Development of a Meta-Information System for Microbial Resources

  • Microbes are one of the most important bioresources in bioindustry and provide high economic values. Although there are currently about 6,000 bacterial species with validly published names, microbiologists generally assume that the number may account for less than 1% of the bacterial species present on Earth. To discover the remaining species, studies of metagenomes, metabolomes, and proteomes related to microbes have recently been carried out in various fields. We have constructed an information system that integrates various data on microbial resources and manages bioinformation to support efficient research of microorganisms. We have designated this system 'Bio-Meta Information System (Bio-MIS).' Bio-MIS consists of an integrated microbial resource database, a microbial resource input system, an integrated microbial resource search engine, a microbial resource online distribution system, a portal service, and management via the Internet. In the future, this system is expected to be connected with various public databases. We plan to implement useful bioinformatics software for analyzing microbial genome resources. Design of Compound Knowledge Repository for Recommendation System (추천시스템을 위한 복합지식저장소 설계)

  • The article herein suggested a compound repository and a descriptive method to develop a compound knowledge process. A data target saved in a compound knowledge repository suggested in this article includes all compound knowledge meta data and digital resources, which can be divided into the three following factors according to the purpose: user roles, functional elements, and service ranges. The three factors are basic components to describe abstract models of repository. In this article, meta data of compound knowledge are defined by being classified into the two factors. A component stands for the property about a main agent, activity unit or resource that use and create knowledge, and a context presents the context in which knowledge object are included. An agent of the compound knowledge process performs classification, registration, and pattern information management of composite knowledge, and serves as data flow and processing between compound knowledge repository and user. The agent of the compound knowledge process consists of the following functions: warning to inform data search and extraction, data collection and output for data exchange in an distributed environment, storage and registration for data, request and transmission to call for physical material wanted after search of meta data. In this article, the construction of a compound knowledge repository for recommendation system to be developed can serve a role to enhance learning productivity through real-time visualization of timely knowledge by presenting well-put various contents to users in the field of industry to occur work and learning at the same time.

  • In order to apply AI (Artificial Intelligence) in various industries, interest in algorithm selection is increasing. Algorithm selection is largely determined by the experience of a data scientist. However, in the case of an inexperienced data scientist, an algorithm is selected through meta-learning based on dataset characteristics. However, since the selection process is a black box, it was not possible to know on what basis the existing algorithm recommendation was derived. Accordingly, this study uses k-means cluster analysis to classify types according to data set characteristics, and to explore suitable classification algorithms and methods for resolving class imbalance. As a result of this study, four types were derived, and an appropriate class imbalance resolution method and classification algorithm were recommended according to the data set type.

  • Flash memory is widely used in embedded systems because of its benefits such as non-volatile, shock resistant, and low power consumption. However, NAND flash memory suffers from out-place-update, limited erase cycles, and page based read/write operations. To solve these problems, YAFFS and RFFS, the flash memory file systems, are proposed. However YAFFS takes long time to mount the file system, because all the files are scattered all around flash memory. Thus YAFFS needs to fully scan the flash memory. To provide fast mounting, RFFS has been proposed. It stores all the block information, the addresses of block information and meta data to use them at mounting time. However additional operations for the meta data management are decreasing the performance of the system. This paper presents a new NAND flash file system called ERFFS (Efficient and Reliable Flash File System) which provides fast mounting and recovery with minimum mata data management. Based on the experimental results, ERFFS reduces the flash mount/recovery time and the file system overhead.

  • In design of suspension system for KHST, it was applied the approximated optimization method using meta-models which called Response Surface Model and Neural Network Model for 29 design variables and 46 performance index. These models was coded using correlation between design variables and performance indices that is made by the 66 times iterative execution through the design of experimental table consisted orthogonal array L32 and D-Optimal design table. The results show that the optimization process is very efficient and simply applicable for complex mechanical system such as railway vehicle system. Also it was compared with the sensitivity of some design variables in order to know the characteristics of two models. This paper describes the general method for dynamic analysis and design process of railway vehicle system applied to KHST development, and proposed the efficient methods for vibration mode analysis process dealing with test data and the function based approximation method using meta-model applicable for a complex mechanical system. This method will be able to apply to the other railway vehicle system in oder to systematize and generalize the design process of railway vehicle dynamic system.

  • In the EU GDPR, when collecting personal information, the right of the information subject(user) to consent or refuse is given the highest priority. Therefore, the information subject must be able to withdraw consent and be forgotten and claim the right at any time. Especially, restricted IoT devices(Constrained Node) implement the function of consent of the data subject regarding the collection and processing of privacy data, and it is very difficult to post the utilization content of the collected information. In this paper, we designed and implemented a management system that allows data subjects to monitor data collected and processed from IoT devices, recognize information leakage problems, connect, and control devices. Taking into account the common information of the standard OCF(Open Connectivity Foundation) of IoT devices and AllJoyn, a device connection framework, 10 meta-data for information protection were defined, and this was named DPD (Data Protection Descriptor). we developed DPM (Data Protection Manager), a software that allows information subjects to manage information based on DPD.

  • This study is intended for implementing the system environment that can help integrate and retrieve various types of data in real-time by providing semantic interoperability among distributed heterogeneous information systems. The semantic interoperability is made possible by providing a TMDR(Topicmaps Metadata Registry), a set of ontologies. TMDR, which has been made by combining MDR(MetaData Registry) and TopicMaps and storing them in the database, is able to generate distributed query and provide efficient knowledge. MDR is a metadata management technique for distributed data management. TopicMaps is an ontology representation technique that takes into consideration the hierarchy and association for accessing knowledge data. We have created TMDR, a kind of ontology, that is fit for any system and able to detect and resolve semantic conflicts on the level of data and schema. With this system we propose a query-processing technique to integrate and access heterogeneous information sources. Unlike existing retrieval methods this makes possible efficient retrieval and reasoning by providing association focusing on subjects.

Towards a reduced order model of battery systems: Approximation of the cooling plate

  • In order to analyse the thermal performance of battery systems in electric vehicles complex simulation models with high computational cost are necessary. Using reduced order methods, real-time applicable model can be developed and used for on-board monitoring. In this work a data driven model of the cooling plate as part of the battery system is built and derived from a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model. The aim of this paper is to create a meta model of the cooling plate that estimates the temperature at the boundary for different heat flow rates, mass flows and inlet temperatures of the cooling fluid. In order to do so, the cooling plate is simulated in a CFD software (ANSYS Fluent ®). A data driven model is built using the design of experiment (DOE) and various approximation methods in Optimus ®. The model can later be combined with a reduced model of the thermal battery system. The assumption and simplification introduced in this paper enable an accurate representation of the cooling plate with a real-time applicable model.

  • A healthcare system is a type of medical information system that performs early detection and prevention in diseases by checking one's health condition periodically. Such a healthcare system is based on the signal obtained from the body. However, the developed existing system represents certain differences in the storage and description of vital signs according to medicare devices and the evaluation method of the system. It brings some disadvantages, such as lacks in the interoperability between systems, increases in the development cost of systems, and absence of a unified system. Thus, this study develops a healthcare system based on a meta model. For establishing this objective, this study describes and stores vital sign data based on the standard meta model of HL7 and applies OCL, which is a mathematical specification language, for defining wellness indexes and extracting data in order to evaluate health risk appraisals in health. In addition, this study implements components based on OSGi and assemble them in order to easily extend various devices and systems. By describing vital data based on the meta model, it represents some advantages that it makes possible to ensure the interoperability between systems and introduce the standardization of the evaluation method of health conditions through defining the wellness index using OCL. Also, it provides dear specifications.

  • In this paper, we present the system that user can search and manage data using united interface and user can define search field dynamically. The feature of this system is that it is possible to manage multiple polymorphic meta information first. Second, there is a database integration bus that can support easy integration between the various systems. Third, it is possible to set the search item for each user which can customize polymorphism data for each user. The system studied in this paper is expected to be capable of managing big data, which is currently well received in the field of ICT. In addition, it will be possible to effectively manage multi-species polymorphic data in various fields in the future and to easily integrate between systems having various environments.
