마그네슘용탕의 니켈 함량에 미치는 알루미늄, 망간 및 지르코늄의 영향 (Effect of Aluminum, Manganese, and Zirconium on the Content of Nickel in Molten Magnesium)

  • Variations of nickel contents and microstructures in molten magnesium alloys on the addition of aluminum, zirconium, and manganese have been investigated. Specimens were prepared by melting under $SF_6$ and $CO_2$ atmosphere and casting into a disc of 29 mm diameter with 7~10 mm thickness from the melt acquired at the top of crucible. Before casting, the molten metal was stirred for 3 minutes after each addition of alloying elements and maintained for 30 minutes for settling down. Results showed that zirconium did not significantly affect the content of nickel while aluminum remarkably reduced it by forming $Al_3Ni_2$ phase. When manganese are added to Mg-1wt%Ni alloy along with aluminum, both elements remarkably reduced the content of nickel. The addition of 1.5 wt% manganese to Mg-1wt%Ni alloy containing aluminum further reduced the content of nickel by more than 30%, during which an additional intermetallic phase $Al_{10}Mn_3Ni$ was precipitated in the molten magnesium.

  • In order to enhance the rate of th nitridation and to give the high density of reaction-bonded silicon nitride MgO powder as nitriding aid were added to silicon powders and the mixture was pressed isostatically into compacts which were nitrided in the furnace of 1, 35$0^{\circ}C$ where 95% $N_2$-5% $H_2$ gases were flowing. As the other nitriding aid $Mg(NO_3)_2 6H_2O$ was selected, A slip made of magnesium nitrate solution and fine silicon particles was spray-dried and then decomposed at 30$0^{\circ}C$. Magnesium oxide-coated silicon powders were formed into compacts prior to the nitridation on the same condition as the former. Magnesium nitrate (MgO, produced from the decomposition of magnesium nitrate) was more effective for the formation of the $\beta$-phase in the initial stage of the nitridation probably due to the easy formation of $MgO-SiO_2$-metal oxide eutectic melt. It has been confirmed that forsterite was formed as a result of the reaction between MgO and $SiO_2$ film of silicon surface. It was considered that MgO produced from magnesium nitrate may be finer more reactive and more uniformly distributed on the surface of silicon particles than original MgO. The higher the forming pressure was the more the $\beta$-phase was formed.

  • The dynamic behavior of sheet metals must be examined to ensure the impact characteristics of auto-body by a finite element method. An appropriate experimental method has to be developed to acquire the material properties at the intermediate strain rate which is under 500/s in the crash analysis of auto-body. In this paper, tensile tests of various different steel sheets for an auto-body were performed to obtain the dynamic material properties with respect to the strain rate which is ranged from 0.003/sec to 200/sec. A high speed material testing machine was made for tension tests at the intermediate strain rate and the dimensions of specimens that can provide the reasonable results were determined by the finite element analysis. Stress-strain curves were obtained for each steel sheet from the dynamic tensile test and used to deduce the relationship of the yield stress and the elongation to the strain rate. These results are significant not only in the crashworthiness evaluation under car crash but also in the high speed metal forming.

열 생성 알루미나 박막의 크리프 및 인장 특성 (Creep & Tensile Properties of Thermally Grown Alumina Films)

  • Alpha-phase alumina TGO(Thermally Grown Oxide) forms on the interface between zirconia top coat and bond coat of thermal barrier coating system for superalloys during exposure to high temperature over $1000^{\circ}C$. It is known to provide a good protection against hot corrosion and to cause surface failure such as rumpling and cracking due to difference in thermal expansion coefficient from the substrate metal and the lateral growth. Consequently, mechanical properties of the alumina TGO at the high temperature are the key parameters determining the integrity of TBC system. In this work, by using Fecralloy foils as the alumina forming substrate, creep tests and tensile tests have been performed with various TGO thicknesses$(h=0{\sim}4{\mu}m)$ and yttrium contents(0, 200ppm) at $1200^{\circ}C$. Displacement-time curves and load-displacement curves for each TGO thickness(h=1,2,..) were measured from the creep and tensile tests, respectively, and compared with the curves without TGO thickness(h=0). As the result, the intrinsic tensile and creep properties of TGO itself were determined.

드로우 금형의 에어 포켓 형상 및 체적예측 자동화 시스템 개발 (Development of an Automated System for Predicting Shape and Volume of Air Pocket on the Draw Die)

  • Metal stamping is widely used in the mass-production process of the automobile. During the stamping process, air may be trapped between the draw die and the panel and/or between the punch and the panel. Air pocket rapidly not only increases forming load in the final stage, but also deforms the product just formed by compressive air inside the air pocket in knockout process. To prevent these problems air bent holes are drilled in the die to exhaust the trapped air but all processes associated with air bent holes are performed by empirical know-how of workers in the field due to lack of researches. Therefore this study developed an automated design system for predicting the shape and position, and volume of air pocket on the draw die by using the AutoLISP language under AutoCAD circumstance. The system is able to display the shape of air pocket occurred in the draw die and to calculate automatically its volume by strokes. So it makes a stepping stone to calculate theoretical size of an air bent hole and numbers according to it by predicting and analyzing the position and volume of air pocket. Results obtained from the system enable the designers or manufacturers of the stamping die to be more efficient in this field.

SiC계 복합체의 특성에 미치는 Boride의 영향 (Effects of Boride on Properties of SiC Composites)

  • The composites were fabricated, respectively, using 61vol.% SiC-39vol.% $TiB_2$ and using 61vol.% SiC-39vol.% $ZrB_2$ powders with the liquid forming additives of 12wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ by hot pressing annealing at $1650^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours. Reactions between SiC and transition metal $TiB_2$, $ZrB_2$ were not observed in this microstructure. The result of phase analysis of composites by XRD revealed SiC(6H, 3C), $TiB_2$, $ZrB_2$ and $YAG(Al_5Y_3O_{12})$ crystal phase on the SiC-$TiB_2$, and SiC-$ZrB_2$ composites. The ${\beta}\;{\alpha}$-SiC phase transformation was occurred on the $SiC-TiB_2$, $SiC-ZrB_2$ composites. The relative density, the flexural strength and Young's modulus showed respectively value of 98.57%, 226.06Mpa and $86.37{\times}10^3Mpa$ in SiC-$ZrB_2$ composites.

  • Production machines have been more important, due to quality level of vehicle motor core is getting higher. That is why, to improve assembly fit of tooling and to be emphasized how much moving down caused of deterioration of high speed press, it is also getting more important parts as solution of problems. To analyze how much move based on condition of movement as tooling and high speed press, and to measure how much impact to embossing height caused of changing movement down. As the result of investigation, in case of material thickness 0.5mm, there is highest pull and force power when emboss height is 0.45mm. If emboss height is less than 0.45mm, pull and force power is getting lower, if emboss height is higher than 0.45mm, it is impossible to make it forming caused of changed press movement, also it has been piercing.

중공 박판의 기계적 프레스 결합에 관한 해석 (Numerical Analysis on the Mechanical Press Joining for the Sheet Metal with a Circular Hole)

  • 본 논문은 중공을 가진 판재 두 매를 결합하기 위하여 중공 주위를 따라 기존 레이저 용접법 대신 기계적 프레스 결합법을 적용하는 것에 관한 연구이다. 이를 통해 레이저 용접을 적용했을 때 불가피하게 발생하는 열 변형을 효과적으로 없앨 수 있다. 유한요소해석을 통하여 중공형 판재를 기계적으로 결합시킬 수 있는 금형 설계 방법을 제안하였다. 기계적 결합력을 최대화시키는 데 관련 있는 다섯 가지 설계인자를 선택하여 다꾸치 실험법을 적용한 결과 성형 깊이와 펀치모서리 반경이 가장 크게 영향을 미치는 인자로 나타났다.

SiC-$TB_2$ 복합체의 특성에 미치는 annealing의 영향 (Effect of Annealing on Properties of SiC-$TiB_2$ Composites)

  • The composites were fabricated 61Vo.% ${\beta}$-SiC and 39Vol.% $TiB_2$ powders with the liquid forming additives of 12wt% $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$ as a sintering aid by pressure or pressureless annealing at $1650^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours. The present study investigated the influence of annealed sintering on the microstructure and mechanical of SiC-$TiB_2$ electroconductmive ceramic composites. Reactions between SiC and transition metal $TiB_2$ were not observed in the microstructure and the phase analysis of the SiC-$TiB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites. Phase analysis of SiC-$TiB_2$ composites by XRD revealed mostly of ${\alpha}$-SiC(6H), $TiB_2$, and In Situ YAG($Al_{5}Y_{3}O_{12}$). The relative density, the flexural strength, the Young's modulus showed the highest value of 86.69[%], 136.43[MPa], 52.82[GPa] for pressure annealed SiC-$TiB_2$ ceramic composites.

AZ31 합금 성형에서의 열전달을 고려한 유한요소해석 (Finite element analysis considering heat transfer in sheet metal forming of AZ31)

  • In this work, the influences of tool temperature on the formability of AZ31 sheet material in warm deep drawing processes of square cup were investigated. Deep drawing tests under different tool temperatures for magnesium alloy sheet at elevated temperature $250^{\circ}C$, where AZ31 sheet shows a good formability, and FE analyses were carried out. The successfully formed part without any defects was obtained when temperature of tool was over $100^{\circ}C$ while the fracture was occurred at the corner of the square cup below $100^{\circ}C$. It is shown that lower temperature of tool than that of magnesium sheet causes the temperature drop of the material by heat transfer and thus Interrupts the dynamic recrystallization of it. Therefore, in order to obtain successful part of magnesium alloys, it is necessary that the tool temperature is limited to the same or slightly lower temperature than sheet material.
