The Effect of K Promoter on Ni-Co (Bimetallic) Catalyst for Dry Methane Reforming

  • 10 wt% (Ni-Co) catalysts with different Ni and Co content : 10%Ni, 9%Ni1%Co, 7%Ni3%Co, 5%Ni5%Co, 3%Ni7%Co, and 10%Co; were prepared using sol-gel method followed by incipient wetness impregnation method. To investigate the catalytic activity including the stability, dry methane reforming were demonstrated over the pelletized catalysts at $620^{\circ}C$ under atmospheric pressure in a $CH_4:CO_2:N_2$ feedstock for 360 min. The results showed that bimetallic catalysts with the Co content equal to or greater than 3% were more stable than monometallic catalysts (10%Ni and 10%Co). The temperature programmed hydrogenation interpreted that the additional of Co into Ni catalyst improved the carbon resistance from methane cracking. Promoted this type of bimetallic catalyst using 1wt% K (trimetallic catalyst) prevented the carbon formation on the catalyst. The temperature programmed desorption of $CO_2$ indicated that this trimetallic catalyst has a greater number of strong basic sites. Moreover, the appearance of K lowered the number of weak basic sites and decreased the conversion of methane by 12 %.

  • The autothermal reforming reaction of methane was investigated to produce hyd rogen with Ni/$CeO_2-ZrO_2$, Ni/$Al_2O_3$-MgO and Ni-Ru/$Al_2O_3$-MgO catalysts. Honeycomb metalli c monolith was applied in order to obtain high catalytic activity and stability in autothermal r eforming. The catalysts were characterized by XRD, BET and SEM. The influence of various catalysts on hydrogen production was studied for the feed ratio($O_2/CH_4$, $H_2O/CH_4$). The $O_2/CH_4$ and $H_2O/CH_4$ ratio governed the methane conversion and temperature profile of reactor. Th e reactor temperature increased as the reaction shifted from endothermic to exothermic reactio n with increasing $O_2/CH_4$ ratio. Among the catalysts used in the experiment, the Ni-Ru/$Al_2O_3$-MgO catalyst showed the highest activity. The 60% of $CH_4$ conversion was obtained, and th e reactor temperature was maintained $600^{\circ}C$ at the condition of GHSV=$10000h^{-1}$ and feed ratio S/C/O=0.5/1/0.5.

UASB 공정에 의한 슬러리형 돈사폐수의 처리 (The Treatment of Slurry-type Swine Waste using UASB Reactor)

  • This research examined the treatment efficiency and methane production rate in treating slurry-type swine waste using UASB (upflow anaerobic sludge blanket) reactor. The UASB reactor was operated at an organics volumetric loading rate (VLR) of $2.6-15.7kgCOD/m^3/day$. A stepwise increase of the VLR resulted in a temporary deterioration in the COD removal rate in UASB reactor but recovered quickly. The COD removal rate were 65-70% for VLR up to $5 kgCOD/m^3/day$. When organics VLR was $10kgCOD/m^3/day$, the COD removal rate decreased sharply and there was loss of 17.537g of the seeding biomass due to sludge washout. This result indicated that the UASB system cannot be adapted to more than $10kgCOD/m^3/day$ of VLR. As the organic load increased from 2.6 to $15.7kgCOD/m^3/d$, the biogas production rate varied from 3.2 to 10.8 L/d and the methane conversion rate of the organic matter varied from 0.30 to $0.23m^3CH_4/kg\;COD_{removed}$. The methane content showed the range of 70.1-81.5% during the experimental period. The volatile solids (VS) removal efficiency was similar at the low VLR (< $5 kgCOD/m^3/day$), but it decreased sharply at the high VLR (> $5 kgCOD/m^3/day$). The VS reduction rate was, moreover, large those of COD. The result shows that hydraulic retention time above 2 days is essential in case of treating wastewater containing 1% of solids.

담지된 납산화물 촉매상에서 메탄의 전환반응 (Methane Conversion over Supported Lead Oxide Catalysts)

  • ${\alpha}-{\beta}-,{\gamma}$-알루미나 및 MgO를 담체로 사용하여 담지된 납산화물 촉매를 제조하였다. 담지된 납산화물 촉매상에서 메탄의 $C^{2+}$ 탄화수소로의 전환반응은 MgO 담지촉매에서 $C^{2+}$ 선택도가 최대로 얻어졌으며, ${\gamma}$-알루미나 담지 PbO 촉매에서는 $CO_2$ 선택도가 높았다. 그리고 ${\alpha}$-알루미나 담지촉매에서는 중간정도의 활성이 얻어졌으며, ${\beta}$-알루미나 담지촉매에서는 활성이 거의 나타나지 않았다. 이러한 반응특성은 촉매의 격자산소의 활성에 크게 의존하였으며, 또한 격자 산소의 활성은 담체와 산화물간의 상호작용과 담체의 성질에 영향받았다. 특히 MgO 담지 촉매에서는 X-선 회절분석에서 여타의 담체에서보다 PbO 산화물의 (002)면의 피크 세기가 (111)면의 세기에 비해 훨씬 크게 나타난 것으로 볼 때 메탄의 Oxidative Coupling 반응에서의 표면산화물-담체 상호작용(SOSI)의 한 예로 여겨졌다.

플라즈마 반응에 의한 메탄 활성화에 관한 연구 (The study on the methane activation by a plasma)

  • 저온 플라즈마를 이용한 메탄 직접 전환반응은 진공에서 메탄만을 원료로 마이크로웨이브나 라디오 주파수(R.F)등의 에너지를 가하여 플라즈마 상태로 반응시켜 에틸렌, 에탄, 아세틸렌 등의 C2 화합물을 생성하는 방법이다. 이러한 직접적인 메탄 전환의 장점은 산소를 가하지 않으므로 산소에 의한 부생성물이 없는 점과 저온 플라즈마를 이용하므로 저에너지 공정이라는 것을 들 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 마이크로웨이브와 라디오 주파수(R.F)를 이용하여 저온 플라즈마 반응으로 메탄 전환반응을 수행하였고 일반적인 플라즈마 반응에 사용되는 관형반응기 외에도 독자적인 시리즈 반응기를 설계하여 성능실험을 수행하였다. 또한 플라즈마와 촉매를 이용한 반응실험을 수행 촉매의 영향을 확인하였다. 저온 플라즈마를 이용한 메탄 전환 반응의 특성을 분석한 자료는 공정의 실용화를 위한 반응기 설계 및 반응속도를 분석하기 위한 기초자료로 기대된다.

메탄의 부분산화를 이용한 이중 혼합금속산화물 촉매 반응시스템의 N2O 분해 특성 연구 (N2O Decomposition Characteristics of Dual Bed Mixed Metal Oxide Catalytic System using Partial Oxidation of Methane)

  • Methane의 부분산화에 의하여 일산화탄소를 발생시키고 이를 이용하여 온실가스로 알려져 있는 $N_2O$를 분해시키기 위한 이중 촉매 반응시스템의 반응 특성을 살펴보았다. 일산화탄소를 발생시키기 위한 제1 반응기의 조건은 Co-Rh-Al (1/0.2/1) 촉매를 사용할 때 $500^{\circ}C$의 온도에서 methane과 산소의 비율이 5:1이고 GHSV $8,000h^{-1}$ 일때 가장 적합하였다. 제1 반응기에서 methane을 부분산화시켜 얻은 혼합 가스를 사용하는 이중 반응시스템에서 제2 반응기에 촉매로 Co-Rh-Al(1/0.2/1)과 Co-Rh-Zr-Al(1/0.2/0.3/1)을 사용한 경우 Co-Rh-Al(1/0.2/1) 촉매를 사용한 single bed system 보다 $250^{\circ}C$ 이하의 저온에서 우수한 분해성능을 나타내었다. 두 경우 모두 $250^{\circ}C$ 이상의 온도에서는 $N_2O$가 100% 분해되었다. 또한, 제2 반응기에서 $N_2O$ 분해성능은 NO의 존재 유무에 관계없이 산소의 농도가 증가할수록 감소함을 보여주었다. 다만 NO가 존재할 경우 산소의 농도가 10,000 ppm 이하일 때 100% 분해율을 보이며 그 이상일 경우 급격히 감소하였다.

  • Partial oxidation of methane was carried out by ceria-promoted Ni-substituted hydrotalcite-derived catalysts ($Ce_xNi_3$-HTlc ; x=$0.3{\sim}1.2$) in a fixed-bed reactor. The Ce/Ni ratio of 0.3/3 in the catalyst showed the best catalytic activity but the Ce/Ni ratio became higher above 0.3/3, the catalyst became less active in short-term tests. No ceria promoted catalyst was started to decrease $CH_4$ conversion after 20 h but the Ce/Ni ratio 0.3/3 catalyst was kept its stability in long-term tests.

  • Characteristic of partial oxidation of methane using arc-jet plasma by AC power is investigated. Arc-jet reactor used in this work is slightly modified from typical arc jet reactor so that it can make and sustain stable state of plasma. Methane conversion, selectivity of chemicals such as hydrogen and hydrocarbon materials in the product are analyzed. Parametric approach on the performance of the reactor or detail on the partial oxidation process is carried with $O_2/C$ ratio as parameter. In addition to the results, SED and arc length is changed to understand the effect of current-voltage correlation on the reforming performance and relative role of thermal process.

Bioconversion of methane to methanol using Methylosinus trichosporium OB3b in the repeated batch reaction system

  • Type strain, Methylosinus trichosporium OB3b, was used to convert methane to methanol. To prevent further oxidation of methanol, NaCl and EDTA were used as inhibitors of methanol dehydrogenase. The reaction temperature was $25^{\circ}C$, and the concentrations of cell and sodium formate added to the reaction mixture were 0.6 mg dry cell wt/ml and 20 mM, respectively. During 12hr reaction, 8 mM methanol was accumulated in the reaction mixture. In this reaction $K_m$ and $V_{max}$ values were found to be 532.6 mM and 1.749 mmol/hr, respectively, and the conversion rate was approximately 37%. To increase the concentration of methanol in the medium, a repeated batch reaction was carried out. In this process, methane was injected every eight hours, and the produced methanol concentration was 18 mM.

  • In this study, we investigated operating characteristics of the LNG burner for steam methane reforming. The developed LNG burner and catalytic reactor to supply an efficient heat transfer between the combustion gas and catalyst got a good response of various operating load within 5-7 minute and high efficiency for steam methane reforming as a conversion of methane over 90%. We calculated the volume of catalyst for $1Nm^3/hr$ steam LNG reforming as $211cc/(Nm^3/hr\;H_2)$ and got the operating condition and design data of the burner and steam reforming for LNG.
