  • With the increasing demands for clean environment, development of air cleaning systems has been received increasing attention. EP is usually used for air cleaning in the coal power plant. One of the key technology in the EP is high voltage pulse power supply, which affects the performance of the overall system. In this study, high voltage micro pulse power supply for the EP is developed for a 500MW coal power plant. The power supply has a dc source and a pulse one. The ratings of the dc and pulse source are 60kV, 800mA and 70kV, 400mA respectively.

  • As a micro computer or micro processor technology has been advanced, the essential part which consists of electric power system has been changed into intelligent electronic device(IED), that is one kind of embedded system. There are already many parts changed into digital from analog in control and maintenance devices of electric system. These trends make advanced and novel concepts of devices and systems, that we couldn't even imagine in the analog circumstances. Now, the rate's of change is comparatively slower than IT field that is mainly represented by mobile communication, but that is a big change in the history of electric industries. Some people in those field called it Power-IT, and there have been many kinds of researches. Accelerated systems to go digital, users always and continuously demand more convenient, practical, and new functions. So, a lot of electric system manufactures have had tasks realizing many kinds of functions in an electronic device. According to the high-end technologies in semi-conductor and micro-computer field, manufactures can fully satisfy almost all of customer's needs, but there are other kinds of problems, such as large amount of program code, increasing complexity in proportion with program amount, and the hardness of maintenance and revision of the program. So nowadays, the necessity of embedded OS was emerged as a solution, and many researchers and manufactures have concentrated on studies related to embedded OS and its application.

  • This paper proposes a low-cost power converter for micro wind turbine systems using permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSG). The proposed converter consists of a two-leg three-phase PWM inverter for the generator control and a single-phase half-bridge PWM converter which is connected to the utility grid. For the two separate DC-link voltages, a balancing control is added and the adverse effect of the DC-link voltage ripples on the inverter output voltage is compensated. The control performance of the proposed converter topology for the micro wind turbine system is shown by the simulation results using PSIM software.

  • This study aims to restrain free conducting wire-type particles which are commonly and dangerously existing within DC gas-insulated transmission lines. A realistic platform of a coaxial cylindrical electrode was established by using a high-speed camera and a partial discharge (PD) monitor to observe the motion, PD, and breakdown of these particles. The probabilities of standing or bouncing, which can be affected by the length of the particles, were also quantitatively examined. The corona images of the particles were recorded, and particle-triggered PD signals were monitored and extracted. Breakdown images were also obtained. The air-gap breakdown with the particles was subjected to mechanism analysis on the basis of stream theory. Results reveal that the lifting voltage of the wire particles is almost irrelevant to their length but is proportional to the square root of their radius. Short particles correspond to high bouncing probability. The intensity and frequency of PD and the micro-discharge gap increase as the length of the particles increases. The breakdown voltage decreases as the length of the particles decreases.

  • This paper deals with the design of an 870 krpm class high-speed permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) applied to micro turbine system. Since space where the high-speed PMSG coupled with the micro turbine occupies in the system is strictly limited, the work described in this paper is motivated by the desire to make maximum output power of the generator considering the rotor and stator structures, winding methods and bearing system under restricted space.

  • This paper proposes the design of micro energy harvesting system by using thermoplastic polyurethane(TPU), which harvests electric energy from the kinetic energy of pedestrian and drives the desired load, and applied it to the self-generating shoes. Also, we designed the buck-boost converter in discontinuous conduction mode(DCM) which functions as a resistor emulator(RE) such that converter's average input current is proportional to input voltage, and it results in transfer of maximum power to buck-boost converter according to control behavior that converter's input resistance is matched with TPU's internal resistance. Therefore, this paper confirms the validity of proposed control scheme and possibility of application for self-generating shoes, from the obtained characteristic of designed micro energy harvesting system by using a TPU and buck-boost converter in DCM.

  • This study analyzes the design performance of a combined system of a recuperated cycle micro gas turbine (MGT) and a bottoming organic Rankine cycle (ORC) adopting refrigerant (R123) as a working fluid. In contrast to the steam bottoming Rankine cycle, the ORC optimizes the combined system efficiency at a higher evaporating pressure. The ORC recovers much greater MGT exhaust heat than the steam Rankine cycle (much lower stack temperature), resulting in a greater bottoming cycle power and thus a higher combined system efficiency. The optimum MGT pressure ratio of the combined system is very close to the optimum pressure ratio of the MGT itself. The ORC's power amounts to about $25\%$ of MGT power. For the MGT turbine inlet temperature of $950^{\circ}C$ or higher, the combined system efficiency, based on shaft power, can be higher than $45\%$.

  • There is an increasing interest in passive safety systems to minimize the need for operator intervention or external power sources in nuclear power plants. Because a passive system has a weak driving force, there is greater uncertainty in the performance compared with an active system. In previous studies, several methods have been suggested to evaluate passive system reliability, and many of them estimated the failure probability using thermal-hydraulic analyses and the Monte Carlo method. However, if the functional failure of a passive system is rare, it is difficult to estimate the failure probability using conventional methods owing to their high computational time. In this paper, a procedure for the application of the Chernoff bound to the evaluation of passive system reliability is proposed. A feasibility study of the procedure was conducted on a passive decay heat removal system of a micro modular reactor in its conceptual design phase, and it was demonstrated that the passive system reliability can be evaluated without performing a large number of thermal-hydraulic analyses or Monte Carlo simulations when the system has a small failure probability. Accordingly, the advantages and constraints of applying the Chernoff bound for passive system reliability evaluation are discussed in this paper.

  • This paper presents a renewable energy configuration plan of Micro grid in Gapa Island. To analyze the characteristics of Micro grid, BESS (Battery Energy Storage System), PMSG (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator) and SCIG (Squirrel Cage Induction Generator) are first modelled. The PMSG and SCIG will operate with basis on the real power curve. when the total power demand is larger than the total power generation, the BESS will be operated and the SOC (State Of Charge) is reduced. If the value of SOC could drop down to limited value, the system may be broken because of the voltage drop of BESS. To solve this problem, a DG (Diesel Generator) is used to charge the BESS and keep the voltage value of BESS with in a allowance limit. This paper represents simulation result when PMSG, SCIG connected to the Micro grid installed in Gapa Island. The simulation is carry out by using PSCAD/EMTDC program with actual line constant and transformer parameter in Gapa Island.
