A STUDY ON COPPER DEPOSITION PROCESS DURING ANODIC OXIDATION OF ALUMINIUM ALLOY

  • The structure and composition of anodic films, formed on 6063 commercial aluminium alloy at constant current density of $1.5A/^dm2$ with various superimposed cathodic current ratio, in the range 0~33%, in the 11% $H_2SO_4$ with various concentration of $CuSO_4{\cdot}5H_2O$, in the range 0~75 g/l, without cathodic current are generally porous-type and no sign of Cu co-deposition appearance, suggesting that cathodic current is an important factor in the Cu co-deposition. Comparison with the anodic film thickness measurement results obtained from anodic film formed by direct anodic current and anodic film formed by superimposed various portion of cathodic current, the portion of cathodic current of input current increases with decrease of anodic film thickness and increases with increase of concentration of $Cu_2S{\;}and{\;}Cu_2O$ in the anodic film.

Annealing Effect on Magnetic Properties and Electromagnetic Absorption Behaviors for Fe-Cr Alloy Powder-Polymer Composites

  • We investigated annealing effect of microforged powders on magnetic properties and electromagnetic absorption behaviors for ferromagnetic Fe-Cr metal alloy powder-polymer composites. The coercive properties greatly decreased with annealing temperature and the magnetic permeability had significantly increased after microforging and subsequent annealing treatment, due to a reduction in lattice strain of the microforged powders. The power loss in the far field regime also had greatly increased after microforging and subsequent annealing treatment in frequency range from 50 MHz to 6 GHz. As a result, the electromagnetic absorption of ferromagnetic Fe-Cr alloy metal powder-polymer composites was highly improved because of the relaxation of the internal strain during annealing process.

Wear characteristics of High Carbon 9CrSi Alloy Steel of Laser Surface Cladding (Laser Surface Cladding 고탄소 9CrSi 합금강의 마모 특성)

  • The microstructure and the distribution of hardness of Co and A1 alloy powder cladding layer in high carbon 9CrSi alloy steel for roll materials cladded by laser surface cladding were investigated. And, for the evaluation of soundness as the roll materials, we examined the wear resistance of the cladding materials with the wear appratus of pin on disc type. The experimental results showed that the microstructure of laser cladding layer was constituted with the clad surface layer, the alloy layer, the heat treatment layer with base metal. The wear resistance of Ni alloy Powder cladding material was superior to that of Co alloy powder cladding material both at the low speed (0.46m/s) and the high speed(0.92m/s). It seemed that the behavior of wear showed the abrasive wear at the early stage and the adhesive wear at the late stage.

  • Theoretical and practical aspects are investigated for electrochemical behavious, plating processes and the structures of electrodeposit of Pb-Sn binary alloy plating through numerous literatures in this report. The anodic and cathodic electrode reaction mechanisms of Pb and Sn could co-deposit and make Pb-Sn alloy deposit from the results of cathode current density-cathode potential curves of Pb, Sn and Pb-Sn alloys in fluoborate solutions. The compositions of the best alloy plating solutions are obtained for the purpose of bearing, anticorrosion and solder plating. In general, the casting anodes of Pb-Sn alloys are used, but separated anodes of Pb and Sn pure metal are used in order to obtain the fine compositions of Pb-Sn alloy deposits. The electrodeposits of Pb-Sn alloy are in nonequilibrium state and saturated solid solutions. Thus, ${\beta}$-phase (Sn-phase) is precipitated by heat treatment. The texture and structure of the electrodeposit are associated with the surface energies of deposit lattice planes and with the cathode polarization. The electrodeposit of Pb-Sn alloy is shown as lamellar structure.

Cyclic Deformation and Fatigue Behavior of Short Fiber Reinforced Metal Matrix Composites (단섬유보강 금속복합재료의 반복적 변형 및 피로특성)

  • Al6061 alloy reinforced with 15 volume% of Saffil fibers was fabricated by squeeze infiltration method. Uniform distribution of reinforcements and good bondings between reinforcements and matrix alloy were found in the microstructure of composites. Comparing with A16061 matrix alloy, tensile strength and elastic modulus of $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$/Al composites were increased up to 26% and 31%, respectively. Cyclic deformation and fatigue behavior of $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$/Al metal matrix composites were studied. The specimens were cycled using tension-tension(R=0.1) loading and under load controlled fatigue test. Cyclic stress-displacement curve through fatigue test was obtained. Fatigue strength of $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$/Al composites was about 200 MPa, i.e.0.55 of applied stress level(q). During fatigue test, $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$/Al composites displayed cyclic hardening at all applied stress levels. The most of resultant displacement due to permanent plastic deformation occurred in less than the first 5% of fatigue life. Displacement-to-failure of the fatigue test was smaller than that of the tensile test because of accumulative damage by cumulative plastic deformation.

Evaluation of J-R Curve for Aluminum 5083 Alloy Weldment by Load Ratio Analysis (Load Ratio 해석에 의한 알루미늄 5083 합금 용접부의 J-R곡선 평가)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the J-R curve characteristics for the 5083 aluminum alloy weldment by the load ratio analysis. The results of the load ratio analysis are compared with those of the J-R curve which are obtained by the ASTM unloading compliance method. The crack length calculated by the load ratio analysis is agrees well with the measured final crack length. The slope of the exponential J-R curve estimated by the load ratio analysis is slightly smaller than that by the ASTM unloading compliance method. The exponential correlation of the J-R curve for the 5083 aluminum alloy base metal by the load ratio analysis is J = 93.88 ${\Delta}{\alpha}^{0.375}$. That for the weld metal and HAZ is J = 69.87 ${\Delta}{\alpha}^{0.389}$ and J = 70.59 ${\Delta}{\alpha}^{0.359}$ respectively. The J-R curve obtained by the ASTM unloading compliance method is overpredicted and should be offsetted due to the initial negative crack. On the other hand, the load ratio analysis method can evaluate the J-R curve by only load displacement curve without particular crack measurement equipment.

Cladding of Cu and Bronze/Al Alloy by $CO_2$ Laser (고출력 $CO_2$레이저빔에 의한 구리, 청동/알루미늄 합금 클래딩)

  • Laser cladding is a technique for modification of metal surface. In this laser cladding experiment a metal powder feeding system was developed for more efficient laser cladding. This system can reduce processing time and be used simpler than the conventional method. The feeding of metal powder has given a rise to the process for sequential buildup of bulk rapidly solidified materials in the form of fine powder stream to the laser cladding process. The parameters of laser cladding have been investigated using this experimental equipment. Bronze on aluminum alloy and copper on aluminum alloy were experimented by using defocused beam, powder feeding system, and gas shielding. Good cladding was achieved in the range of beam travel speed of 2.25m/min. In the case of copper/aluminum and bronze/aluminum substrate, the absorption of laser beam was too high to produce low diluted clad. In the case of copper/1050 aluminum, the optimal laser cladding condition was of laser power of 2.8kW, powder feed rate of 0.31g/s and beam travel speed of 2.25m/min. In the case of bronze/aluminum the optimal condition is of laser power of 2.5kW, powder feed rate of 0.31g/s, and beam travel speed of 2.36m/min.

  • In this paper, study about property evaluation for the metal matrix composites fabricated by low pressure infiltration process. Aluminum alloy composite which is reinforced by Metal fiber preform was fabricated by low pressure casting process. Infiltration condition was changed the pressure infiltration time of 1 sec, 2 sec and 5 sec under a constant pressure of 0.4 MPa. The molten alloy completely infiltrated the FeCrSi metal perform regardless of the increase in the pressure acceleration time. The the porosity in the FeCrSi/AC8A composite was investigated. The porosity was reduced as the pressure acceleration time as shorter. The FeCrSi/AC8A composite was investigated the wear test for to know the relationship between Porosity and wear resistance. FeCrSi/AC8A composite at pressure acceleration time of 1sec is shown excellent wear resistance.

  • This study investigated the effect of the changes in metal characteristics due to the hot forging on SCR420HB applied to ensure the optimal production of the hot-forging ratio on the mechanical properties of an automotive automatic transmission gear. The microstructural changes in the forging ratio were investigated by adjusting the forging range into multiple ranges from alloy steel. This was done in order to set the optimum forging range given the manufacturing process conditions during the hot forging of alloy steel parts with a carbon content of more than 0.8% wt. The effects of the content change in the microstructure on the mechanical properties due to the use of the part were examined.

The porosity is reducing as the pressure acceleration time compared with the pressure acceleration time of 2s and 5s. The FeCrSi/A366.0 composites were investigated the wear resistance. FeCrSi/A366.0 composite at pressure acceleration time of 1s has excellent wear resistance.
