The changes of growth and protein synthesis pattern by aluminum (Al), cadmium (Cd), zinc (Zn) treatments were studied in Cyanobacterium synechocystis sp. PCC 6803. When exposed to Al from 5ppm to 3oppm, synechocystis grows normally. But more than that retard the growth of algae notably. The 0.05ppm Cd additions had no effect on the growth of algae. 0.1, 0.2, and 0.5ppm Cd inhibited growth. Under 1 and 2ppm Cd stress, growth was greatly diminished. Zn had dual effects. The growth of algae in media containing 5ppm was stimulated. As concentration increases more than l5ppm, growth inbition increases. Under 25ppm Zn stress, growth was greatly diminished. According to logistic theory, r and K values of each heavy metal-treated groups were estimated. Correlation analysis of r and K values with metal concentration shows that there is negative correlation between K and concentration in Cd and Zn treatments. Critical concentration which shows lethal or sublethal effect was estimated by t-test of each r and K value. The cells cultured in 10, 20, 30, 40 and 5oppm of Al, 1 and 2ppm of Cd, and 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30ppm of Zn for 4 days was used for protein analysis. Analysis of protein synthesis with SDS-PACE showed alterations of protein synthesis pattern. The synthesis of protein about 220kD increased markedly. In this study, it showed that resistance mechanism against Al, Cd, and Zn is K selection and that metal stress induced the change of protein synthesis in Cyanobacterium synechocystis sp. PCC 6803.Key words:Cyanobacterium synechocystis sp. FCC 6803, Heavy metals, Aluminum, Cadmiutm Zinc, Crowth, Frotein synthesis.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between zirconia core thickness and color tone blocking of discolored tooth and metal post. Methods: For this study, we made 20-porcelain sample and 4-metal sample( liechtenstein IPS e.max) bonded to zirconia core of different thickness with cement(Relyx ARC-3M USA)for produce discolored. We measured the color-spectral characteristics, using Shadepilot equipment(Degudent USA).We measured it with Shadepilot equipment set by automated average mode in 3 times And applied the average value obtained from 2 times of measurement in the middle of each sample. Results: As a result of analysing color-spectral characteristics on zirconia core sample, Depending on the thickness of zirconia core, the value of brightness(${\Delta}L*$:color-spectral characteristic) was increased within limited range, value of ${\Delta}a*$, ${\Delta}b*$ was decrease. Conclusion: Consequently, we obtained the following results: Changes of sample color were observed depending on the thickness of zirconia, but the range of change did not exceed the scope range of shade guide. The case of metal posts, shade guide color D2 were observed in 0.5mm of zirconia core thickness. As a result, in case of porcelain, increasing the zirconia thickness of 0.3mm or more is unnecessary for color blocking effect, in case of metal post, considering the discolored tooth, thickness of zirconia with at least 0.5mm or more is recommended.
In order to certificate the distribution and pollution of heavy metal of surface sediments in Nakdong River were collected and analyzed for grain size, water content, ignition loss and heavy metal content. Surface sediments mainly composed of sand(avg. 94.6%) and water content and ignition loss were 20.46%, 1.53% on average. Grain size were relatively fine and organic matter content were relatively high in the Hoichun and Sunakdonggang. Most of heavy metal content(Zn > Cr > Pb > Ni > Cu > Hg) in the Deokcheongang and Sunakdonggang were higher than the other streams. The Igeo were non polluted(less than 0) in all streams and the EF were relatively high in the small stream and PLI were non polluted(less than 1). In addition, organic matter, heavy metal content and pollution were highly correlation with grain size. Surface sediments in study area, heavy metal pollution of the Sunakdonggang were relatively high compared to the other stream but these results were not serious pollution that exceed the sediment pollution evaluation standard of river and lake in Korea and pollution levels adversely affected the majority of benthos were not.
This study evaluated the relative extraction ratio (RER) of As and heavy metals (Cd, Cu and Pb) in paddy soils using the two types extractant, 0.05 M EDTA and 0.43 M HNO3. The RER was calculated by dividing the concentrations of metals obtained by 0.05 M EDTA or 0.43 M HNO3 extraction by those obtained by aqua regia extraction. The RER of 0.43 M HNO3 was larger than that of 0.05 M EDTA. Correlation analysis indicated there was statistically significant correlation (p<0.001) between the concentration in aqua regia and 0.05 M EDTA or 0.43 M HNO3. Especially, Cd showed the higher correlation than other metals. Stepwise multiple linear regression analyses indicated soil pH, CEC, organic matter content, and soil texture all influenced the metal extraction rates and bioavailability of the metals.
BACKGROUND: Heavy metals contamination of soils in the vicinity of abandoned mines in South Korea has been investigated. However, PAHs contamination rarely has been studied. Both heavy metals and PAHs concentrations have been measured in this study. METHODS AND RESULTS: The samples of soil and sediment were collected from the vicinities of three abandoned coal mines and two abandoned metal mines for analysis of heavy metals contaminants and PAHs concentration from April to September 2012. After preparation of these samples following the Korean standard test method for soils, the concentrations of heavy metals contaminants and PAHs were measured using ICP-OES and GC-MS, respectively. It was observed that the concentration of Arsenic was above the concern level based on 'area 1' suggested by Korean soil conservation law, resulting that Arsenic is the main contaminant in these areas. Also Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn were observed as a partial contaminants. The concentrations of other investigated components including benzo(a)pyrene were less than the concern level. CONCLUSION: The correlation observed between Arsenic (as main contaminant) and PAHs concentrations suggested that the contaminant source and pathway are different for each other. The effect of mine activity on PAHs concentration was rarely observed.

PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the reliability of computer-aided replica technique (CART) by calculating its agreement with the replica technique (RT), using statistical agreement analysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A prepared metal die and a metal crown were fabricated. The gap between the restoration and abutment was replicated using silicone indicator paste (n = 25). Gap measurements differed in the control (RT) and experimental (CART) groups. In the RT group, the silicone replica was manually sectioned, and the marginal and occlusal gaps were measured using a microscope. In the CART group, the gap was digitized using optical scanning and image superimposition, and the gaps were measured using a software program. The agreement between the measurement techniques was evaluated by using the 95% Bland-Altman limits of agreement and concordance correlation coefficients (CCC). The least acceptable CCC was 0.90. RESULTS. The RT and CART groups showed linear association, with a strong positive correlation in gap measurements, but without significant differences. The 95% limits of agreement between the paired gap measurements were 3.84% and 7.08% of the mean. The lower 95% confidence limits of CCC were 0.9676 and 0.9188 for the marginal and occlusal gap measurements, respectively, and the values were greater than the allowed limit. CONCLUSION. The CART is a reliable digital approach for evaluating the fit accuracy of fixed dental prostheses.
In the Chinhae Bay, Korea, sedimentation rates and sedimentary record of anthropogenic metal loads were determined by $^{210}Pb$ dating and heavy metal analysis of four sediment cores . The sedimentation rates varied from 0.16g/$cm^2$/yr(3.1mm/yr) at Sta. Ct, located within narrow waterway to 0.24g/$cm^2$/yr(4.8mm/yr) at Sta. Cl, located in Haengam Bay. Maximum contents of Mn, Zn, Cu and Cr were observed at Sta. C2 located near the mouth of Masan Bay, while minimum contents were observed at Sta. CB. Mn/Fe ratios at Sta. C2 and Sta. C4 showed gradually increasing and decreasing downward, respectively, in the upper layer of sediment cores. This suggests that Mn may be diagenetically redistributed in highly reduced environment. At Sta. C2, the concentrations of Zn and Cu began to increase from 1920s by anthropogenic input and have been remarkablely increasing since mid 1960s. At Sta. C3, located near Sungpo, anthropogenic input of these two elements has also slightly increased after 1970s. However, pollution of these two elements was not significant in Haengam Bay(Sta. Cl) and Chiljun watenway(Sta. C4). The pollution of Co, Ni and Cr was not remarkable in all core samples except surface sediment of Sta. C2. The total input of anthropogenic Zn and Cu since 1920s was estimated to be 28∼792 ㎍/cm2 and 0∼168㎍/cm2, respectively. Sta. C2 showed remarkablely higher values relative to other stations: anthropogenic loads of Zn and Cu constituted 27% and 29% of the total sedimentary inventories at the present day, respectively. Fe, Ni, Cr and Co contents showed good correlation(r>0.8) with each other. Anthropogenic Zn and Cu also showed a very good positive correlation(>0.9). However, correlation between these two group of element was quite scattered, indicating different sources and geochemical behaviors.

Background: Abandoned metal mines are classified as vulnerable areas with the highest level of soil contamination among risk regions. People living near abandoned metal mines are at increased risk of exposure to toxic metals. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between soil contamination levels in areas around abandoned metal mine and the blood lead levels of local residents. Moreover, we assess the possibility of using soil contamination levels as a predictive indicator for human exposure level. Methods: Data from the Survey of Residents around Abandoned Metal Mines (2013~2017, n=4,421) and Investigation of Soil Pollution in Abandoned Metal Mines (2000~2011) were used. A random coefficient model was conducted for estimation of the lower level (micro data) of the local resident unit and the upper level (macro data) of the abandoned metal mine unit. Through a fitted model, the variation of blood lead levels among abandoned metal mines was confirmed and the effect of the operationally defined soil contamination level was estimated. Results: Among the total variation in blood lead levels, the variation between abandoned mines was 18.6%, and the variation determined by the upper-level factors such as soil contamination and water contamination was 8.1%, which was statistically significant respectively. There was also a statistically significant difference in the least square mean of blood lead concentration according to the level of soil contamination (p=0.047, low: 2.32 ㎍/dL, middle: 2.38 ㎍/dL, high: 2.59 ㎍/dL). Conclusions: The blood lead concentration of residents living near abandoned metal mines was significantly correlated with the level of soil contamination. Therefore, in biomonitoring for vulnerable areas, operationally defined soil contamination can be used as a predictor for human exposure level to hazardous substances and discrimination of high-risk abandoned metal mines.
