Deposition of diamond films on Si(100) from the mixtures of methane and hydrogen were investigated using hot W filament CVD method. The nucleation density could be increased thousandfold by surface treatment with SiC powder. Upon oxygen addition to the mixture, crystal facets became developed more clearly by selectively removing non-diamond carbons, but the film growth rate generally decreased. However, at a very high methane content(e.g. 10%), a small amount of oxygen addition has resulted in an increase in the film deposition rate presumably by promotion of methane decomposition. When the gas pressure was varied, the growth rate exhibited a maxiumum at around 20torr and the film crystallinity steadily improved with the pressure increase. The observed variation of the growth rate by oxygen addition was discussed in terms of its role in the pyrolysis and the subsequent gas phase reactions.

As a carbon-free, green growth alternative, internal and external interest in hydrogen energy and technology is growing. Hydrogen was added to co-axial methane, methane-propane, and methane-propane-ethane diffusion flames, which are the main ingredients of LNG, to evaluate its effect on flame formation and combustion products. The variation in combustion products produced by adding hydrogen gradually to diffusion pyrolysis at room temperature and normal pressure conditions was observed experimentally by using a gas analyzer, and the shape of diffusion pyrolysis was observed step by step using a digital camera. The experimental results showed that the production volume of nitrogen oxides tended to increase and became close to linear as hydrogen was added to the diffusion pyrotechnic. This is because the relatively high temperature of heat insulation and fast combustion speed of hydrogen facilitated the production of thermal NOx. On the other hand, CO2 production tended to decrease as hydrogen was added to reduce the overall carbon ratio contained in the mixed diffusion flame of methane, methane-propane, and methane-ethane-propane. This means that the mixed fuel use of LNG-hydrogen in ships may potentially reduce emissions of CO2, a greenhouse gas.
A stainless steel autoclave reactor, which is the property of Pacific Northwest Laboratories(PNL) and located in PNL, was acted for pyrolysis and gasification of sawdust, ricestraw, and ricehusk. The initial reaction temperature of this reactor was 300$^{\circ}C$, and up to 500$^{\circ}C$ to complete pyrolysis and gasification reaction. The maximum exerted pressure on this reactor was 800 psig. In order to examine the effect of catalyst on reaction temperature, $K_2CO_3$, and nickel/alkali carbonate catalyst mixture were also used. The experimental results obtained with this reactor indicated that good yields of methane-rich gas(exceeding 40% methane) can be produced. The product gas mixtures were also identified to be CO. $CO_2$, $C_2H_4$, and $CH_3CHO$ etc. by Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometer.
Two different quartz types of gasification reactor were used for pyrolysis and gasification of sawdust, ricestraw, ricehusk and municipal wastes which contain only cellulosics., operating at 1 atmospheric and vacuum pressure respectively. Also a stainless steel autoclave gasification reactor was used which is possible to use up to 100 atmospheric pressures and $800^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature to complete pyrolysis and gasification reaction. The catalysts used in this reaction w- ere $K_2CO_3$, $Na_2CO_3$, Ni and Ni-$K_2CO_3$ as CO-Catalyst. The product gas mixtures were identified to be CO, $CO_2$, $C_3H_3$, $CH_4$ and $CH_3CHO$ etc. by Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry. The pressurized gasification reaction shows significant increase in terms of methane composition and yield of product gases, comparing with those from unpressurized gasification reactions. The total volume of product gas mixtures amounts to 1600-1800ml per1gof waste of waste lignocellulosics or municipal waste, and the metane content of the gas mixtures reached to 40%, when $800^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature and 100 atmospheric pressures with Ni-$K_2CO_3$ as CO-catalyst in the pressurized gasification reaction were used. This results show that the product gas mixtures containing 40% of methane call be used for alternative enegy source.
Global interest in hydrogen energy is increasing as an eco-friendly future energy that can replace fossil fuels. Accordingly, a next-generation hydrogen production technology using microorganisms, nuclear power, etc. is being developed, while a lot of time and effort are still required to overcome the cost of hydrogen production based on fossil fuels. As a way to minimize greenhouse gas emissions in the hydrocarbon-based hydrogen production process, methane direct decomposition technology has recently attracted attention. In order to improve the economic feasibility of the process, the simultaneous production of value-added carbon materials with hydrogen can be one of the most essential aspects. For that purpose, various studies on catalysis related to the quality and yield of high-value carbon materials such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs). In terms of process technology, a number of the research and development of fluidized-bed reactors capable of continuous production and improved gas-solid contact efficiency has been attempted. Recently, methane direct decomposition technology using a fluidized bed has been developed to the extent that it can produce 270 kg/day of hydrogen and 1000 kg/day of carbon. Plus, with the development of catalyst regeneration, separation and recirculation technologies, the process efficiency can be further improved. This review paper investigates the recent development of catalysts and fluidized bed reactor for methane direct pyrolysis to identify the key challenges and opportunities.
The effects of noble gas (such as helium, neon, argon, krypton, and xenon) on the sonolytic decomposition of water and 2-methyl-2-propanol(t-butanol) with 200 KHz high power ultrasound were investigated. The physical properties of the noble gas have an effect on the formation rate of products $(H_2O_2,\;H_2,\;O_2)$ and the decomposition rate on the sonolytic decomposition of water. The pyrolysis products, such as methane, ethane, ethylene, and acetylene are formed during the sonolytic decomposition of t-butanol. From the estimation of the ratio $[C_2H_4+C_2H_2] / [C_2H_6]$, the cavitation temperature would be varied by the used noble gas. In all cases for the sonolytic decomposition of water, t-butanol, and diethyl phthalate, the decomposition rates were xenon > krypton > argon > neon > helium with a significant difference and were closely correlated with the formation rate of OH radical and high temperature inside the cavitation bubble under each noble gas.
Waste Thermal Pyrolysis Melting process was proposed and has been studied in order to prevent air pollution by dioxin and fly ash generated from combustion process for disposal of waste. In this study, applicability as the fuel of diffusion burner of synthesis gas formed from Waste Thermal Pyrolysis process was addressed. Results showed that there is no big difference in the flame shape between MNDF and SNDF, and lift off was detected in MIDF but flame is more stable in SIDF which contains hydrogen with high combustion velocity as flow rate in first nozzle is increased. And radiation heat flux in inverse diffusion flame of synthesis gas was found to be more by 1.5 times than that in inverse diffusion flame of methane because of higher mole fraction of $CO_2$ with high emissivity in product gas.

The experiment established optimal conditions for over-carbonization. With the use of the electron microscopy and X-ray phase analysis the regularities of carbon deposit formation in process of methane and propane pyrolysis on the zeolites, Kazakhstan natural clays, chrome and bauxite sludge containing metal oxides of iron subgroup, have been studied. In process of over-carbonization the trivalent iron was reduced to metal form. In addition, the carbon tubes of divers morphology had been impregnated with ultra-dispersed metal particles. The kinetic parameters of carbon formation in process of methane decomposition on the zeolite - CoO mixture surface were investigated by method of thermo-gravimetric analysis. The morphology and structure of formed carbon fibrils, with the metal particles fixed at their ends, have been investigated, the formation of branched carbon fibrils pattern, so called octopus, being found. Also, the walnut shells and grape kernel carbonization, their immobilization by the cells of selective absorption of heavy metal and sulfur dioxide ions have been studied. The example of metal-carbon composites used as adsorbents for wastewater purification, C$_3$- C$_4$ hydrocarbon cracking catalysts and refractory materials with improved properties have been considered.
Nb-doped $TiO_2$(NTO) coated NiCrAl alloy foam for hydrogen production is prepared using ultrasonic spray pyrolysis deposition(USPD) method. To optimize the size and distribution of NTO particles based on good physical and chemical stability, we synthesize particles by adjusting the weight ratio of the Nb precursor solution(5 wt%, 10 wt% and 15 wt%). The morphological, chemical bonding, and structural properties of the NTO coated NiCrAl alloy foam are investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD), X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy(XPS), and Field-Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy(FESEM). As a result, the samples of controlled Nb weight ratio exhibit a common diffraction pattern at ${\sim}25.3^{\circ}$, corresponding to the(101) plane, and have chemical bonding(O-Nb=O) at 534 eV. The NTO particles with the optimum weight ratio of N (10 wt%) show a uniform distribution with a size of ~18.2-21.0 nm. In addition, they exhibit the highest corrosion resistance even in the electrochemical stability estimation. As a result, the introduction of NTO coated NiCrAl alloy foam by USPD improves the chemical stability of the NiCrAl alloy foam by protecting the direct electrochemical reaction between the foam and the electrolyte. Thus, the optimized NTO coating can be proposed for excellent protection of NiCrAl alloy foam for hydrocarbon-based steam methane reforming(SMR).
