On Developing a Semantic Annotation Tool for Managing Metadata of Web Documents based on XMP and Ontology (웹 문서의 메타데이터 관리를 위한 XMP 및 온톨로지 기반의 시맨틱 어노테이션 지원도구 개발)

  • The goal of Semantic Web is to provide efficient and effective semantic search and web services based on the machine-processable semantic information of web resources. Therefore, the process of creating and adding computer-understandable metadata for a variety of web contents, namely, semantic annotation is one of the fundamental technologies for the semantic web. Recently, in order to manage annotation metadata, direct approach for embedding metadata into the document is mainly used in semantic annotation. However, many semantic annotation tools for web documents have been mainly worked with HTML documents, and most of these tools do not support semantic search functionalities using the metadata. In this paper, based on these problems and previous works, we propose the Ontology-based Semantic Annotation tool(OSA) to efficiently support semantic annotation for web documents(such as HTML, PDF). We define a semantic annotation model that represents ontological-semantic information by using RDFS(RDF Schema). Based on XMP(eXtensible Metadata Platform) standard, the model is encoded directly into the document. By using OSA with XMP, user can perform semantic annotation on web documents which are able to keep compatibility for managing annotation metadata. Eventually, the integrated semantic annotation metadata can be used effectively in semantic search for a variety of web contents.

  • Tools are needed to have access to more effective information and to select it in the environment of digital information where information pours in. and some of the advanced techniques to make up these tools are metadata and annotation. Annotation additionally records the marks for the supplementary explanation of and emphasis on a specific part of the original text and kas more various merits than metadata in terms of the search and use of digital resources. This research aims at suggesting methods that annotation. which has a range of functions including access to information. its reuse and sharing in the digital surroundings of late, can be applied to digital contents such as web services, digital libraries and electronic books. As to the research method, the case studies of annotation systems applied to web services and digital libraries have been carried out, and the metadata formation of the systems has been analyzed.

  • This paper proposes an XML based Multimedia Annotation and Retrieval System, which can represent and retrieve video data efficiently using XML. The system provides a graphical user interface for annotating, searching, and browsing multimedia data. It is Implemented based on the hierarchical metadata model to represent multimedia information. The metadata about video is organized based on multimedia description schema using XML Schema that basically conforms to the MPEG-7 standard. Also, for the effective indexing and retrieval of multimedia data, video segments are annotated and categorized using the closed caption.

A Study on User-Generated Metadata (이용자 생성 메타데이터에 관한 연구)

  • As the amount of information through growing Internet has dramatically increased recently, information professions generated metadata has been reached the limits of their role. Based on the value of information depends on the user, user generated metadata is a growing paradigm in the field of information organization today. This paper firstly introduces the concepts of user-generted metadata, and then examines the cases of user annotation and user tagging. Finally we discuss the effects and implications of user-generated metadata on the development of digital libraries.

AnoVid: A Deep Neural Network-based Tool for Video Annotation (AnoVid: 비디오 주석을 위한 심층 신경망 기반의 도구)

  • In this paper, we propose AnoVid, an automated video annotation tool based on deep neural networks, that automatically generates various meta data for each scene or shot in a long drama video containing rich elements. To this end, a novel meta data schema for drama video is designed. Based on this schema, the AnoVid video annotation tool has a total of six deep neural network models for object detection, place recognition, time zone recognition, person recognition, activity detection, and description generation. Using these models, the AnoVid can generate rich video annotation data. In addition, AnoVid provides not only the ability to automatically generate a JSON-type video annotation data file, but also provides various visualization facilities to check the video content analysis results. Through experiments using a real drama video, "Misaeing", we show the practical effectiveness and performance of the proposed video annotation tool, AnoVid.

  • 멀티미디어 데이터에 대한 효율적인 검색을 지원하기 위해 제정된 MPEG7이나 TV-AnyTime 등의 표준들은 XML을 사용하여 Metadata를 효과적으로 표현할 수 방법을 제시하고 있다. 플랫폼에 독립적으로 사용가능하다는 XML의 강점에도 불구하고 Text 방식으로 데이터를 저장하기 때문에 보안에 취약할 수밖에 없으며, 대용량의 자료 처리에도 문제점을 드러낸다. 이를 보완하기 위하여 XML 문서를 RDBMS에 저장하는 방법들이 제안되고 있는데, 기존의 Model Mapping이나 Structure Mapping의 경우 노드 검색을 위해 Traversing을 할 경우 많은 조인이 필요하기 때문에 한정된 메모리와 낮은 처리능력을 갖춘 임베디드 멀티미디어 플랫폼에서는 비효율적일 수밖에 없다. 본 논문에서는 MPEG7 Metadata를 RDBMS에 저장하고, 이를 검색할 때, 조인의 횟수를 최소화할 수 있는 저장 모델을 제안하고 있다. 부모, 자식, 형제간의 노드를 효율적으로 검색할 수 있도록 path MetaSchema를 제안함으로써, 최소 1번의 검색으로 필요한 노드 정보들을 추출할 수 있도록 하였다. 그리고 Annotation 작성시에 XML의 Attribute와 Element로 삽입하였기에, 기존의 방법에서 Annotation을 분석하기 위해 필요했던 Annotation 파싱을 제거하고, SAX나 DOM을 사용할 수 있도록 제안함으로써, Annotation의 정보에 대한 접근이 효율적으로 개선되었다.

Semi-automatic Ontology Modeling for VOD Annotation for IPTV (IPTV의 VOD 어노테이션을 위한 반자동 온톨로지 모델링)

  • In this paper, we propose a semi-automatic modeling approach of ontology to annotate VOD to realize the IPTV's intelligent searching. The ontology is made by combining partial tree that extracts hypernym, hyponym, and synonym of keywords related to a service domain from WordNet. Further, we add to the partial tree new keywords that are undefined in WordNet, such as foreign words and words written in Chinese characters. The ontology consists of two parts: generic hierarchy and specific hierarchy. The former is the semantic model of vocabularies such as keywords and contents of keywords. They are defined as classes including property restrictions in the ontology. The latter is generated using the reasoning technique by inferring contents of keywords based on the generic hierarchy. An annotation generates metadata (i.e., contents and genre) of VOD based on the specific hierarchy. The generic hierarchy can be applied to other domains, and the specific hierarchy helps modeling the ontology to fit the service domain. This approach is proved as good to generate metadata independent of any specific domain. As a result, the proposed method produced around 82% precision with 2,400 VOD annotation test data.

Development of MPEG-7 Description-based Annotation Tool for Production of Semantic Multimedia Metadata (의미적 멀티미디어 메타데이터 생성을 위한 MPEG-7 기술기반 주석도구의 개발)

  • Recently, an increasing in quantity of multimedia data have brought a new problem that expected data should be retrieved fast and exactly. The adequate representation for the multimedia data is the key element for efficient retrieval. For this reason, MPEG-7 standard was established for description of multimedia data. In this paper, we propose a new approach to metadata production. The user can decompose a given content into units and easily annotate each unit by adding basic Information such as time, place, etc. as well as classification information such as event, relationship, etc. according to the MPEG-7 standard. The objective is to build automatically a pure semantic description; the nodes are the events and the links are the graphs which describe the relationships among the events. Finally, we have implemented an annotation tool(SMAT) for semantic description based on proposed technique and assess some of the experiment results. In conclusion, we ran say that the proposod annotation tool is characterized by two important proprieties : reusability and extendibility.

Sharing e-Learning Object Metadata Using ebXML Registries for Semantic Grid Computing

  • To facilitate the processes of e-learning resource description, discovery and reuse, e-learning objects should be appropriately described and classified using standard metadata that need to be published in a registry to reduce duplication of effort and enhance semantic interoperability. This paper describes how standard ebXML registries can be used for semantic grid computing for annotating, storing, discovering and retrieving e-learning object metadata. For semantic annotation of e-learning objects, IEEE Learning Object Metadata (LOM) is adopted as the metadata ontology. In order to support the e-learning metadata ontology in interoperable ebXML registries, a mapping scheme between LOM and ebXML Registry Information Model (RIM) is proposed. The usefulness of sharing e-learning object metadata is demonstrated by prototyping a semantic registry based on the scheme.

  • In this paper, we present the HVIS (Hybrid Video Information System) which bolsters up meaning retrieval of all the various users by integrating feature-based retrieval and annotation-based retrieval of unformatted formed and massive video data. HVIS divides a set of video into video document, sequence, scene and object to model the metadata and suggests the Two layered Hybrid Object-oriented Metadata Model(THOMM) which is composed of raw-data layer for physical video stream, metadata layer to support annotation-based retrieval, content-based retrieval, and similarity retrieval. Grounded on this model, we presents the video query language which make the annotation-based query, content-based query and similar query possible and Video Query Processor to process the query and query processing algorithm. Specially, We present the similarity expression to appear degree of similarity which considers interesting of user. The proposed system is implemented with Visual C++, ActiveX and ORACLE.
