Development of a Large Surface Mechanical Micro Machining System & Machine (대면적 미세가공시스템 및 장비 개발)

  • The large surface micro machining system includes the equipments and processes for manufacturing the ultra precision micro patterned products with large surface through the mechanical machining. Recent major issue on the micro machining technology may be the development of optical parts for the back light unit of display which has the largest market. This special issue makes up with three parts; the large surface micro machining system and machine, machining process and forming process. In this paper, the state-of-the-art and core technology of large surface micro machining system is introduced with focus on the manufacturing technology for the back light unit of LCD TV. Then, some research results on the development of a roll die lathe is introduced which involves the concept of machine design, improvement of thermal characteristics in the spindle system, improvement of relative parallelism and straightness between spindle system and long stroke feed table, machining of micro pitch patterns. Finally, the direct forming process is introduced as the future work in the large surface micro machining field.

Development of FE Analysis Scheme for Milli-Part Forming Using Grain and Grain Boundary Element (입자요소를 이용한 미세 박판 부품의 유한요소 해석 기법 개발)

  • This study presents a new computational model to analyze the grain deformation in a polycrystalline aggregate in a discrete manner and based directly in the underlying physical micro-mechanisms. When scaling down a metal forming process, the dimensions of the workpiece decrease but the microstructure of the workpiece remains the similar. Since the dimensions of the workpiece are very small, the microstructure especially the grain size will play an important role in micro forming, which is called size effects. As a result, specific characteristics have to be considered for the numerical analysis. The grains and grain boundary elements are introduced to model individual grains and grain boundary facets, respectively, to consider the size effects in the micro forming. The constitutive description of the grain elements accounts for the rigid-plastic and the grain boundary elements for visco-elastic relationships. The capability of the proposed approach is demonstrated through application of grain element and grain boundary element in the micro forming.

Micro forming technology for micro parts below $500{\mu}m$ in diameter by n hot extrusion process (열간 압출 공정에 의한 직경 $500{\mu}m$ 마이크로 부품 성형)

  • Micro parts are usually used of producing by micro-electro-mechanical systems(MEMS). In this paper, we present some fundamental results concerning on the MEMS, extrusion condition on the micro forming characteristics and new micro forward extrusion machine has been developed. In the first step, we manufactured micro dies in two kinds of sections. One is a circle section, another is a cross section. The process for fabricating micro dies combines a deep UV-lithography, anisotropic etching techniques and metal electroplating with bulk silicon based on Ni with a thickness of $50{\mu}m$. The outer diameter of Ni-micro dies is 3mm and the diameter of extrusion section is $270{\mu}m$ for a cross section, $500{\mu}m$ for a circle section. The low linear density polyethylene(LLEPD) in the shape of a pellet has been used of micro extrusion. The billet was placed in a container manufactured by electric discharge machining and extruded through the micro die by a piezoelectric actuator. The micro extrusion has succeeded in a forming such micro parts as micro bars, micro cross shafts.

A Study of Micro De-burring Characteristics using Polymer and $Al_2O_3$ Abrasive (폴리머와 산화알루미나 연마재를 이용한 마이크로 버 제거 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In mechanical cutting process, burr was generated at workpiece by cutting tool generally. It is working disturbance during manufacturing process. Besides burr was taken shape relatively large size more micro scale machining than macro scale machining. Many researches have been studied to remove micro burr(de-burring), because it was negative effect for accuracy of machining shape. However, micro de-burring was constrained by burr height, micro feature and so on. In this paper, experimental research was carried out to compare de-burring characteristics of $Al_2O_3$ abrasive and polymer.

  • As demands on micro-products increase significantly with raising functional integration and increasing complexity, microfoming attracts a lot of attention in the manufacture of micro-products. Since the conventional big forming systems are not adequate to achieve sufficient tolerances of micro-scale parts, it is necessary to reduce the scale of the forming equipment and devices. In addition, understandings on the size effects, which exist in the material behavior and process characterization of microforming processes, need to be expanded. In this study, a miniaturized forming system based on the ball screw and servo motor actuator was developed for the efficient micro-parts production. In addition, tensile tests and cylindrical upsetting experiments were performed to evaluate the performance of the microforming system and to investigate the flow stress and friction size effects in microforming processes.

  • 현재 자본재산업의 기술낙후는 상품의 수출경쟁력 약화의 근원적인 원인이 되어 결국 지속적으로 선진국의 기술종속을 심화시키고 있다. 이러한 자본재 산업의 문제는 현재의 주력 수출상품의 핵심요소부품생산기술의 미비가 큰 원인이며(거의 주요핵심부품 도는 관련기술은 거의 대부분 수입에 의존하고 있음), 같은 논리로 차세대 신기술의 개발을 통한 첨단 상품의 개발도 이에 필요한 핵심요소부품의 생산기술이 뒤를 바쳐 주지 못한다면 결국 10년 후에도 현재와 같은 현상이 되풀이될 것은 분명하다.(중략)
