Evaporation characteristics of single butanol gel fuel were investigated in different mass ratios of gellant and ambient temperatures. Gel fuel was made by adding the pure water and hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose (HPMC) into the 1-butanol. Increase of viscosity was observed when the loading of HPMC increased. The evaporation process of gel droplet could be divided into three stages: droplet heating, micro-explosion and crust formation. Elevation of ambient temperature helped boost the evaporation in all experimental cases, but the effect was mitigated when the mass ratio of HPMC increased. Increase of HPMC weight ratio reduced the evaporation rate.
The auto-ignition characteristics and combustion behaviors of one-dimensional array of water-in-fuel droplets suspended in a high temperature chamber have been investigated experimentally with various droplet spacing and number of droplets. The fuels used were pure n-decane and emulsified n-decane with water contents varied from 10% to 30%. All experiments have been performed at 920 K under the atmospheric pressure. The number of droplets in an array were fixed as 3 or 5 and its spacing was varied from 3 mm to 7 mm by 1mm interval. The imaging technique with a high-speed camera has been adopted to measure the ignition delay and flame life time. The micro-explosion behaviors were also observed. As the droplet array sparing increased, the ignition delay also increased regardless of water contents. However, the life time of droplet array decreased as the droplet spacing increased. The full combustion time in array of 3 droplets was found to be longer than that for 5 droplets case due to the longer ignition delay.
An experimental investigation was conducted on the influences of median size, dust concentration, dust condition (cloud and layer) for the fire and explosion hazard assessment of dusts with the same powder property. For this purpose, tests have been performed in accordance with 20 L explosion sphere, thermogravi- metric analyze, combustion rate tester (UN method). We investigated the explosion characteristics and flame propagation velocity (FPV) in dust cloud and the flame spread velocity(FSV) over dust layer on 8 dust samples with different particle sizes of 4 types of dusts (Sugar, Mg, Al, Zr). An explosion hazard increased with decreasing particle size in Mg and Al dust clouds, but sugar did not show the effect of explosion hazard due to particle size change in dust clouds. The flame propagation velocity (FPV) of suspended dusts increased significantly when the particle size decreased from micro to nano than the variation of particle size in micro range. The flame spread velocity (FSV) over dust layer showed a tendency to increase over the inclined dust layers (30° slope) rather than the horizontal dust layers (0° slope). The flame spread rate (FSV) over dust layers increased on the inclined dust layer (30° slope) rather than the horizontal dust layer (0° slope) and was higher upward flame than the downward flame in condition of inclined dust layers(30° slope).

Hole explosion behaviors were observed during drilling fine holes with laser beam on the LTCC green bar of $320{\mu}m$ thick after lamination of green sheets prepared by tape casting of thick film process. The incidence of these hole explosions was inversely proportional to hole sizes. The incidence of hole explosion was 20 % number of hole with the size of $60{\mu}m$ exploded for the UV radiation, while the explosion did not appear for hole sizes over $100{\mu}m$. To prevent hole explosion behavior during laser-drilling of fine holes, carbon black powder was added as an additive in the LTCC composition, which has superior thermal durability. As a consequence, hole explosion rate was suppressed to 0.8 % for the hole size of $50{\mu}m$ green sheet with the carbon black amount of 10 weight % and the laser power of 3 watt. Added carbon is thought to reduce the heat-affected region during laser drilling.

Micro V-notching process has been used to manufacturing the safety component in Li-Ion battery. These kinds of safety component in Li-Ion battery plays an important role in the explosion from excessive overheating. Therefore, it is very crucial to estimate accurately the working pressure range of the safety component with micro V-notch. In this study, the relationship with the working internal pressure in Li-Ion battery and fracture phenomenon in micro V-notch was investigated through the numerical analysis. The numerical analysis is especially adopted the finite element method with ductile fracture criteria.

The burr of micro drilling and micro cutting on thin metal film is a major obstacle to mass production for micro PCB boards in micro technologies of personal computing and telecom explosion. As the burr affects on the assembling process, it is necessary to study continuously on control or elimination of the burr. In order to get higher valued products, it is also needed to competitive techniques with the high resolution. In this paper, we studied experimentally the burr generation that when it is processed on the copper foil by laser in micro-hole machining. Unlike mechanical machining the burr produced on substrate is a resultants of melt and re-solidification of a melten metal which was heated and treated by laser. And higher laser energy increases the size of burr. Therefor in micro-drilling with laser, it is difficult to reduce the effects of burr for very thin metal sheets. We investigated the stale of the burr and analyzed the laser ablation Cu micro machining with respect to laser intensity and processing time.

This study investigates the blast resistance of fiber-reinforced cementitious composite (FRCC) panels, with fiber volume fractions of 2%, subjected to contact explosions using an emulsion explosive. A number of FRCC panels with five different fiber mixtures (i.e., micro polyvinyl alcohol fiber, micro polyethylene fiber, macro hooked-end steel fiber, micro polyvinyl alcohol fiber with macro hooked-end steel fiber, and micro polyethylene fiber with macro hooked-end steel fiber) were fabricated and tested. In addition, the blast resistance of plain panels (i.e., non-fiber-reinforced high strength concrete, and non-fiber-reinforced cementitious composites) were examined for comparison with those of the FRCC panels. The resistance of the panels to spall failure improved with the addition of micro synthetic fibers and/or macro hooked-end steel fibers as compared to those of the plain panels. The fracture energy of the FRCC panels was significantly higher than that of the plain panels, which reduced the local damage experienced by the FRCCs. The cracks on the back side of the micro synthetic fiber-reinforced panel due to contact explosions were greatly controlled compared to the macro hooked-end steel fiber-reinforced panel. However, the blast resistance of the macro hooked-end steel fiber-reinforced panel was improved by hybrid with micro synthetic fibers.
Piezoelectric(PZT) actuator can substitute for solenoid which is used in fluid control field because it has faster response times and no possibility of explosion. Besides, it is available in a high temperature and it has low energy consumption. In this study, pneumatic micro valve, bimorph type PZT actuator using the softner type PZT, carbon plate as a shim and its controller circuit were suggested and investigated. Performance tests and characteristics analysis, such as displacement, force, hysteresis and frequency properties, were carried out. The displacement of the actuator measured at the end point was 63 ${\mu}m$., force of the actuator was 0.052 N and maximum operating frequency was 15Hz. Also, characteristics of the micro valve with PZT actuator were evaluated in a testing system. The results show that the suggested PZT actuator is suitable for micro valve.

The single droplet combustion characteristics of diesel fuel and low quality oil with additive oxygenate and paraffin under high ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure were investigated in the study. The results of the study may are concluded as follows: In the combustion of diesel fuel and low quality oil droplet with additive of oxygenate and paraffin. the dimensionless droplet size of $(D/Do)^2$ was linearly decreased with time. A fuel droplet with low boiling temperature additives and in high boiling temperature base fuel evaporates and burns faster than usual base fuel. Especially. these trends were remarkably obtained by decreasing boiling point and increasing blending contents of additives in case of oxygenated agents rather than n-paraffin agents. This rapid burning may result from so-called 'micro-explosion' and its burning intensity varies with the types of additives. The results above may suggest that rapid evaporation of oxygenate additive in the middle stage of combustion can contribute much to combustion improvement of blended fuels.
A new high-energy organic potassium salt, 2-(dinitromethylene)-1,3-diazepentane potassium salt K(DNDZ), was synthesized by reacting of 2-(dinitromethylene)-1,3-diazepentane (DNDZ) and potassium hydroxide. The thermal behavior and non-isothermal decomposition kinetics of K(DNDZ) were studied with DSC, TG/DTG methods. The kinetic equation is $\frac{d{\alpha}}{dT}$ = $\frac{10^{13.92}}{\beta}$3(1 - $\alpha$[-ln(1 - $\alpha$)]$^{\frac{2}{3}}$ exp(-1.52 ${\times}\;10^5$ / RT). The critical temperature of thermal explosion of K(DNDZ) is $208.63\;{^{\circ}C}$. The specific heat capacity of K(DNDZ) was determined with a micro-DSC method, and the molar heat capacity is 224.63 J $mol^{-1}\;K^{-1}$ at 298.15 K. Adiabatic time-to-explosion of K(DNDZ) obtained is 157.96 s.
