  • The magnetic characteristics of Mg-Zn ferrite that was fired at $1150^{\circ}C$ for 1hour and sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ for 3hours was examined. The composition ratio of the ferrite was changed after sintering. In that case the composition ratio of ${Fe_2}{O_3}$ was increased but that of CuO was decreased. When the addition quantity of CuO was 3.8 mole%, it's shrinkage rate had maximum value. Magnetic permeability was decreased as the addition rate of CuO was increased and MgO was decreased. When the composition rate of CuO was 2.3 mol% and MgO was 10.9 mol%, the firing density had maximum value. In case that CuO was 2.8mol% and MgO was 10.4mol%, PL had minimum value.

  • Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with few defects and very small amount of amorphous carbon coating have been synthesized by catalytic decomposition of acetylene in $H_2$ over well-dispersed metal particles supported on MgO. The yield, quality and diameters of CNTs were obtained by control of catalyst metal compositions to be used. The optimization condition of carbon nanotubes with high yield is when Co and Mo are in a 1:1 ratio and Fe metal contents to Co is increased on magnesium oxide support. It is also found that the diameter of the as-prepared CNTs can be controlled mainly by adjusting the molar ratio of Fe-Mo, Co-Fe, and Co-Mo versus the MgO support. Our results indicated that desired diameter distribution of CNTs is obtained by choosing or combining the catalyst to be employed.

  • Weathering of granites has a geochemical role of great significance, because of their abundance and because of chemical instability near the surface of the earth, which is more pronounced than in most other rocks. On the other hand the granites are tectonically fragile and "react" to deformation with marked facility, giving rise to a whole gamut of deformed rocks. Therefore, the writer has studied on the weathering of granitic rocks at of Iri city and Jeonju city Jeollabukdo, Korea, The fresh and weathered rocks were used as material for the investigation. The results obtained by chemical analysis and observation are as follows. 1) The order of mobility in major elements was Ca, Na and K$H_2O$ was observed clearly and late stages of weathering processes. 3) The early stage of weathering is commenced by physical weathering and followed by chemical weathering. 4) The ratio of FeO/. $Fe_2O_3$, FeO/MgO, and $SiO_2/Al_2O_3 $ decreased uniformly from early to late stage of weathering processes. 5) It was proved that weathering potential of granite was larger than that of basaltic rocks.

  • According to the recent trend to raise the horizontal scan frequency to increase the image refinement of the High Definition TV and High Resolution Display, material with low core loss is required for the ferrite core for deflection yoke, which is secured even in the high frequency range. liking notice of the influence on the fine structure of Mg-Zn ferrite by the chemical com position and process, low temperature sintering was proceeded. Cu was added to the low loss Mg-Zn system ferrite. After select-ing MgO, ZnO, $Fe_2$$O_3$, CuO, MgO was substituted for CuO while varying the composition ratio. Then the sample was sintered for 3 hours between $980~1350^{\circ}C$ Magnetic permeability, power consumption, shrinkage rate, core loss were measured. The start-ing temperature to test the shrinkage of the sample was nearby $900^{\circ}C$, it increased according to the substitution process of Cu, and the firing temperature was lowered about $-50~-75^{\circ}C$ alongside of the process.

  • As there are recent tendencies to raise horizontal frequencies so as to improve screen definition for high-quality TV and high definition display, ferrite core for deflective yokes requires materials with low coreloss in the areas of high frequencies. The researcher added CuO to low-loss Mg-Zn ferrite. After choosing MgO, ZnO, Fe$_2O_3$ and CuO, the researcher changed a ratio of composition, substituting MgO for CuO. These samples were sintered for three hours up to 980$^{\circ}C$~1350$^{\circ}C$. Measure magnetic permeability, electric loss, core loss and a rate of contraction.

  • As results of X-ray diffraction analysis, samples of asbestos and soil were composed maily of dolomite ($CaMg(Co_3)_2$, tremolite ($Ca_2Mg_5Si_{18}O_{22}(OH)_2$), actinolite ($Ca(Mg,\;Fe)_6Si_8O_{22}(OH)_2$), talc ($Mg_3Si_4O_{10}(OH)_2$), calcite ($CaCO_3$) and small amounts of quartz ($SiO_2$) and clay minerals. The average size of asbestos fibers was about $100{\mu}m$ and maximum of some asbestos was $250.0{\mu}m$ in length. The aspect ratio of asbestos fiber were over 3 : 1 and inclined extinction in the range of $8.0-19.5^{\circ}$. Single isolated fragments of asbestos are probably fiber and acicula form in crystal edge along the cleavage plane. Tremolite that composed main asbestos mineral in rock and soil around Dong-a mine is higher content of Fe than actinolite asbestos.

  • The study area of Nokjeonri in Yeongwol belongs to the Taebaeksan Mineralized District. Ca and Mg skarn and related ore mineralization are developed in the Pungchon formation along the contact with the Imog granite. Ca skarn hosted in limestone mostly comprises garnet and pyroxene. Mg skarn developed in dolomite includes olivine and serpentine. Magnetite-hematite and pyrrhotite(±scheelite)-pyritegalena-sphalerite were mineralized during early and late stage, respectively. Garnet compositions are dominated by andradite series in proximal area and grossular series in distal area. Pyroxene compositions correspond to diopside series in majority. These compositional changes indicate that the fluids varied from oxidizing condition to reducing condition due to increased reaction with carbonated wall rocks as the fluids moved from the granite to a distal place. Fe2O3 and MgO concentrations of magnetite are higher in Mg skarn than those in Ca skarn, while FeO shows opposite trend. The Zn/Fe ratio of sphalerite increases with distance from the Imog granite. The δ34S values of sulfide minerals are similar to those of the Imog granite, indicating magmatic origin in ore sulfur. Mineralization was established in the order of skarn, oxide and sulfide minerals with decreasing temperature and oxygen fugacity and increasing sulfur fugacity.

  • The objectives of this study are to determine optimal operation condition of chemical coagulation with ferric chloride($FeCl_3$) and fenton reagent oxidation for effluents of a biological denitrification treatment and an existing lagoon treatment of landfill leachate, and to investigate the effect of alkalinity on fenton oxidation. In jar-tester, optimum dosage of ferric chloride for removal of COD was $1,500mgFe^{3+}/L$, removal efficiencies of $COD_{Cr}$ and $COD_{Mn}$ under this condition were about 55% and 64%, respectively. After chemical precipitation($1,500mgFe^{3+}/L$) of biological treatment effluent, optimum $Fe^{2+}/H_2O_2$ ratio of fenton oxidation was 1.5, the maximum removal efficiency of COD was about 80%, and optimum dosages of ferrous sulfate and hydrogen peroxide were $600mgFe^{2+}/L$ and $400mgH_2O_2/L$, respectively. The removal efficiency of COD was decreased as alkalinity was increased.

  • The physical treatment such as chemical precipitation or adsorption was usually added after biological treatment in wastewater treatment process since it was enforced to reduce the concentration of phosphate for wastewater effluent to 0.2 mg/L as P which was well known as one of main nutrient causing eutrophication in waterbody. Therefore, the new material functioned for both adsorption and disinfection was prepared with Fe and Cu, and $TiO_2$, respectively, by changing the ratio of concentration referred to tri-metal (TM). According to SEM-EDS, $TiO_2$ was 30~40% composition for any TM regardless of any synthesis condition. However, the ratio of composition for Fe and Cu was dependent on the initial Fe and Cu concentration, respectively. The removal efficiency of phosphate was obtained to 15% at low initial concentration and the maximum uptake (Q) was calculated to ~11 mg/g through Langmuir isotherm model using TM1 which was synthesized at 1000 mg/L, 1000 mg/L, and 2 g (10 g/L) for $Fe(NO_3)_3$, $Cu(NO_3)_2$, $TiO_2$, respectively. In disinfection test, the efficiency of virus removal using TM was increased with increase of dosage of TM and can be reached 98% at 0.2 g.
