  • This paper presents results of experimental studies on the heat transfer and solidification of the molten metal pool with overlying coolant with boiling. The metal pool is heated from the bottom surface and coolant is injected onto the molten metal pool. As a result, the crust, which is a solidified layer, may form at the top of the molten metal pool. Heat transfer is accomplished by a conjugate mechanism, which consists of the natural convection of the molten metal pool, the conduction in the crust layer and the convective boiling heat transfer in the coolant. This work examines the crust formation and the heat transfer rate on the molten metal pool with boiling coolant. The simulant molten pool material is tin (Sn) with the melting temperature of 232$^{\circ}C$. Demineralized water is used as the working coolant. The crust layer thickness was ostensibly varied by the heated bottom surface temperature of the test section, but not much affected by the coolant injection rate. The correlation beかeon the Nusselt number and the Rayleigh number in the molten metal Pool region of this study is compared against the crust formation experiment without coolant boiling and the literature correlations. The present experimental results are higher than those from the experiment without coolant boiling, but show general agreement with the Eckert correlation, with some deviations in the high and low ends of the Rayleigh number. This discrepancy is currently attributed to concurrent rapid boiling of the coolant on top of the metal layer.

  • $\alpha$-Alumna particles were prepared by a precipitation method with metal fluoride additive. Aluminum nitrate and ammonia solution were used as starting materials. $AlF_3$, $CaF_2$, and $MnF_2$ were utilized as additives. The effects of precipitation solvent and metal fluoride on the phase transformation temperature, size and morphology of $\alpha$-alumna particles were investigated. The solvent for precipitation did not affect the phase transformation temperature, while it influenced the size of $\alpha$-alumna particles. The phase transformation temperature to $\alpha$-alumna was reduced by addition of metal fluoride and was different with metal cation in metal fluoride ($AlF_3(800^{\circ}C)$ < $MnF_2(900^{\circ}C)$ < $CaF_2(950^{\circ}C)$). The addition of each of three metal fluorides led to the formation of platelike particles and, among the three additives, $MnF_2$ additive resulted in the formation of relatively small particle.

  • Present study evaluated the low-temperature destruction of n-hexane and benzene using mesh-type transition-metal platinum(Pt)/stainless steel(SS) catalyst. The parameters tested for the evaluation of catalytic destruction efficiencies of the two volatile organic compounds(VOC) included input concentration, reaction time, reaction temperature, and surface area of catalyst. It was found that the input concentration affected the destruction efficiencies of n-hexane and benzene, but that this input-concentration effect depended upon VOC type. The destruction efficiencies increased as the reaction time increased, but they were similar between two reaction times for benzene(50 and 60 sec), thereby suggesting that high temperatures are not always proper for thermal destruction of VOCs, when considering the destruction efficiency and operation costs of thermal catalytic system together. Similar to the effects of the input concentration on destruction efficiency of VOCs, the reaction temperature influenced the destruction efficiencies of n-hexane and benzene, but this temperature effect depended upon VOC type. As expected, the destruction efficiencies of n-hexane increased as the surface area of catalyst, but for benzene, the increase rate was not significant, thereby suggesting that similar to the effects of the re- action temperature on destruction efficiency of VOCs, high catalyst surface areas are not always proper for economical thermal destruction of VOCs. Depending upon the inlet concentrations and reaction temperatures, almost 100% of both n-hexane and benzene could be destructed, The current results also suggested that when applying the mesh type transition Metal Pt/SS catalyst for the better catalytic pyrolysis of VOC, VOC type should be considered, along with reaction temperature, surface area of catalyst, reaction time and input concentration.

  • In this study, experiments were conducted on the MFB(minimum film boiling) point of highly heated vertical metal rod quenched in aqueous surfactant solution at various temperature conditions. The aqueous Triton X-100 solution(100 wppm) and pure water were used as the liquid pool. Their temperatures ranged from $77^{\circ}C$ to $100^{\circ}C$. A stainless steel vertical rod of initial center temperature of $500^{\circ}C$ was used as a test specimen. In both liquid pools, as the liquid temperature decreased, the time to reach the MFB point decreased with a parallel increase in the temperature and heat flux of the MFB point. However, over the whole present temperature range, in the aqueous Triton X-100 solution, the time to reach the MFB point was longer, while the temperature and heat flux of the MFB point were reduced when compared with pure water. Based on the present experimental data, this study proposed the empirical correlations to predict the MFB temperature of a high temperature vertical metal rod in pure water and in aqueous Triton X-100 solution.

  • Mechanical and corrosion property of duplex stainless steel weldments made by the GTAW and SMAW process were studied. Fracture toughness, general and local corrosion resistance of GTAW and SMAW weldments were evaluated in terms of Charpy V notch impact test, anodic polarization diagram, pitting corrosion rate, respectively. SMA weld metal showed much lower impact toughness and higher ductile-brittle transition temperature than GTA weld metal. Fractographic and EDX analysis on fracture surface of SMA weld metal demonstrated the existence of (Si, Ti), oxide in large amounts. Potentiodynamic anodic polarization diagram of GMA weld metal showed much lower passive current density than SMA weld metal in 4% $H_2/SO_4$ solution. And pitting corrosion rate test showed the same tendency. Relating the microstructure, chemistry and property, it can be concluded that GTA weld metal gives better toughness due to lower oxygen content, i.e. lower inclusion content, and better corrosion resistance due to higher Pitting Index(PI) than SMA weld metal.

  • This paper aims to examine baes metal alloy in all its aspects - the roles of elements, the content of every element according to uses, characters, laboratory technique methods and the kind of artificial base metal alloy registered in A.D.A. Specification. The results are as follows; 1. Base metal alloy is used widely bacaues it is rather cheap, but it should be handled appropriately in operating because its quality is bad. 2. Classifying base metal alloy, it is classified into Co-Cr alloy, Ni-Cr alloy, and Ni-Cr-Co alloy according to element, it is classified into partial denture alloy, surgical alloy and crown & bridge alloy according to use. 3. Among elements of base metal alloy, Bellium lowers the melting point of the alloy and increases the strength, but the amount should be limited when it is used because it destroys the organization of a living body. 4. The investments for base metal alloy are ethyl silcate bonded investment and phosphate bonded investment which endure well at high burn out temperature. 5. A.D.A specification No.14 in Kore contains Niranium, Nobilium, regalloy, Ticonium and Vitallium.

  • Thin Film Transistor(TFTs) were fabricated from poly-Si crystallized by a two-step annealing process on glass substrates. The combination of low-temperature(500$^{\circ}C$) Metal-Induced Lateral Crystallization(MILC) furnace annealing and high -temperature (700$^{\circ}C$) rapid thermal annealing leads to the improvement of the material quality The TFTs measured with this two-step annealing material exhibit better characteristics than those obtained by using conventional MILC furnace annealing.

  • The key factor of quality in precision metal forming is to meet the requirements of parts size and shape. Particular problem of unflatness occurs frequently. This study focuses on figuring out the cause of unflatness. To predict the amount of unflatness after ejection from tool, equivalent temperature method is used. This method, temperature equivalent to the final stress value is calculated, and it is applied as the boundary condition of the linear static analysis. The final of formed part is used as the geometry model of the static analysis.

  • In most LMFBR(Liquid Metal Fast Breed Reactor) design, the operating temperature is very high and the time-dependent creep and stress-rupture effects become so important in reactor structural design. Therefore, unlike with conventional PWR, the normal operating conditions can be basically dominant design loading because the hold time at elevated temperature condition is so long and enough to result in severe total creep ratcheting strains during total service lifetime. In this paper, elevated temperature design of the conceptually designed baffle annulus regions of KALIMER(Korea Advanced Liquid MEtal Reactor) reactor internal strictures is carried out for normal operating conditions which have the operating temperature 53$0^{\circ}C$ and the total service lifetime of 30 years. For the elevated temperature design of reactor internal structures, the ASME Code Case N-201-4 is used. Using this code, the time-dependent stress limits, the accumulated total inelastic strain during service lifetime, and the creep-fatigue damages are evaluated with the calculation results by the elastic analysis under conservative assumptions. The application procedures of elevated temperature design of the reactor internal structures using ASME Code Case N-201-4 with the elastic analysis method are described step by step in detail. This paper will be useful guide for actual application of elevated temperature design of various reactor types accounting for creep and stress-rupture effects.

  • Electrical conduction characteristics of XLPE film evaporated with different metal electrode are discussed. The relation between electrical current(I) and Voltage(V) in the M(metal)-I(XLPE)-M(metal) structure are measured in the temperature range from 25$[^{\circ}C]$ to 90[$[^{\circ}C]$ . Several kinds of metals are used as electrode, such as, Al, Ag and Cu.From the experimental results, it is conclused that the conduction mechanism at highelectric field is SCLC. The dependences of temperature and kinds of metal on the trap filled electric field level can be well explained by this theory.
