and, therefore, effectively attracted the negatively-charged microbes via electrostatic interactions. Meanwhile, HCS was far less effective (35.6% at 1 mM solution) than IHCS because the hematite coated onto the external surface of QS is a crystallized iron oxide with a negative surface charge. This study has helped to improve our knowledge on the potential application of functional granular media for microbial removal.

  • Fifteen lightweight concrete mixes were tested to evaluate the effect of maximum size of coarse aggregate and the replacement level of natural sand on the various properties of fresh lightweight concrete. The different properties, such as water absorption against the elapsed time, pore size distribution and micro-structure of lightweight aggregates used, influencing on the workability of fresh concrete were also measured. Test results showed that the initial slump of lightweight concrete decreased with the increase of the replacement level of natural sand. The slump of all-lightweight concrete sharply decreased by around 80% of the initial slump after 30~60 minutes. The air content and bleeding rate of lightweight concrete were significantly affected by the replacement level of natural sand as well as the maximum size of coarse aggregates. Empirical equations recommended in ACI 211 and Korea concrete standard specifications underestimated the air content of the lightweight concrete, indicating that the underestimation increases with the decrease of the replacement level of natural sand. In addition, equations to predict the air content and bleeding rate of lightweight concrete were proposed based on the test results.

  • Statement of problem : Fracture of composite resin core will be occulted by progress of crack. Bonding interface of different materials has large possibility of starting point of crack line. Therefore, the bond strength of glass fiber post to composite resin core is important for prevention of fracture. Purpose: This in vitro study tried to find out how to get the higher strength of glass fiber post to composite resin core through surveying the maximum load that fractures the post and cote complex. Materials and methods: 40 specimens made with glass fiber Posts(Style $post^{(R)}$, Metalor, Swiss) and composite resin core ($Z-100^{(R)}$, 3M, USA) were prepared and loaded to failure with push-out type shear-bond strength test in a universal test machine. The maximum fracture load and fracture mode were investigated in the specimens that were restored with four different surface treatments. With the data. ANOVA test was used to validate the significance between the test groups, and Bonferroni method was used to check if there is any significant statistical difference between each test group. Evely analysis was approved with 95% reliance. Results: On measuring the maximum fracture load of specimens, both the treatments of sandblasted and acid-etched one statistically showed the strength increase rather than the control group (p<0.005). The scanning electric microscope revealed that sand blasting made more micro-retention form not only on the resin matrix but on the glass fiber, and acid-etching contributed to increase in surface retention form, eliminated the inorganic particles in resin matrix. Specimen fracture modes investigation represented that sand blasted groups showed lower bonding failure than no-sand blasted groups. Conclusion: Referring to the values of maximum fracture load of specimens, the bonding strength was increased by sand blasting and acid-etching.

  • The present study was performed to evaluate the effect of citric acid on the change of implant surface microstructure according to application time. Implants with pure titanium machined surface, titanium plasma-sprayed surface, and sand-blasted, large grit, acid etched surface were utilized. Implant surface was rubbed with pH 1 citric acid for $\frac{1}{2}$ min., 1 min., 1 $\frac{1}{2}$ min., 2 min., and 3min, respeaively in the test group and implant surface was not treated in the control group. Then, the specimens were processed for scanning electron microscopic observation. The following results were obtained. 1. Both test and control group showed a few shallow grooves and ridges in pure titanium machined surface implants. There were not significant differences between two groups. 2. In titanium plasma-sprayed surfaces, round or amorphous particles were deposited irregularly. The irregularity of titanium plasma-sprayed surfaces conditioned with pH 1 citric acid was lessened and the cracks were increased relative to the application time of pH 1 citric acid. 3. Sand-blasted, large grit, acid etched surfaces showed the macro/micro double roughness. The application of pH 1 citric acid didn't change the characteristics of the sand-blasted, large grit, acid etched surfaces. In conclusion, the application of pH 1 citric acid to titanium plasma-sprayed surface is improper. And pure titanium machined surface implants and sand-blasted, large grit, acid etched surface implants can he treated with pH 1 citric acid for peri-implantitis treatment if the detoxification of these surfaces could be evaluated.

  • Plasma display panel (PDP) is a type of flat panel display utilizing the light emission that is produced by gas discharge. Barrier Ribs of PDP separating each sub-pixel prevents optical and electrical crosstalk from adjacent sub-pixels. Mold for forming barrier ribs has been newly researched to overcome the disadvantages of conventional manufacturing process such as screen printing, sand-blasting and photosensitive glass methods. Mold for PDP barrier ribs have stripes of micro grooves transferring stripes of glass-material wall. In this paper. Stripes of grooves of which width 48 um, depth 124um, pitch 274um was acquired by machining the material of WC with dicing saw blade. Maximum roughness of the bottom and sidewall of the grooves was respectively 120 nm, 287 nm. Maximum tilt angle caused by difference between upper-most width and lower-most width was 2$^{\circ}$. Maximum Radius of curvature of bottom was 7.75 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. This results meets the specification for barrier ribs of 50 inch XGA PDP. Forming the glass paste will be followed by using mold in the near future.
