Micro Mold 제작 및 RTP 공정에 의한 미세 패턴의 성형 (Micro Mold Fabrication and the Micro Patterning by RTP Process)

  • RTP(Rapid Thermal Pressing) is to fabricate desired pattern on polymer substrate by pressing patterned mold against the substrate heated around glass transition temperature. For a successful RTP process, the whole process including heating, molding, cooling and demolding should be conducted 'rapidly' as possible. As the RTP process is effective in replicating patterns on flat large surface without causing shape distortion after cooling, it is being widely used for fabricating various micro/bio application components, especially with channel-type microstructures on surface. This investigation finally aims to develop a RTP process machine for mass-producing micro/bio application components. As a first step for that purpose, we intended to examine the technological difficulties for realizing mass production by RTP process. Therefore, in the current paper, 4 kinds of RTP machines were examined and then the RTP process was conducted experimentally for PMMA film by using one of the machines, HEX 03. The micro-patterned molds used for RTP experiment was fabricated from silicon wafer by semi-conduct process. The replicated micro patterns on PMMA films were examined using SEM and the causes of defect observed in the replicated patterns were discussed.

  • Micro cell structures with high aspect ratio were fabricated by injection molding method. The mold inserts had dimension $1.9cm\times8.3cm$ composed of a lot of micro posts and were fabricated by LIGA process. The size of the micro posts was $157{\mu}m\times157{\mu}m\times500{\mu}m$ and the gaps between two adjacent posts were $50{\mu}m$. Using Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) injection molding was performed. The key experimental variables were temperature, pressure, and time. By controlling these, good shaped mim cell structures with $50{\mu}m$ in wall thickness and $500{\mu}m$ in depth were obtained. In order to understand micro molding mechanism, shape changes of molded PMMA were studied with experimental variables. And the durability of mold insert was investigated, too. The results show that the most important factor in molding processes was the mold temperature that is closely related to the filling of the melt into the micro cavity. And the holding time before cooling showed a great effect on the quality of molded PMMA.

  • The next generation of optical storage systems requires higher numerical aperture (NA) objective lenses and shorter wavelength laser in order to improve the unit areal density. A blu-ray technology satisfies a miniaturization and a high capacity which are the requirements of the portable device. In this paper, we analyze the optical performance of hybrid micro lens and do active alignment. The hybrid micro lens is manufactured by using a wafer based fabrication technology. Optical components of hybrid micro lens are evaluated. The measurement of the optical power, the spot size and the wavefront error awe performed to evaluate the hybrid micro lens with NA 0.85. Using the measured data, we estimate if the performance of hybrid micro lens corresponds to the designed performance. After the performance of hybrid micro lens is evaluated, the integrated optical pickup and the hybrid micro lens are assembled by active alignment using UV curing and the optical performance of SFFOP is satisfied with BD specifications.

  • The hot embossing process as a method for the fabrication of polymer is becoming increasingly important because of its simple process, low cost, high replication fidelity and relatively high throughput. In this paper, we carried out experimental studies and numerical simulations in order to understand the viscous flow of polymer film during hot embossing process. As the initial step of quantitating the hot embossing process, simple parametric studies for the embossing conditions have been carried out using high resolution masters which patterned by DRIE process. Under different embossing times and pressures, the viscous flow of PMMA films into micro/nano cavities has been investigated. Also, the viscous flow during the hot embossing process has been simulated by the continuum based FDM analysis considering micro/nano effect, such as surface tension and contact angle.

  • Micro/nano-injection molding is one of the main processing techniques for polymer micro-fabrication. Most of the difficulties encountered in polymer micro-molding are caused by the demolding, rather than the filling of molds. Therefore, studying the demolding process is vitally important for manufacturing polymer replicas. The most important parameters are the thermal stress, friction and adhesion forces, and mechanical strength of the resist. In this research, we determinedthe effects of the processing conditions on the ejection force for cases involving two common thermoplastic polymers. The results showed that the processing conditions noticeably influenced the ejection force.

  • Printing technology is a very useful method in the several process of industrial fabrication due to noncontact and fast pattern generation. To make micro pattern, we investigate the electrostatic induced inkjet printer head for micro droplet generation and drop-on-demand jetting. In order to achieve the drop-on-demand micro droplet ejection by the electrostatic induced inkjet printer head, the pulsed DC voltage is supplied. In order to find optimal pulse conditions, we tested jetting performance for various bias and pulse voltages for drop-on-demand ejection. In this result, we have successful drop-on-demand operation and micro patterning. Therefore, our novel electrostatic induced inkjet head printing system will be applied industrial area comparing conventional printing technology.

  • In recent years, micro powder injection molding $(\mu-PIM)$ is being explored as an economical fabrication method for microcomponents in microsystems technology (MST). Technical and economic comparison was performed for $\mu-PIM$ processes. Molding experiment and simulation during the filling process were performed to evaluate several different geometries and processing conditions. The influence of material parameters and process conditions on mold filling were examined as a function of features size using microchannels as an example. It was found that the heat conductivity and viscosity of feedstock, geometry and mold temperature were the most critical parameters for complete filling of micro features.

  • This paper presents the design and fabrication of backflow prevented Micropump using the metal membrane. The Micropump is consisted of the lower plate, metal membrane, upper plate and the piezoelectric-element. The lower plate includes the micro channel and the inlet, outlet of the Micropump. The upper plate includes the micro channel and connects the piezoelectric-element. These plate are fabricated on the Pyrex glass wafer by sandblasting process. The metal membrane does roll of check valve that is prevented backflow of the Micropump. The metal membrane is fabricated on the stainless steel by laser machining. Piezoelectric-element is actuated the Micropump and controlled flowing of fluid. The Micropump is fabricated by bonding process of these multi-layer.

  • A helical fabricating method using $CO_2$ laser was utilized for producing cone-shaped structure on a silica substrate. Output power and the number of scanning radiation were modified in order to control the structure. The experiment shows that the depth and width of cone-shape were increased with higher output power of the laser and the number of scanning. We demonstrate fabrication of multidirectional side-firing optical fiber with diameter of 440 um using the $CO_2$ laser fabrication technique.
