In this paper, through a questionnaire to currently active actors, we sought to understand their understanding of American acting methods and whether there are any particularly effective or ineffective acting training methods among various method related to this. For this, pre-questionnaire was conducted to ask about their understanding of American action methods, and post-questionnaire was conducted to find effectiveness of American acting method and effect of individual method after performing simple acting training with four representative theories of American action methods According to the analysis, the actors surveyed were not familiar with the American acting method and want to systematic methods in acting training. All of the acting training through the American acting method were effective, especially Stella Adler's imagination was the most effective method. The least effective method was Sanford Meisner's repetition. The results of this study can be used as fundamental data for introduction and utilization of American acting method in domestic acting training.

In this paper, acting of Meryl Streep, who was recognized as a method actor in Hollywood, was analyzed, and this paper tried to find out how Meryl Streep utilizes the American acting method to improve her acting skills. To do this, we first looked at the concepts and theories of the American acting method, and analyze the acting of Meryl Streep through three films: "Sophie's Choice", "The Devil Wears Prada", and "The Iron Lady". Analysis results show that Meryl Streep utilizes all of the American acting methods, such as "Emotional memory", "Imagination", "Given Circumstance", and "Repetition" without any particular distinction. Meryl Streep uses not a specific acting theory, but selects appropriate training for herself. According to the analysis of this paper, we can understand the acting method that Meryl Streep uses, and shows some way to develop the acting training. The result of this paper can be used to the acting training, and it will be an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of one of the greatest actress.

The purpose of this thesis is to introduce the alternative method of the new training program for film acting and directing. Recently in Korea, acting in movies has become a trend and broadcasting still depicts reality. But men of the theater is usually privileged getting the most acting education offered by the theater training program. They also is hardly teach about acting's directing for film directors. So I thought of establishing a new training program for film acting and acting's directing. I made two short films , that I had practical training program for film acting as practical text. This program applied partially 'Atude' that Stanislavsky devised for theater acting practice, and referred to 'Method Acting System' that Lee Strasberg made for film acting at the Actors Studio. Another main point of this program is camera use. That training program can be attended not only by actors but also by director and film staff. Through this thesis, I wish to prove my new training program for film acting and acting directing. The focus of this training is to target a better execution according to the group you belong to whether amateur group, associate professionals, professional actors.

Stanislavsky's acting system is based on the sensory memory of an incident that an actor has actually experienced, but Michael Chekhov insisted that in relation to the acting technique of actors, they should find the virtual and unreal external stimuli caused by emotion and imagination irrespective of their personal experience. As such, Stanislavsky's acting system and Michael Chekhov's acting technique are very different in terms of the acting method used. In actual acting, however, the acting system and the acting technique should have a close relationship. Any acting performed by an actor cannot be totally psychological or physical because the body and the mind cannot be separated. It is for this reason that all kinds of training should be both psychological and physical training and should not be conducted only mechanically. Acting is the ability of actors to imagine the virtual or fictitious reality and to express their indignation ability onstage. As actors stimulate and train their own fantasy and imagination, they can greatly improve their ability to embody or express the inner world of the characters they are portraying in a play.

Goda formula (Goda, 1973) has been used in the determination of wave pressures acting on a large size caisson such as the pier of the cable stayed bridge at sea. Goda formula, however, is to evaluate the wave pressures acting the infinite vertical caisson of composite breakwater so that it can`t be applied to a large caisson with finite width and length because of diffraction effects. In the present study, three dimensional nonlinear frequence domain method based on perturbation method and boundary integral method is applied to the computation of the linear and nonlinear wave pressures acting on the front of a large size caisson under the variation of its width and length, and angle of incident wave. The numerical results are compared to Goda\`s ones, and then the characteristics of wave pressure distributions acting on a large size caisson are discussed.

The hydraulic fuse, which responds to the suddenly increased flow on rupture of a line and shuts off the fluid flow, would prevent large spillage of liquid. The quick-acting hydraulic fuse, which is mainly composed of a poppet, a seat, and a spring, must be designed to minimize the leaked flow and to prevent high collision speed between the poppet and seat during fuse operation on a line rupture. The optimal design parameters of a quick-acting hydraulic fuse were searched using the genetic algorithm and the complex method that are kinds of constrained direct search methods. The dynamic behavior of a quick-acting hydraulic fuse was researched using computer simulations that applied the obtained optimal design parameters.

This study attempts to investigate why Stanislavsky's System, which has been the basis of modern acting, and the American Acting Method, which is the American succession of the System, were forced to become acting theories with a completely different nature. First, this study tracks the publishing and translating process of Stanislavsky's books related to System targeting the major countries of System succession, Russia, the United States, and South Korea, so it confirms that the System has been understood completely differently in each country. Based on this, this study aims to clarify the difference and cause of it in the two acting theories by discussing how the "Experiencing" and the actor's "Double Consciousness", which keep the ground of System, were accepted in the Method. To recognize Stanislavsky's publication, translation, and understanding of the System, which is an inflection point from the System to the Method, will be an attempt to fully understand both acting theories. It is hoped that this study that fundamentally seeks to comprehend System and Method will serve as the foundation for discussion from various perspectives on both acting theories in the future.

A quick-acting hydraulic fuse, which is mainly composed of a poppet, a seat, and a spring, must be designed to minimize the leaked oil volume during fuse operation on a line rupture. The optimal design parameters of a quick-acting hydraulic fuse were searched using the design of experiments method and the complex method. First, the $L_{50}(5^4)$ orthogonal array is used to find the robust minimum point among the 625 points of design variables. The search range can then be narrowed around the robust minimum point. Second, the $L_{25}(5^4)$ orthogonal array is used to obtain the variations of the design variables in the narrowed search range. The variations of design variables are used to set the structure of a polynomial equation representing the leakage oil volume of the quick-acting hydraulic fuse. The least squares method is then applied to obtain the coefficients of polynomial equation. Finally, the complex method is used to find the optimal design parameters where the objective function is described by the polynomial equation.

This study investigates the basic elements of film acting based on Lee Strasberg's emotional memory. Acting in Korean film and TV drama often meets difficult circumstances. Therefore, I strongly suggest Lee Strasberg' American Method to film actors and students. This method refers to affective memory that Lee Strasberg devised for film acting at the Actors Studio. Another main point of this method is to overcome difficulties created from the camera use and shooting process. It is evident practicing affective memory would help actors perform better in their field.

In general, film acting refers to American method or Hollywood method. Hollywood method is a term to denominate collectively actors from Group Theatre of Lee Strasberg which accepted Russian Stanislavski's system as American acting. We can find out the origins of Korean acting in the attitude of actors who imitate Hollywood. Hollywood method, which seem to be more systematic and rational in the previous Sin-pa, has begun to be accepted in the fields of actors, directors, critics, and educators. The perception of Hollywood method in Korea is part of the search for the identity of Korean film acting. This article approaches from the perspective of four fields. First, it is Korean actors' perceptions about Hollywood methods. Second, I examine the attitude of the direction of staff and technical aesthetics regarding Hollywood method. Third, it is evaluation aspect in criticism area. Fourth, it is an aspect of education.
