  • The present report is the investigation of the effects of the HIP treatment on plasma-sprayed ceramic coating of $Al_2O_3$, $Al_2O_3-SiO_2$ on the metal substrate. These effects were characterized by phase identification, Vickers hardness measurement, and tensile test before and after HIPing.

전이금속을 첨가한 플라즈마 TiO2 복합 용사피막의 광전류 특성 (Photocurrent Characteristics of Plasma Sprayed TiO2 Composite Coatings according to Additive Transition Metal)

  • In this study, the photocurrent characteristics of plasma sprayed $TiO_2$ coatings have been investigated according to additive transition metal (Fe, Mn, Nb powder) and heat treatment conditions. The plasma sprayed $TiO_2$ coatings by heat treatment at $400^{\circ}C$ and 90 min had the higher photocurrent at ultraviolet light, no photocurrent at visible light. The photocurrent of plasma sprayed $TiO_2$ coatings added by Fe, Mn, Nb (named by plasma sprayed $TiO_2$ composite coatings) was lower than that of plasma sprayed $TiO_2$ coatings at ultraviolet light, as was low in intensity ratio of XRD(101)/(110). and the atomic percentage of oxygen by plasma sprayed $TiO_2$ composite coatings was higher than that by plasma sprayed $TiO_2$ coatings. The photocurrent of plasma sprayed $TiO_2$ composite coatings in heat treatment at $400^{\circ}C$ and 90 min was higher than that of plasma sprayed $TiO_2$ coatings in same heat treatment conditions at ultraviolet and visible light, as was high in oxygen affinity by heat treatment.

  • The recent introduction of Metal spraying method apply to construction and civil steel structure is increasing. In applying the metal spraying lining process of construction and civil steel structure to secure the adhesion strength between the metal thermal spray coating and the steel structure and the highest priority requirements are required bond strength test reliable measurement accordingly. In this study, by calculating the deposition intensity and the standard deviation, coefficient of variation corresponding to the bonding area, unlike the shape of the attachment we compared the results.

  • 금속용사 또는 도장은 강구조물의 방식에 널리 사용되고 있다. 금속용사와 도장의 복합피복방식법은 혹독한 부식환경하에 놓인 강구물의 새로운 일반적 피복방식법으로 선택되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 아연, 아연-15%알루미늄 합금, 알루미늄, 알루미늄-5%마그네슘 합금의 4종류 금속용사 후 실링 처리한 시편, 4종류 금속용사 후 중방식 도장한 시편과 도장한 시편에 대해 175일간의 NORSOK M-501 부식촉진실험, 250일간의 해수 Wet/dry 반복 부식실험, 3년간의 해양환경 옥외노출실험을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 외관관찰에 근거하여 각 방식법의 내후성능을 비교, 검토하였다.

  • High velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) spray coating of WC-metal powder (powder) was carried out to improve the resistances of friction, wear and corrosion of magnetic bearing shaft material Inconel718 (In718) of turbo blower. A micron sized WC-metal powder (86.5% WC, 9.5% Co 4% Cr) was coated onto In718 surface using HVOF thermal spraying. During the spraying, the binder metals and alloy such as Co, Cr and Co-Cr alloy were molten and a small portion of WC particles were partially decomposed to $W_2C$ and free carbon at above its decomposition temperature of $1250^{\circ}C$. The free carbon and excessively sprayed oxygen formed carbon oxide gases, resulting a porous coating of porosity of $2.2{\pm}0.3%$. The surface hardness of substrate increased approximately three times from 400 Hv of In718 to $1260{\pm}30Hv$ of the coating The friction coefficients of the coating were approximately $0.33{\pm}0.03$ at $25^{\circ}C$ and $0.26{\pm}0.03$ at $450^{\circ}C$. These values were smaller than those of In718 substrate at both temperatures due to the lubrication from the free carbon and the cobalt oxide debris. The corrosion resistance of the coating was higher than that of In718 both in salt water of 3.5% NaCl and acid of 1 M HCl solutions, on the contrary, it was lower in base solution of 1 M NaOH. According to this study, the HVOF WC-metal powder coating is recommended for the durability improvement of magnetic bearing shaft of turbo blower.

용융 55%Al-Zn 중에서 세라믹 용사 피막의 침식 거동에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Erosion Behavior of the Ceramic Sprayed Coating Layer in the Molten 55% Al-Zn)

  • Sink roll has been used in molten 55%Al-Zn alloy bath of continuous galvanizing line for sinking and stabilizing working steel strip in molten metal bath. In the process, the sink roll body inevitably build up dross compounds and pitting on the sink roll surface during 55%Al-Zn alloy coated strip production, and the life time of the sink roll is shorten by build up dross compounds and pitting. The present study examined the application of thermally sprayed ceramic coatings method on sink roll body for improving erosion resistance at molten 55% Al-Zn pool. In this experiment, the stainless steels such as STS 316L and STS 430F were used as the substrate materials. The CoNiCr and WE-Co powder were selected as bond coating materials. Moreover $Al_2O_3-ZrO_2-SiO_2 and ZrO_2-SiO_2$ powders selected as the top coating materials. Appearances of the specimens before and after dipping to molten 55%Al-Zn pool were compared and analyzed. As a result of this study, STS430F of substrate, WC-Co of bond spray coatings, $ZrO_2-SiO_2$ power of top spray coatings is the best quality in erosion resistance test at molten 55%Al-Zn pool

용사법에 의해 제작된 금속/세라믹 경사기능 재료의 기계적 특성 (Mechanical Properties of Metal/Ceramic FGM made by Thermal Spraying Method)

  • This study was aimed at development of fabrication process of functionally graded materials(FGM), consisting of metal and ceramic by thermal spraying method. NiCrAIY/$Al_2O_3$ FGM were made by using plasma spraying onto the SS400 carbon steel substrate. And mechanical properties such as microhardness, thermal shock resistance and adhesive strength of the coating layer were investigated. Adhesive strength was evaluated by acoustic emission method. It was resulted that NiCrAIY/$Al_2O_3$ FGM made by thermal spraying method showed excellent thermal shock resistance and adhesive strength compared to the other lamellar structures of sprayed coatings and that AE is useful tool to evaluate the defect of thermal sprayed coating layer.

  • The cementless fixation of bone ingrowth by porous coatings on artificial hip joint prostheses are replacing polymethylmethacrylate(PMMA) bone cement fixations. However, the major interests in the field of porous metal coating are environmental corrosivity accelerated by metal ion release, deterioration in the mechanical property of the coating, and the mechanical failure of the coatings as well as the substrate. Therefore, the selection of right materials for coatings and the development of porous coating techniques must be accomplished. Because of the existing problems in Ti and Ti alloys which are used extensively, this study is focused on the plasma spraying technique for coating on super stainless steel substrate. In order to determine the optimum conditions which satisfy the requirement for the porous coatings, under the plasma spraying, we selected the experimental parameters which extensively influenced on the characteristics of the coating through the pre-examination. Spray distance has been selected among 120, 160, and 200mm and primary gas flow rate among 70, 100, and 130 SCFH. Current and secondary gas($H_2$) flow rate was fixed at 400A, and 15 SCFH respectively. To understand the characteristics of the coatings, surface morphology, cross-sectional micro-structure, surface roughness, residual stress, and corrosion resistance were elucidated and the best conditions for the bone ingrowth improvement on artificial hip joint prostheses were found.

플라즈마 용사용 $Al_2O_3/SS316$ 복합 분말 제조 및 경사 코팅충의 제조에 관한 연구 (Properties of Plasma Sprayed $Al_2O_3/SS316$ Graded Coatings)

  • In the case of using high temperature by coating ceramic/metal, large stress was produced due to difference of thermal expansion coefficient between those. And then lead to delamination. In order to relaxation of the stress A1$_2$O$_3$/SS316 composite powders with $10wt.%Al_2O_3$ compositional gradient and $10wt.%Al_2O_3$ agglomerated powder were made by spray drying method. These powders were sintered to improve the strength and to be plasma sprayed in order to fabricate the FGC(functionally graded coating). The influence of gun power, working distance and Ar pressure on the microstructure of the coating layer was studied in order to optimize the plasma spray conditions. It was proven that the optimum conditions were 40kw gun power, 5cm working distance and $100ft^3/h$ Ar flow for both powders. FGC with 10 compositional steps was fabricated and the total thickness was 1.3mm. FGC was heat treated at $1100^{\circ}C$for 10hours to evaluate the heat resisting characteristics.

경사기능성 세라믹/ 금속 복합재료의 열충격특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Thermal Shock Characteristics of Functionally Gradient Ceramic/Metal Composites)

  • This study was carried out to anlayze the heat-resistant characteristics of functionally gradient material(FGM) composed with ceramic and metal. The thermal fracture behavior of plasma-sprayed FGM and conventional coating material(NFGM) was exaimined by acoustic emession technique under heating and cooling. Furnace cooling and rapid cooling tests were used to examine the effect of temperature change under various conditions, respectively. At the high temperature above $800^{\circ}C$, it was shown that FGM gives higher thermal resistance compared to NFGM by AE signal and fracture surface analysis.
