간호대학생의 DISC 행동유형에 따른 임상실습스트레스와 정신건강 (Stress of Clinical Practice and Mental Health According to DISC Behavioral Styles in Nursing University Students)

  • Background: Many nursing university students were stressed during clinical practice. The purpose of this study was to identify the difference between stress of clinical practice and mental health according to behavioral styles in nursing university students. Methods: The participants of this study were 233 junior and senior nursing students who had experienced clinical practice. Data were collected by self-report questionnaires in online from November 2017 to March 2018. Collected data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 25.0 using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: The most frequent DISC behavior style of the subjects was conscientiousness (43.8%), follewed by steadiness (19.7%), influence (18.9%), and dominance (17.6%). The participants'scores for stress of clinical practice and mental health were $3.35{\pm}0.55$ and $1.13{\pm}0.65$. The stress of clinical practice of the subjects was different according to DISC behavior styles(F=2.86, p=.038). The results show that the higher the score of stress of clinical practice was the higher the score of mental health(r=.51, p<.001). Conclusion: This study found that the difference of DISC behavioral styles can be attributed to stress of clinical practice. Therefore, nursing intervention program considering with the subjects'DISC behavior styles needs to be developed to reduce their stress of clinical practice.

정신간호학 실습이 간호대학생의 정신 장애인에 대한 태도, 사회적 거리감, 정신간호사 이미지에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Mental health clinical practice on the attitude toward the mental illness, social distance, psychiatry nurses' image of Nursing Students)

  • 본 연구는 정신간호학 실습이 간호대학생의 정신 장애인에 대한 태도, 사회적 거리감, 정신간호사 이미지에 미치는 영향을 파악하고자 실시하였다. 이 연구를 위해 G시의 간호학과에 재학중인 간호대학생 162명을 대상으로 정신간호학 실습 전 후 설문지를 통해 자료를 수집하였으며 자료수집기간은 2017년 2월부터 6월까지였다. 정신간호학 실습 전 후 간호대학생의 사회적 거리감(t=-4.29, p<.001), 정신간호사 이미지(t=-5.89, p<.001)는 유의미한 차이가 있었고 정신 장애인에 대한 태도는 유의미한 차이가 없었다(t=-1.02, p=.305). 정신장애인에 대한 태도는 사회적 거리감과 정적 상관관계가 있었지만(r=.316, p<.001), 정신간호사 이미지와의 상관관계가 없는 것으로 나타났으며(r=.043, p=.589), 사회적 거리감은 정신장애인에 대한 태도(r=.316, p<.001), 정신간호사에 대한 이미지와 모두 정적 상관관계가 있는 것으로(r=.378, p<.001) 나타났다. 본 연구결과를 토대로 효과적이며 교육적인 간호대학생의 정신간호학 교육과 실습지도 프로그램 개발에 활용할 수 있을 것이다.

연속반응시간과제를 이용한 교차훈련의 효과 (The Effect of Cross Education using Serial Reaction Time)

  • Purpose: We investigated the effects of physical practice, mental practice, and cross education using serial reaction time (SRT). We recruited 21 right-handed healthy males and females who gave consent and had no clinical history for their upper limbs. Methods: The subjects were divided into three groups; actual practice (n=7), mental practice (n=7), and controls (n=7), who performed actual training, mental training, or no intervention respectively for three weeks. Super lab 4.0 displayed four symbols on the monitor and subjects pushed on the matching button, with reaction time assessed pre- and post-intervention. Results: Reaction time was significantly lower after actual or mental practice (p<0.05). Actual practice also decreased left hand reaction time. Conclusion: Actual practice and mental practice can improve motor learning, but mental practice is not sufficient for cross education.

  • Objectives : The approach to Hwabyung from all angles is needed to develop the clinical practice guideline. To achieve this approach, various tools should be used practically and systematically. Methods : We gather the tools based on multi aspects of Hwabyung's characteristics. The tools will be used to each steps of clinical practice guideline development. Results : For the clinical practice guideline, there should be applied many kinds of tools, such as for decision and assesment, survey with oriental medicine property, collecting individual stress information, mental and psychological trait, and related or following disease. Conclusions : Application of many objective tools provides the evidence-based medical approaches for development of clinical practice guideline for Hwabyung.

치위생과 학생들의 임상실습관련 불안과 피로 조사 (Anxiety and fatigue related to dental practices of dental hygiene students)

  • Objectives : The aim of the study is to investigate anxiety, fatigue and stress of dental hygiene students in clinical practice and to improve the psychological support program. Methods : A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 428 dental hygiene students in 4 universities in Gwagju and Jeonnam. Data were analyzed for anxiety, stress and fatigue, general characteristics using SPSS 18.0 program for descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and correlation. Results : Saliva suction showed the most high score in treatment($mean{\pm}SD=2.92{\pm}1.13$) and was followed by children dental care($2.79{\pm}1.21$), preventive dental care($2.38{\pm}1.04$), maxillofacial radiology($2.35{\pm}1.15$). During the clinical practice, students felt uneasy when they stayed in relative home(p<0.05). Poor interpersonal relation(p<0.001), poor health condition(p<0.01), low satisfaction with major(p<0.01), the other cause of major choice(p<0.01) influenced on their stress. Satisfaction with major was closely related to clinical practice performance, anxiety, physical fatigue and mental fatigue. Conclusions : In order to reduce physical, mental, neuro sensory fatigue of students in clinical practice, it is recommended to reinforce the patient care etiquettes in curricula.

Effects of a Psychiatric Nursing Clinical Practice Program Using Situation-Oriented Case-Based Learning: A Qualitative Study

  • Psychiatric nursing is a specialty where nursing students experience many difficulties in applying what they have learned in theory to clinical practice. Therefore, a situation-oriented case-based strategy is required to help them overcome the limitations of psychiatric nursing clinical practice and reduce their burden. This study aimed to measure the effectiveness of a psychiatric nursing clinical practice program using situation-oriented case-based learning. Participants comprised 63 nursing students in psychiatric nursing classes. The students were asked to create a scenario of interaction between a nurse and patient based on a case study. Empathy, therapeutic communication ability, and attitudes toward mental illnesses were measured. We analyzed the effectiveness of the program by comparing changes in the nursing students' empathy, therapeutic communication ability, and attitude toward mental illness after the program. The participants showed significant increases in empathy and therapeutic communication abilities. However, there were no significant changes in attitudes toward mental illnesses. Based on the results of this study, it is expected that situation-based learning will be effective for students who have difficulties in certain aspects, such as COVID-19, or where there are limited clinical practice opportunities, such as psychiatric nursing.

  • Objectives : Hwabyung is one of well-known mental health problems like depression in Korea and it's concept is generated from oriental medicine. We suggest that clinical practice guideline should reflect the Hwabyung's characteristics, clinical environment and Oriental medical doctor's need. Methods : We use the general development method of clinical practice guideline and also apply the oriental medicine's properties. Results : We need to refer to the western psychiatric field, especially the clinical guideline of depression. And we should base on the clinical survey and trial with the selected core subject considering oriental medicine's character. Conclusions : From this development, we expect the application of proper clinical decision by medical team, the objectification of oriental medicine, and the improvement of medical quality in the clinical field of oriental medicine.

A Study on the Effects of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practicum Using Storytelling

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the empathy, communication efficacy, and communication skills of nursing students through a psychiatric nursing practice program using storytelling by allowing the students to immerse in the narratives and identify themselves with the main characters with mental illness. This study is a single group pretest-posttest design that applied psychological nursing practice using storytelling to 46 nursing students from a local university in Korea and evaluated its effectiveness. Data analysis was performed by a paired t-test to compare the effects of the participants' empathy, communication self-efficacy, and therapeutic communication ability using SPSS 21.0 program. The results showed that psychiatric nursing practice using storytelling had an effect on the empathy (t=3.565, p=.001) and communication self-efficacy (t=2.320, p=.025) of nursing students. Based on these results, psychiatric and mental health clinical practice curriculums should be developed to improve nursing students' understanding of mental disorders and develop their communication ability with patients.

임상실습 스트레스와 실습 만족도의 관계에 미치는 적극적 스트레스 대처의 매개효과 (Mediation Effect of a Positive Stress Coping Strategy in the Relationship between Clinical Practice Stress and Clinical Practice Satisfaction)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to identify the mediation effect of a positive stress coping strategy between clinical practice stress and clinical practice satisfaction in nursing students. Methods : In this study, data was collected from 248 nursing students at K University in South Korea from October of 2015 to November of 2015. The collected data was analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 Statistics Program. Results : Clinical practice stress and a positive stress coping strategy were significant predictors of clinical practice satisfaction (${\beta}$=.442, p<.001). The explanatory power of the measure of clinical practice satisfaction was increased to 29.3% (p<.001) with solely clinical practice stress, and it reached 44.2% (p<.001) when a positive stress coping strategy was reflected. The results of this study confirmed that a positive stress coping strategy has a mediation effect on clinical practice stress and clinical practice satisfaction levels. Conclusions : It is necessary to develop a program to take advantage of positive stress coping skills so that nursing college students can smoothly overcome stress during their clinical training and thus improve their clinical practice experience.

Mental Health of Physical Therapy Students in Clinical Practice during the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Cross-sectional Survey in Gwangju and Jeollanam-do, South Korea

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the mental health of physical therapy students in clinical practice during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted during the pandemic and was completed by 100 physical therapy students in two universities in Gwangju and Jeollanam-do, South Korea. The Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) scale and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) were used to evaluate their anxiety and depression status. A Chi-square test was conducted to evaluate the association of participant characteristics with the risk of having anxiety and depression. Logistic regression models were used to identify the general characteristic factors related to anxiety or depression. Results: Anxiety was found in 28 (28%) of the participants, and depression in 24 (24%). The risk of anxiety and depression in male physical therapy students was 0.189 and 0.211 times lower, respectively, than those female students (p<0.05). The risk of anxiety and depression in physical therapy students with a history of disease was 11.721 and 7.056 times higher, respectively, than those with a history of disease (p<0.05). The risk of anxiety in physical therapy students in clinical practice was 11.721 times higher than that in students who were not in clinical practice (p<0.05). Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a high risk of anxiety and depression among many physical therapy students. More attention and improvements are needed so that physical therapy students can study in a safe environment.
