The use of arc tubes made of ceramic material further enhanced some of the metal halide lamp's properties. These properties translate into higher efficacy with better color rendering, stable color through lamp long life. Recently, due to an increase in the application of the ceramic metal-halide lamp, the study for the property etc. according to Ballast's driving scheme and the study for arc tube material, optimization of gas and so on are being proceeded to improve the property of the lamp. Especially, to control ceramic metal-halide lamp, the vigorous study and practical use with respect to Electronic Ballast, which has been improved in the disadvantages of the conventional Magnetic Ballast are made. In this paper, Electrical, optical and thermal characteristics are analyzed by comparing magnetic ballast with electronic ballast.
High intensity metal halide discharge lamp performance, specifically the generated luminous flux and light color content, depends critically on the arc tube design. Factors influencing the design and consequent lamp efficacy include : lamp size, geometry, arc tube composition, fill chemistry, electrode design and excitation modes. Shaping of Polycrystalline Alumina(PCA) can be realized by conventional ceramic processes. Several processes are applied nowadays. Well-known in the ceramic high pressure field for decades are the pressing and the extrusion method. Newly developed slurry and precious forming technologies give the one-body seamless tubes, which improve thickness uniformity and lighting performance. Now, we reported some optical properties with different arc tube structures of ceramic metal halide lamps.

Pseudotumors are not uncommon complications after total hip arthroplasty (THA) and may occur due to differences in bearing surfaces of the head and the liner ranging from soft to hard articulation. The most common causes of pseudotumors are foreign-body reaction, hypersensitivity and wear debris. The spectrum of pseudotumor presentation following THA varies greatly-from completely asymptomatic to clear implant failure. We report a case of pseudo-tumor formation with acetabular cup aseptic loosening after revision ceramic-on-metal hip arthroplasty. The patient described herein underwent pseudotumor excision and re-revision complex arthroplasty using a trabecular metal shell and buttress with ceramic-on-polyethylene THA. Surgeons should be aware of the possibility of a pseudotumor when dealing with revisions to help prevent rapid progression of cup loosening and implant failure, and should intervene early to avoid complex arthroplasty procedures.
The metal ceramic crown is currently the most popular complete veneer restoration in dentistry, but in many cases, the metal cervical collar at the facial margin is unesthetic and unacceptable. Facial porcelain margin has been used in place of it. But this dose not solve the problems, such as dark gingival discoloration and cervical opaque reflection of porcelain veneer. Recently, metal copings which were designed to terminate its labio-cervical end on the axial walls coronal to the shoulder have been clinically used to solve the esthetic problem of metal ceramic crown. But in this design, porcelain veneer of labio-cervical area which is not supported by metal may not be able to resist the stress during cementation and mastication. The purpose of this study was to evaluate fracture strength and fractured appearance of crowns according to different coping designs. A resin maxillary left central incisor analogue was prepared for a metal ceramic crown, and metal dies were made with duplication mold. Metal copings were made and assigned to one of four groups based on facial framework designs: group 1, coping with 0.5mm metal collar; group 2, metal extended to the shoulder; group 3, metal extended to 1mm coronal tn the shoulder: group 4, metal extended to 2mm coronal to the shoulder. Copings and crowns were adjusted to be same size and thickness, and cemented to metal dies with zinc phosphate cement by finger pressure. Fracture strength was measured with Instron Universal Testing Machine. Metal dies were anchored in Three-way-vice at 3mm below finish line and at $130^{\circ}$ inclined to the long axis of the crown. Load was directed lingually at 2mm below midincisal edge. Load value at initial crack and at catastrophic fracture was recorded. The results obtained were as follows : 1. Fracture strength values at initial crack were higher in groups 1, 2 than in groups 3, 4 but this difference was not statistically significant(P<0.05). 2. Conventional metal collared crown had greater catastrophic fracture strength than any other collarless crowns. 3. The greater the labial metal coping reduction, the lower the catastrophic fracture strength of crowns but when more than 1mm of labial metal reduction was done, the difference in strengths was not statistically significant(p<0.05). 4. The strongest collarless coping design was group 2.

TZP/SUS- and ZT/SUS-functionally gradient materials (FGM) were fabricated by pressureless sintering in Ar-atmosphere. The sintering defects such as warping, frustrum formation, splitting and cracking which originated from shrinkage and sintering behaviors of metal and ceramics different from each other could be controlled by the adjustment with respect to the particle size and phase type of zirconia. The residual stresses generated on the metal and ceramic regions in FGM were characterized with X-ray diffraction method, and relaxed as the thickness and number of compositional gradient layer were increased. The residual stress states in TZP/SUS-FGM have irregular patterns by means of the different sintering behavior and cracking at ceramic-monolith. While in ZT/SUS-FGM, compressive stress is induced on ceramic-monolith by the volume expansion of monoclinic ZrO2 at phase transformation. Also, compressive stress is induced on metal-monolith by the constraint of warping which may be created to the metal direction by the difference of coefficient of thermal expansions. As a consequence, it has been verified that the residual stress generated on FGM is dominantly influenced by the thickness and number of compositional gradient layer, and the sintering defects and residual stress can be controlled by the constraint of the difference of shrinkage and sintering behaviors of each component.
Functionally gradient materials(FGM), which have the continuous or stepwise variation in a composition and microstructure, are being noticed as the material that solves problems caused by heterogeneous interface of coating or joining. And these materials also expect new functions occured by gradient composition itself. Therefore, to examine possibility of thermal barrier materials, TZP/Mo·FGM and TZP/Ni·FGM were fabricated by sintering method. As to the sintered specimens, sintering shrinkage, relative density and Vicker's hardness in each composition were examined. The phenomena due to the difference of sintering shrinkage velocity during sintering process and the thermal stress induced through differences of thermal expansion coefficient in FGM were discussed. And the structure changes at interface and microsturcture of FGM were investigated. As a results, the difference of shrinkage between ceramic and metal was about 14% in TZP/Mo and 7% in TZP/Ni. The relative density and hardness were considerably influenced by metal content changes. Owing to unbalance of sintering shrinkage velocity between ceramic and metal, various sintering defects were occured. To control these sintering defects and thermal stress, gradient composition of FGM should be narrow. The microstructure changes of FGM depended on the ceramic or metal volume percents and were analogous to the theoretical design.
The ceramic has such high qualities as light weight, abrasion resistance, heat resistance compared with metal, but since it is breakable, it can't be used as structural material and it is desirable to joining metal which is full of toughness, but, according as the ceramic/metal joint is executed at high temperature, the joint residual stress develops near the joint sides in the process of cooling the high temperature down to the suitable temperature due to difference of the thermal expansion coefficient between ceramic and metal, and the joint residualstress lowers the fracture strength. In this study, to ensure security and improvement of bending strength, 1 studies on see distribution shape of residual stress according to high thermal cycle, and the influnence of theraml cycle and distribution shape of residual stess on joint-strength.
Since the ceramic/metal joints is joined at high temperature, the residual stress will develop during when cooled from bonding temperature due to remarkable difference of thermal expansion coefficient between creamic and metal. Moreover, the edge of jointed interface makes singular stress field in the ceramic/metal joints and this singular stress field much influences on the strength of joints. In this study, The influence of residual stress, mechanical load and repeat thermal sysle was estimated in the ceramic/metal joints. According to this influence, the change of singular stress field was analyed and then strength test, X-ray measurement are performed.
